I'm happy for her, but it does look a bit strange to me to have a mid-high masters player on the main team while there are GM players on the academy team. This is pretttttty much my take on it aswell. Congrats to her, but yeah.... True, but Spyte's exposure and placement in tournaments aren't at the level of the Academy team. It's not in Premier Tournaments or whatever but she's really good relatively (ie. for a girl). And as blunt as that truth might be, it's still the reality of the situation I'm not saying she doesn't deserve it, although it may sound like that in my post. Shes certainly a hard worker with a consistent stream. I can see that they recruited her because of her high exposure as a top streamer and because shes female, but skill wise you cant deny theres a significant discrepancy between her and players like sage, minigun, illusion etc. to the point where it does look a bit weird when you see her on the same roster as those kind of players. Her staying at the ROOT house is a great thing for her, but from the perspective of the other residents, who are (almost) all korean GM level, they cant really practice with her because of the difference in skill level. Like it or not, but this too, is the reality of the situation. everyone knows this already. everyone realizes that women who compete at a master+ level in SC get special recognition. there is no one, anywhere, in any universe, arguing that ms spyte is as good as sage, illusion or minigun. no one has ever said that or believed it or even suspected it there is a good reason women get more hype in this community: because women succeeding at SC is fun and interesting to watch, and the more it happens, the more women will potentially WANT to become involved in SC, which increases the playerbase and makes it more diverse and welcoming, as well as being a good sign for gender politics in general hope this helps Yeah, I'm aware I was kind of stating the obvious. But is this really how we want it? With that kind of thinking we, by which i mean foreign teams, can wave goodbye to any kind of hope to ever catch up or even compete with Koreans in the future. Sure there should be a place for dedicated personalities in sc2, male and female, but it doesnt have to be the main roster of one the top foreign teams. How do Koreans get so good? Dedication. What does Ms.Spyte have? Dedication. A major part of Korean success in Sc2 is the environment they play in; Ms.Spyte's now in a much better environment as well. Everybody has to be in masters before they're GM. I don't have a problem with ROOT's decision; it might even be a good thing to recruit other players in high masters who seem dedicated and then see what they can accomplish. What the NA scene (maybe even EU too) needs right now is openness and a little bit of passion, not cut-throat win-at-all-costs attitudes. This doesn't seem like it's a problem : o Talent is a pretty big factor as well. It isn't shocking the top BW players from KeSPA transitioned over and became some of the top SC2 players in a matter of months. Possibly even weeks. I don't think they plateaued at middle Masters very long.
well but they had a shit ton of RTS expierience. Look at all the world class players. They all have played another RTS title on world class level before SC2. I think there are only a handful of people that started to play competitively with SC2.

LOL seems like it. She's a pretty decent personality but I think most of that is also her being female.

No matter how "cool", the personality etc, a male that's mid/top'ish master that's still far from GM skill wise will never get as many viewers, and definitely not a big team attention. Happy for Spite, she seems to be a cool girl, but this is mostly a business decision by ROOT, not an addition meant to make the team more competitive.
At least Spyte is good at what she does - for a female anyway - and isn't some kind of attention whore playing in platinum league with a huge cleavage and winking for donations.

Congratz Saw her stream yesterday a bit, since she does not play as fast as the Pros (yet) it makes it easier for me to learn a bit. After watching her stream I had my first real victory in a 1vs1 hahaha

Did you watch "Ladies of the Swarm" tournament ??
At least a bit..
Pretty sure she would've gotten top3 in that tourney there.. Providing the fact that Scarlett didn't participate
But yah - there's a future in this buddy.. There can be cool Ladies tournaments, just like that.. And the best part is that the Korean girls aren't as dominating the scene as the Males are ATM, - so at least it's a change
And she's awesome enough - successful, or not so much, either way.. What I wanted to say is the following - from this move, or the similar kind - can only be a positive change

I had never heard about her but nonetheless, it s good for both parties. Good for the player to have such a great environment to improve and good to ROOT business wise. Gratz!

this is awesome, always liked her stream. gratz Spyte!

Ah, this is nice! Been watching her stream from time to time. She's really enjoyable as she interacts a lot with her viewers.
Best of Luck!

Happy for her, she's cool. And funny to think about Coryn in the sausage fest ROOT house with all those hot Latinos.
