Sometimes the community forgets that girls are dope and more girls in the community makes everything better. It's not about girls lol It's hard to not debate/get worked up when something happens that shows that foreign Starcraft is still quite a long ways from becoming something more legitimate. The day when popularity is not more lucrative than skill is a day I look forward to, and a day I really hope comes. Gender is meaningless to me. All I see in this thread is a bunch of "I don't think she should have gotten the slot and only get it because she is a lady," masked behind arguments of how evolved the scene is in NA. This discuss would not exist she was a male player of the same skill. Everyone would just say that it's awesome Root is investing in rising talent. And it's does change the fact the female players are dope and the cut off for them being accepted into the scene should be "smash at least 4 code S Korean players to over come the questions caused by your gender" A male player of the same skill wouldn't get picked up by a professional team unless they had the stream numbers spyte does. I hate to burst your bubble but spyte isn't "rising talent"; she's a mid masters player, and got picked up because of stream numbers to show sponsors. I really don't understand why there is this big of a discussion already. A female gamer got picked up by a professional team because of stream numbers, not because she's an up and coming GM player or something. OBVIOUSLY there is nothing wrong with this, it's good for both parties and the scene.

But I don't really see how my inability to play has anything to do with her potential skill.

All that hate can make your life 10 years shorter and for what, couple of gaming fame moments? I never understand this argument, do you naively think that male games doesn't get a lot of death threats and hate too?

I don't see why the competitive scene 'needs' girls in it, if they get there they get there which would be cool

Actually its no surprise, 90% of foreign players are basically there for the marketing. I am still impressed that the whole system works and korean players havent taken all the foreign teams over yet. If Lady Spyte brings new people and viewers into the sc2 scene/ her team, its good for everybody :D.

It's not like Xenocider was ripping up the NA ladder and crushing faces before RG signed him. I'm sure Xenocider was doing well in GM before then. For a team to pick up a mid-master player, popularity aside, they would have to be around 10 years old to really intrigue any one enough. Just look at SEED, though; I believe they had Intense: a young NA Terran player who is not only GM on NA but was GM on Korea. The guy has high apm and all the attributes you'd look for, yet not enough to get on the main team. If he was a girl, GM on NA, alone, obviously would have been enough, though.
