I think they should up the ante and make it so all casters/hosts, etc salary for the event goes into a winner takes all pot with the winner chosen by a reddit vote!

No, but as an spectator I feel that all games of this tournament besides the finals will be less meaningful than if a player increased their prize for every match they won.

For the players, maybe. But for the fans I don't think it's bad. I think it makes it a lot more tense and exciting to watch.

And the more peole watch esports the better it is for the players.. Even if that money was distributed among the top 3, you still have 13 guys going home with nothing. I think more viewers, sponsors etc. will benefit the scene better than prize money for the players since most get none anyway.

You're making all kinds of assumptions without properly valuing each part of what you say. An increase of viewers doesn't simply outweigh everything with no further questions asked. For example, for the players, an increase of 5% in viewers isn't worth such a ridiculous structure at all. However if viewers increase by 1000% then yes maybe it is good for the players. When it comes to players there is just no way this is good.

But I mean, aside from the top LETS SAY 5 players... if this money was distributed like other tournaments. You still have almost 11 guys going home empty handed anyway. Maybe they get $500. But is that going to pay the bills?

I think the problem is just there's not enough money to put into it. E-sports isn't really viable until guys who never win tournaments can make a decent living. how the top 1-5 players split their money won't really affect the rest of the scene IMO.

Why are you assuming so many things? At IEM everybody always got money, at least 600$ for the last place at normal IEMs and 1.4k at the WC. Winner got 30k, it was the best distribution in the scene, IEM always was the most fair and rational tournament when it came to prize money. It doesn't make sense.

Maru and Serral are probably top 5.

Why would you do this ( I think the price distribution is the most important thing at tournaments..

This is really, really stupid. Thanks for giving all the other competitors in this thing no reward for their efforts whatsoever...

Honestly, what the fuck? This seems like more of the thing where a lot of talent would STAY AWAY just because there's no fucking point if they're just going to lose to a Korean...

Really, you believe any foreigner just says well I am going to lose a Korean, I might as well not go… If you are going to lose to a korean mentality and there are 10 koreans you are not going to participate anyways because you will be knocked out first round before any money anyways… They all are INVITED to this tournament after getting other prize money earlier in the year… THIS is like a BONUS tournament… with a BONUS prize of 100,000 so… All these players already got paid for their efforts.

If I am a professional player - who in most cases - evaluates tourneys based on prize payout and competition...why the HELL would I spend my precious time flying out to a tournament where only one person - 99% a top level Korean - is going to take ALL 100k?

I'm sorry, but a tourney isn't made by its prize-pool, and this does nothing to foster talent whatsoever. It's just a payout to a player who has very likely done very well this year and is rounding up another bundle of cash.

Tourneys are forgetting...cash does not a memorable tourney make.

This reminds me of Soso talking about how Thresh won all this many playing Doom/Quake whatever, but how can you keep trying to support yourself like that when if you make it to the final and lose then you can only afford to live in your parents' basement.

The funny thing is that I feel this is going in the opposite direction. The pay needs to be more for most of the field at these events and at times less for the winners. Of course there has been a shift in that direction since the earliest GOM tournaments.

then those players have every right to .... NOT GO. Wholly fuck your all acting like this is the standard here. It's a one off thing that they're trying. In reality are any of you not going to watch it? Probably not, so why the fuck does it matter. Every time anyone tries to do something slightly different in the community people bring out the pitch forks without even thinking about what the fuck they're saying. Just let them do what they're going to do and if it sucks. Fair enough ... bitch. But not giving them the chance before even giving it a go ..... grow up guys.

Personally I like it. If it was anything like last year, all the players will be invited based on their performance throughout this season's IEM, so they've already earned a fair bit of money, so this championship is just the finale. They'll all have their travel expense covered, so I don't see how this is "unfair." It's like the more extensive version of Naniwa vs Revival tiebreaker.

For the casual viewer this is great,it's gonna make the tournament more exciting but it's bad for the players.

Personally i'm fine with this.I saw some pros comment on twitter but let's be real foreigner players, you wouldn't win any significant amount of money anyways,so get fucked! Winner takes all!
