and the winner is probably a cheeser who knows that he doesnt have a chance in macro games

What motivation if you know your going to get second or third? Who goes into a tournament thinking I am only going to get second or third? This encourages players to perform at their highest level for a great grand prize, 100,000 can make a players year or even TWO years. If a cheeser ends up winning that is the fault of the other players… Again this is only for the finals of the whole year… How is it fair if the top 4 get money and the other 12 get nothing? They came to compete also!! The money is not for everyone, it is for the BEST.

I dont like it. If you get out of groups. If you get out onto top 4. And you lose. Well Congrats go home with nothign. That's bad.

Pretty much, but he'll probably become a pariah amongst pros if he pulled something like that.
IEM will probably have to pray that naniwa wins as he'll probably be the only one that won't try that.

This is really, really stupid. Thanks for giving all the other competitors in this thing no reward for their efforts whatsoever...

Honestly, what the fuck? This seems like more of the thing where a lot of talent would STAY AWAY just because there's no fucking point if they're just going to lose to a Korean...

Seriously... -_-. Why so top-heavy wtf...A tournament is not made by its prize-pool, guys.

Didnt get the pesimism then i saw qualified players so far. Why dont you just make a raffle between protoss players qualified for this tournament. Would save a lot of trouble.

Sometime you have to go all out, using this system all the time would be bad i agree with you people but once in a while its really awesome !

You can draft a contract beforehand and the winner can do whatever he wants with the money, they can go public, it's 100% legal to give half of the money to anybody afterwards. Just happens to be the runner-up.
Maru and Serral are probably top 5.

For the players, maybe. But for the fans I don't think it's bad. I think it makes it a lot more tense and exciting to watch.

And the more peole watch esports the better it is for the players.. Even if that money was distributed among the top 3, you still have 13 guys going home with nothing. I think more viewers, sponsors etc. will benefit the scene better than prize money for the players since most get none anyway.

You're making all kinds of assumptions without properly valuing each part of what you say. An increase of viewers doesn't simply outweigh everything with no further questions asked. For example, for the players, an increase of 5% in viewers isn't worth such a ridiculous structure at all. However if viewers increase by 1000% then yes maybe it is good for the players. When it comes to players there is just no way this is good.

But I mean, aside from the top LETS SAY 5 players... if this money was distributed like other tournaments. You still have almost 11 guys going home empty handed anyway. Maybe they get $500. But is that going to pay the bills?

I think the problem is just there's not enough money to put into it. E-sports isn't really viable until guys who never win tournaments can make a decent living. how the top 1-5 players split their money won't really affect the rest of the scene IMO.

So let me get this straight, most of you are telling me you would turn down the chance at an free trip to a tournament at a chance of winning 100k just because there's only 1 payout?

Naniwa gave part of his showmatch winnings to Scarlett, so there's no one who "won't try that".

The weird idea that people work harder if you up the money on the table. I thought we'd be over this for a decade now?

Really, you believe any foreigner just says well I am going to lose a Korean, I might as well not go… If you are going to lose to a korean mentality and there are 10 koreans you are not going to participate anyways because you will be knocked out first round before any money anyways… They all are INVITED to this tournament after getting other prize money earlier in the year… THIS is like a BONUS tournament… with a BONUS prize of 100,000 so… All these players already got paid for their efforts.

The good things: it's... original?
Also, huge prizemoney.

Bad things: it's unfair to everyone but the winner.
I can't imagine a single player who wouldn't split it with the other finalist, thus making the whole sistem not only pointless but unfair for 3rd/4th players.
