They're popular, and no matter how much better the Korean trio is, they aren't. Popularity sells, and EG needs to make money. I guess I'll never understand business :/ How does popularity help a business earn money? Wouldn't advertising through good players earn more revenue?

Depends, do those players provide RIO and make you money? Sponsors fund the team, not wins and all of the companies that fund EG are US or EU companies. Results cannot be turned directly into bitcoins. Also, shoutcraft was a "real" event, even if it wasn't stacked with Koreans. People watched and sponsors like that.

People who like results not just personality buy sponsor products too - or rather can start avoiding EG's sponsors after moves they really dont like.

Sucks, but thats how it works. They signed 1 year contracts and have finished them. As for keeping machine instead of these guys, thats obviously not the case. They kept machine inspite of dropping these guys, he doesn't cost probably half as much as one korean. I highly doubt that there was a dicussion that went "We can only afford to keep 1 of these 4 players, lets keep machine" at any time, in any room, in any reality, anywhere in the multi-verse. The simple fact is that they didn't need the koreans anymore and so they cut them to free up money to do other things. Sacking Machine would probably mean they can afford a new toaster for the EG lair.

And I am sure that was factored into the decision as well. But Alex Garfield runs the most successful Esports team out there right now, so I am sure he knows what he is doing.

Unfortunate fact of the business is that good results are a drop in the bucket compared to personality. Just look at the stream numbers.
