SAN FRANCISCO, California - December 12th, 2013. - Evil Geniuses, the world’s premier professional gaming team, today announces the release of three Korean StarCraft II players, Kim “Revival” Dong Hyun, Kim “Oz” Hak Soo, and Han “aLive” Lee Seok from their roster.

Revival joined Evil Geniuses in December 2012 to fill out the roster for Evil Geniuses and Team Liquid’s partnership for the first StarCraft II SK Planet Proleague Season I. In the early rounds of Proleague, Revival quickly proved himself a valuable asset to the team, scoring critical victories in matches versus Woongjin Stars and CJ Entus. When Oz and aLive joined Evil Geniuses midseason, they were considered by many to be past their prime. Their critics, however, were silenced as Oz and aLive became two of EG-TL’s most reliable players, helping the team take much-needed wins over SK Telecom T1 and Team 8.

Outside of Korea, Revival, aLive, and Oz have become mainstays of a number of foreign tournaments, most notably in WCS America, where the trio boast a combined five top eight finishes in WCS North America Premier League, as well as five total appearances at the WCS Season Finals. As a member of Evil Geniuses, Revival also earned his first premier tournament victory at IEM Season VIII Shanghai, where he defeated Oz in the grand finals.

Alex Garfield
Letting Oz, aLive, and Revival go was a very difficult decision for our organization, because we felt they were all playing well and doing a great job of representing our team. Ultimately, this decision came down to the fact that our initial recruitment of these players was specifically tied to our participation in Proleague. Given that we will not be part of the 2013-2014 season, it didn’t make sense for us to keep so many players on our Korean roster.

Effective immediately, Revival, Oz, and aLive will no longer be contracted with Evil Geniuses. This decision was not made lightly, and Evil Geniuses would personally like to thank Dong Hyun, Hak Soo, and Lee Seok for their hard work and dedication over the last year. Both in and out of competition, each contributed meaningfully to the organization and without their commitment to performing at the very highest level, Evil Geniuses would not be the organization it is today. Evil Geniuses wishes each of them the best of luck in whatever endeavors they choose to pursue in the coming months.

It's understandable, but sad nonetheless. Best of luck to all of them. They are talented guys, so I'm sure they'll land on their feet.

I'm legitimately surprised to see them release alive, even if he was a proleague thing he was performing really well in most tournaments he went to. Oh well it'll be fun to see was US team grabs them for WCS AM (At last one going to complexity)

Maybe aLive will retire now. He was about to right before EG picked him up.
Refer to my post.

I feel like I watched these guys play all the way back when SC2 was released. It feels like EG is just dumping the old timers. I get why they had to, but it still sucks =\

When IdrA left, he said he had support from EG for a transition period. It's better to give a soft landing than to allow people linger beyond their usefulness to the organization.

I do hope Alive won't retire. He's a great player. And Oz and Revival put on a good show consistently.

Really sucks, now the only EG players in tournaments are JD and sometimes JYP. All three of these guys did great in WCS AM and would have continued to do so I feel.

As for Machine, I don't get it either, but Demuslim and Incontrol are probably worth a lot more to EG than aLive/Revival/Oz would ever be. They're popular, and no matter how much better the Korean trio is, they aren't. Popularity sells, and EG needs to make money.

That's a real shame. EG were a huge force with these three. Hope they can pick some similar replacements up.

granted all of this was expected but it still seems really harsh to contract players JUST to fill up spots on a Proleague team then dump them as soon as they arent needed

All EG really needs is Jaedong to be honest.

Ah this sucks, mainly because I don't want aLive to have any reason to retire. I hope they get picked up by a Proleague team. If they do these three will forever be proleague support.

Hey, expected. As I said in the other thread, EG doesn't need anyone else beside Jaedong + popular foreigners + Incontrol for their sc2 division.
