Yes, the Scelight Operator is located at Google, so if your country blocks Google, you have to use a proxy. Proxy can be configured in the Settings dialog, Network page.

Currently only the English language is supported. In Sc2gears I invested a lot of effort making it multilingual and it just wasn't worth it.

I think I'll stick to sc2gears until it eventually break itself since having to start up a VPN every time isn't a great user experience.

VPN and Proxy are 2 different things. I don't know about the situation in China, but I guess you can reach public Proxy servers. If so, configuring the proxy in Scelight is sufficient.

Is there a search function for finding the replay(s) you want to analyze? I can't seem to find it anywhere. I'd like to be able to do the same thing that Sc2gears did for finding a batch of replays with specific players, maps, etc.

A Google based proxy obviously won't work because it is hosted at Google (and you can't reach Google servers). Try a non-google public proxy.

There is no "separate" search function yet. If you want to search, list the replays and use the table filters of the replay list table.

It's another story since it's a python-based google-appengine stuff, and I'm pretty sure I can reach the proxy server since I use that to access youtube and twitter on a daily basis.

The APM count seems to be different from Sc2gears for the same replay and same player, for example:

Sc2gears
Actions: 6132 APM: 253

Scelight
Actions: 6301 APM: 261

EDIT:
Congratulations on your new release and it's amazing how you're being very responsive to the feedback in this thread! Keep it up!

There's something we're missing here. The Scelight Operator is also implemented on Google App Engine. You should be able to reach either both or none.

Scelight's replay parser engine is superior to Sc2gear's parser engine.
Scelight's results should be accepted if there are differences.

Also, in Scelight I slightly changed the APM calculation algorithm. To make it more precise and representative, it does not just exclude the first 110 in-game seconds, it also excludes the time after the last command action of the player (in Sc2gears, APM was calculated till the last action - be it whatever action).
If you think about it: Scelight's method is better, for example if a player dies, he/she might stick around to watch the game, but obviously his/her actions onwards are not relevant. Also, when game is over, you might wanna take a few seconds to chat, say "gg" etc, which time is not to be included in per-minute calculations (like APM, SPM).

Yeah it is a bit odd, I checked the console of my proxy application seems it can't reach the appspot server which is definitely weird.

Did you manage to get around the army value bug, where Protoss' army value is massively too high due to Archons messing up the tracker output?
I will reduce you to a series of numbers.
