Is there any recent number regarding their paying customerbase? I too cant really grasp why one would pay too watch SC2 tournaments, unless starcraft is like the only thing on your mind. Even if I did pay, I simply wont have time to watch it all, especially with how much WCS stuff and all the other free tournaments going on.

This is definately a move to cut down costs. So GOM was not doing that well during this year it seems.

Wait, I'm slightly confused, is Gretech completely revamping their GOMTV brand or is the GOMTV e-Sports division separating from the GOMTV group itself into GOMeXP?

I really really hope Twitch fixes their EU problems until next year; GSL is my favorite tournament by a landslide, but I'm not going to pay for HD when Twitch isn't able to deliver it.
Edit: And I wonder what they'll do with VODs, because their webseite was the best. Now that I think of it, there's really no way it doesn't get worse with this.

Ah well, guess there is a reason I haven't watched any GOM at all in atleast a year. How can they compete with foreign tournaments, which have better (atleast on pair) casting, hosting and now also stacked with top koreans (which are for free)? Also in EU, GOM's live streaming is when we european work lol. Is it not possible for them to get sponsors like foreign tournaments ? How can you even say that? There's a reason why you don't know, and it's because you don't watch the content.

I really liked the gom player, as well as the gom website layout. Twitch has been better for me recently regarding lag, but it's still way worse in every aspect.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
Is it really so expensive to run your own streaming service? So now everything will be available only on the unbelievably unreliable Twitch? Everyone is blabbering about how this or that nonsense is killing esports, while the biggest problem of the whole thing is still that you can't reliably watch it if you happen to live in a wrong country.
|
How the hell do Twitch land all of these major tournaments? Their service it's absolutely terrible in Europe. They should have kept GOM.tv at least as an option.
|
as yes twitch, the only streaming service where you are almost guaranteed NOT to be able to watch any big match live, or watch a slideshow of it.

CDN and all those bandwidth burn money like fire through butter.

Costs for developing and maintaing their platform, servers for vods/streaming + bandwidth vs. no costs, cause u host it on platforms where u get the service for free??? Quite a nobrainer i would say

I think it's just rebranding. If Gretech was droping ESPORTS it would be a much bigger news.

OMG. Twitch TV lag like hell for me especially for big matches. Why GOM, why???

Twitch.tv vod system is terrible while the GOM one was amazing. This change really sucks unless they take steps with twitch to improve their VOD experience.
Spoilers and no auto-play, please no...

Prize money is provided by blizzard, right? So will all the income from subs benefit the players in any way or whats the deal. With the prizepool being so top heavy next GSL I would like it if they increased the money you got further down the ladder. Then I would definitely buy a sub (probably will anyway) but would like to know a bit more.

I really don't like how everyone switches to twitch. Their reliability has steadily been going down instead of up and because they're the only streaming service left, they don't give a shit.

So content has changed and improved by a huge margin since a year ago? Is Wolf/Khaldor still casting, as well as Tasteless/artosis? What does GOM have now and does better then foreign tournaments? I am asking you since you probably know. Dont get me wrong, I am grateful that they provide salary for the korean scene which is important, I'm just a bit curious how they make people pay for it considering the awesome tournaments that have been with both WCS, DH, Taketv, and probaly more then I can even have time for to watch now.
Also, this payment is for foreigners only right? It's still free in korea, the vods and high qualty?

Best production, always offline, toughest competition in the world, great casters. Its the best of the best really. No idea if koreans dont have to pay. Not even at a cheaper prize? hmm
