Noo!! I always liked more the streaming on the GOM Player, I hope Twitch doesn't lag as hell like usually was doing for me on some tournaments -_-

realistically speaking it should not lag at all.gom has sc2 matches at around 9am-11am european time when no major tournaments or streamers are on.twitch does not lag that much during early morning and lunch.lag occurs mostly during the evening when there are a lot of streamers and tournaments on

Twitch's VOD system is a disaster and I promised myself I'd never pay for any service on twitch again. This just blows.

This is sad news, the GOMTV stream and VOD system was excellent.
On the bright side, this will save me $100 next year.

I like this decision.
Having to watch a stream with a player felt archaic to me.

Costs for developing and maintaing their platform, servers for vods/streaming + bandwidth vs. no costs, cause u host it on platforms where u get the service for free???
Quite a nobrainer i would say

Well, this doesn't make any sense either. Twitch is not a charity, so they need to pay for the very same costs somehow, how do they do it? If it is from ads or a cut from the subsriction, why can't GOM do the same?

twitch is massive and operates on european and na markets where there are a lot of sponsors.gom is a korean company and relies on korean sponsors who couldnt care less about the 1k viewers on the gom player.it is much easier for them to pass the foreign viewers onto twitch.the most likely response is that they were not getting enough money from the gom player thingy and mobile apps to keep them running.

I'm surprise that the price are still so high, imagine how much they'll save from using way less bandwidth...

Anyways, still no GOM for me, the times and that price is so high while i can watch the other WCS for free.

Because it is cheaper to use twitch, because they spread the cost across all their streams and income. The same with YouTube. I think Husky said it would cost him 50K a month to host his videos himself, rather than work with YouTube.

Don't count on mobile availability. Some tournament channels disable mobile streaming since fewer ads play on the twitch app than the main site.

Although that's really dumb of them because you can't adblock the twitch app as far as I know.

I hope mobile is permitted. It's nice to listen to the cast at work.

well good thing you said it was stupid first it is a district of Seoul. Wikipedia/Google could have answered this in less than 30 seconds.. Psy chose gangnam as name for his song because of what the area is. "Wondering if you ever checked what the lyrics mean?"

Oh well, I guess I'm pretty much done with SC2 other than the occasional foreign tournament when there's literally nothing else to do, no way I'm giving Twitch money for such a terrible service.

I've never had an ad on the Twitch app (I wouldn't use it if it did), so either hosts blocking ads works or Twitch just doesn't want to show me ads.

I like the YouTube thing but I don't like the forced twitch because it is often laggy for me (both streams and vods). In general I don't like to watch vods on twitch. The video player of YouTube is way better and I think even the vod player of GOM was. And the new name is terrible too. I wonder if Artosis and Tasteless knew about this in advance and tried to prevent it. They are usually the ones who understand how silly most of these Korean name chances are.

i am sure the first thing a korean company does when they decide for a name change they ask their foreign employees about it.

That sucks, Twitch TV always lags for me, never had issue with GOM itself. I mean, I usually only watch the VODs, but even then Twitch sometimes acts up if it's a busy time
At least it's cheaper, but I still wish they hadn't gone with Twitch.

Well, can't judge yet if this is going to be good for the viewers or not. Let's hope it's all for the better. Big changes are always risky so I don't think gomtv would be doing such a thing without considering it thoroughly first.
