Ugh. Twitch never seems to run smoothly for me.

Mind you I was having issues with GOM vods going back a few months as well.

i have a question for those here who know the korean scene. What will happen to the korean viewers of gom? Will gom keep a koreans stream for their korean viewers(they are a korean company after all) or will they force all of their korean viewers to watch their products on twitch?Cause as far as i know le koreans aint big fans on twitch.last dreamhack finals had about 2k viewers on the korean stream. Also won't that be bad with korean sponsors since most users on twitch are form outside the might land of korea?

RIP our european viewers

Well acutally Twitch got better the last weeks in Europe, at least for me. I can watch many streams in Source quality before only High was possible and that even i had to lower from time to time to medium

Yeah for a long time I was able to watch only in low quality. But lately I was shocked when I was watching DH, IEM and my player loaded on "source" quality and I there was no lag.

I think that everyone that ever bought a ticket and not gonna buy a ticket for the next season like me because of this change should post it in their site, maybe it will help

No offense to twitch and I really love them and all they have done for esports, HOWEVER I like to watch my gomtv from their site with no lag on stream and vods, sadly twitch usually can't offer either. As gom will be the sole wcs partner for korea though I have no choice but to use their service any ways as I have little interest in foreign players.

I have a question (stupid) but still a question

..on their fancy site they say they work from "Gangnam Studio". Is that a name given before or after the gangnam style hit went viral? :D

I think the most important (or devastating) aspect of this announcement is that WCS no longer has free HQ and VODs for all the regions, essentially breaking the unified model for the league. The broadcast time for GSL is very early morning for America and midday for Europe. I'd bet most viewers have work or school and can't watch live. If everyone who watched the VODs in 2013 buy a ticket for 2014, GOM will be rich. Somehow I don't see this happening with the current prices...

Twitch used to be awful in Europe for few months early fall, but it seems to have gotten better now (atleast for me, source works again vs 360p lagging constantly).

You can view the VODs spoiler free from the WCS portal so it's not as bad as many here say. Can't remember if you see the purple time bar there too, but that's easily fixed if the proper people get notified of the problem.

It's just a location. There's a subway station called that way and their studio is next to it. The song is about that location area too. Not sure when they started building the new studio, but when they moved, the song existed, yes.

I really don't like the switch to twitch. In 2013 I only paid for WCS Korea because they had their own streaming service. It was bumpy in the first two, three months, but after that it ran really great. Also the VODs were easy to find and spoiler free. In 2011/12 I bought for almost every big tournament a HD ticket, but almost every time the twitch lagged pretty bad on the HD resolutions. I can understand, why GomTV / GomeXP did the switch, still I don't like it.

Go to http://www.gomexp.com/en/ scroll down to the leagues and check GSL. There are four streams listed for the korean viewers, so I guess they'll be ok.

As far as i am concerned, this is bad news. Twitch is known to have lag issues, especially for people from Europe, and I really loved Gom's stream and how fast they uploaded VODs, should you miss something.

I just don't want to pay for something that will stutter on high or source or watch on medium which will probably be pixelated as hell.

Monopoly is just a bad thing, now everything has to be on twitch, and their service is not really top notch. It is even worse when they condition some chats to be available only if you have Facebook account etc.

I just don't support that and hope at least Youtube will get more popular for streaming because Dailymotion simply isn't strong enough competitor.

the biggest issue from my perspective will be how will the korean fans and sponsors react to thin.no one has answered my previous question if gom will keep some sort of streams on korean sites like afreeca or if they will completly force the korean audience to watch twitch.koreans do not watch twitch in large numbers.also from what i see in their announcement they are disabling their player and mobile thingy too.this might be bad for the korean scene a bit.if gom productions do not get large numbers on twitch the sc2 korean scene might have severe issues.

They list some streaming services in the new site, among others Afreeca (see the post above your original). I get the impression those are to stay, since they are still listed. I hope this is the case as I share your fears how twitch only might go in Korea. From gomtv.net comments some said twitch is unwatchable in Korea. Don't know if that's just opinion of the few, but from this thread alone you can see Australia seems to get the short end of the stick on this switch. So it's not unrealistic to think Korea might not have enough servers either. That'd suck big time for the Korean scene.

i dont get the post sry when i look there its only the english one on twitch, and the korean is on different platforms like afri etc ... so i dont think its a problem for koreans, just for the lagheavy places on twitch like europe in foreigistan

wouldn't you retracting your subscription hurt gom a little.twitch ad money is sort of irrelevant.the only way they can make money of the foreign scene is by their seasonal subscriptions.and a lot of people on reddit are saying they will cancel subscriptions.if a lot of people cancel the subscriptions what interest will they have to keep english streams going?

Is there any confirmation that "High" for them means 720p ?

Cause last year's "high quality vods" meant 540p.

Noo!! I always liked more the streaming on the GOM Player, I hope Twitch doesn't lag as hell like usually was doing for me on some tournaments -_-
