we need a influx of up and coming players soon, more open tournaments and more daily/weekly tournaments. All the top players wont last forever

Not really surprising since he had said he was probably going to be retiring soon, but still very sad news to hear. Stephano was incredible for the scene, both in and out of the game. Amazing skill, amazing personality, and just controversial enough for that extra bit of fun. Losing him is a big blow to Starcraft II.
Nothing but respect for his decision, though. Some people complain about him being too focused on the money, but I think those people too easily forget that players are people. He has a life and a future to look out for, and it makes me admire him more--not less--that he did what he needed to do to set him up for true success. If providing for himself played a key role in driving him to become one of the most successful RTS players of all time, then I don't see why he should be judged for it.

even though I was never personally a fan, Stephano was huge for starcraft2. His departure marks a big loss for starcraft. Hopefully new players will be able to rise to the kind of level he achieved.

Not a surprise. With koreans in WCS Eu and Am, and less other foreigner events, there isn't really any interest in being the "best foreigner".

Well he's doing what he's always said he would so GL to him.
In a few years, he'll probably look back and see this as the best time to retire IMO. He's done well, but I think the returns will start to be less and less from now on.
One of the few honest players out there who always said he was 'In it for the money'. Nothing wrong with that, and he's provided us all with plenty of decent entertainment.

Hardly unexpected.
I just hope we see one last great tournament performance of him before he quits! Would be a shame to someone like him just fade away - he needs to go out with a bang!

Still sad he delayed hitting the GSL when he was at his peak, think he would have done pretty well, but then again if the lifestyle didn't work for him it's not really my place to 'demand' he toughs it out in an environment he isn't overly comfortable in.

He will be missed I'm sure but you have to do what makes you happy.
EG gonna have a lot of money with no Stephano/Idra, will be interesting who they buyup.
