This is killing Esport in my opinion. It might not in yours, but that is okay. I dont care about that. I'm just the guy who is gonna ignore everything from EG from now on, make them dissappear. The second i've closed this window, I wont even look at this thread anymore. I just want EG to slowly die off into nothingness. To protect the individuality of all other players in other games. It likely won't even make a difference, but if everyone would do it, it would truely kill them, and protect the other players in the future. Whether you agree with me or not is irrelevant, EG is gone.
they built the one of the most profitable organizations in sc2, have top teams in other games as well and have a very successful business running, which of course doesn't save them from you calling them "incompetent" in the same post where you spell razer "razor" ...
You don't throw words like "incompetent" out there just because someone has a different opinion than you. Incompetence means they have no idea what they are doing, which they clearly have.
I personally don't agree with everything EG has done, that doesn't mean they're incompetent. Anyway, I'm sure they'll be fine without you.

Why is every other post positing the existence of two binary positions that are the only options and choices available? The world exists in varying shades of grey.
Shades of gray are complicated Black and white is simple and simple is easy. And of course people have a strong tendency to take the easy path, consequences be damned.
this website has over the years passively encouraged this polarised, sensationalist viewpoint. that's the "community" at large (a large proportion of which would have to minors, who tend to represent this viewpoint heavily).

If 'being yourself' is synonomous with 'being a prick' you deserve to be punished.
There's barely a job on planet earth that lets you get away with being a prick publically and consistently. Even actors need to put on a good public face, regardless of how they behave on-set.
It's supremely childish to act as if you can say what you want, when you want, and not expect consequences for doing so. In credit to him, Idra has always accepted that, and the consequences that come from him speaking his mind.

eSports isn't taken seriously (and never will be) outside of TL and Korea. If you want it to be taken seriously, you need to be supporting players who consistently achieve high level results and bring home the prize money. Paying money for casters and 'great personalities' is just silly and is ultimately bad business.

This is true, but I think in EG's case the way they're approaching it is to have a core roster of genuinely good players that can get results, backed up by 'bad' players that are good personalities and who thus keep attention and views on the team. That's a rather different but if you think about it sensible approach; some players serve as marketing, some as results generators, though they're having a little difficulty getting those results so far.

That's partially right but definitely not entirely.
First use the correct words. BY NO MEAN ARE ANY OF THE PLAYERS YOU NAMED BAD. They're just not top tier players ... their still better than 99% of the people playing that game. And to make a competition last you need more than a few winners ... that's "any competitive environment" 101 ...
Now concerning that quote: Results are not the only determining factor in whether an individual deserves to be part of an eSports team. You can take this comparison to other disciplines ...
Football for example .. do you think a club like Paris Saint Germain bought David Beckhman who's closer from retiring than anything else for his amazing skills? (don't get me wrong, he's still a very good player but everyone should agree that he's not half as good as he was in his prime)
Competition is competition but e-sport is also an entertainment business and business implies money (to spend and earn). People like Incontrol have a very high value as they attract viewers (his stream numbers are still more than decent considering his latest results as a player), generate respect toward the EG brand through their actions (or not but Incontrol mostly does IMO) and exposure through their presence at multiple events (may it be to cast, play, both, spectate ... whatever we see an EG guy there).
The time when e-sport was a few people's very own little entertainment is over. It's not like there weren't tournaments EVERY FREAKING DAY to remind it to people. You can't expect this industry to behave like it did with a couple thousands fans (outside korea) when it now has hundred's of thousands of fans.
It's not your very own little hobby anymore, it's an industry with it's constraints and needs. Deal with it!

With enough luck, any GM terran could've done that. Now, that doesn't really mean that he's awful. He's just... average (amongst pro-gamers).

People either lack vocabulary or live with the most manichaean mindset ever seen: winn = good, loose = bad.
I know kindergardeners that could argue better than that ...

Having watched the real talk interview I really did not buy in to most of what idra said felt he was trying to save as many fans as he could to keep his stream numbers healthy cause its odd to say you don't realise calling fans is bad but then wants to say thanks to his real fans either very naive or back peddling
but I did tune in to his stream couple of days this week there seemed to be a change in his attitude even a bit of humor but this was short lived soon abuse of other players for what he deems as bad resumed an action I feel does the most to fuel the fans he claims he does not want or needs.
I hope him the best in the future and that the casting thing works out i personally have never enjoyed his casts form his lack of any emotion other than contempt to his negativity to any style of play that differs from his own.

love him or hate him, overall idra's contribution outweighs his cost. his 'activity' as esports first major 'heel' compelled thousands to pay stricter attention to the community at a time when this additional attention was greatly needed.
in the long run, everyone will look back and laugh, while others will assume a similar role in future.
seems to me that these days, most 'big time' pro sports develop these types of story lines, in concert with the media (as a segment of their overall marketing strategy), however uncomfortable this role may be to play for the individual concerned.

Not even a week out of EG and he's calling Demuslim, a long-time teammate, a "stupid fucking gold-league terran," and saying how "Demuslim was decent a while ago and now is just absolute garbage" on his stream when they played each other... the faster Idra is out of e-sports the better in my opinion. Come on, this is TL, uninformed posts about the relationships between players is our bread and butter.
I am sure that Idra disliking Demuslim has nothing to do with them being former roommates and on the same team. Who says some slightly untrue things about their former roommates they didn't like? None of us have EVER done that.

Yeah I'm sure it's the community's appreciation for personalities that's holding esports back from being mainstream. It's not like those potential mainstream viewers have no idea what the community likes lol.
