It's still march in the USA. Could probably ask Suppy for confirmation on twitter or something.

@Mistertea: Suppy is in college, so obviously he can't go for very long.

It's also still March in Canada, interesting huh? Many companies (Blizzard to name one) frequently makes their announcements on March 31st. The tweet says he's going during may, which is when school is off (assuming he isn't taking summer school, which he has been doing in the past), which makes it seem more real. If it is a joke, wouldn't you want it to seem real, and not blatantly obvious?

Even if I'm wrong, so what? Nothing. I'm not buying it.

o.O ok sorry, lol. My family lives in Canada, I happen to be in the US. I could have also said central, south america, and mexico, but I happened to go with the country I'm in. I'd also have been forgetting any number of islands like Cuba etc. I didn't look at where you live.

I'm not disputing your ability to not buy it. You're more than welcome to do so, I was simply stating evidence as to why I could see it being real.

Plus, this isn't cruel, funny, or otherwise interesting. I don't think it would make a very interesting april fool's joke. On april 2nd, EG is like "lol april fools," but who cares? XD

He's still in school.

Why does it seem like half the foreigners are trying to be progamers while in school? What is the point? They can't possibly be competitive with the koreans like this...

You know suppy beat polt towards the end of WoL in a showmatch? Before polt semi-retired to go study that is. He's pretty good. Obviously he isn't going to win GSL anytime soon, but he's also not a full time progamer.

I'm just saying that the foreigner scene will never keep up if they do not fully dedicate themselves. Sure, maybe they get the last laugh when they have good careers to transition into later in life but in the mean time they will be mediocre pro gamers. I'm fine with people wanting to transition in life I just want to see some more committed players.

Maybe we need less commitment from Koreans?

I'm sure I'm not most people, but I don't care about a league which features players who dropped out of high school to work for a professional gaming team dedicated to building brand recognition for a large corporation (basically Kespa style proleague teams). Similarly, I wouldn't care about a baseball league or baseball records where all of the players are taking steroids, and I don't care about the skill of athletes who graduate from East-Germany style athletic schools. I know that admiring the sacrifice of players in their passionate pursuit of progaming is a big thing on TL, but there are many things not worth sacrificing.

Kudos to Suppy for trying to have it all. I hope that he does great things when he can go full time after he graduates from school.

Do you not view pro gaming as a legitimate profession? If it is a legitimate profession you would expect a professional level commitment no? That seems to be the problem that koreans treat it as a profession and foreigners treat it as a hobby that pays.

1. it doesn't matter what day it is, there is no legislation on prank-dishing

2. If this actually is a prank it's just completely retarded and un-funny, so I don't know why it would be a prank. Haha you fooled me into thinking suppy is going to korea good one? It would be just a complete waste of time so I can't imagine why someone would ever think this is a good prank candidate

3. You don't have to act so confident that it's a prank, nobody will judge you if you are "fooled", chill out.

4. Good luck to suppy, this is a huge opportunity.

If it is a legitimate profession, then we would expect professionals filling the ranks. I'm objecting to the kids filling the ranks of pro teams, and, more importantly, the horribly paid b-teams of pro teams-- the "practice slaves" as referenced by Huk in his last MLG interview. We Westerners tend to get very upset when 15 year old kids make our sneakers, but we don't get upset when they work to promote Samsung or Korean Telecom?

However, I consider it as legitimate of a profession as any other athletic profession. Until we see a 60 year old White-Ra or Nestea winning tournaments in 2043, then we have to assume that progaming is a transient existence. Because it is transient, we should expect players (as professionals) to have an exit strategy and a post-gaming career plan. This is basically what many Western pros are doing, they are either in university now, or they wait to be a full time pro until after university. The reason they are behind Koreans is that their Korean counterparts will likely have an additional 6-8 years of full time progaming experience compared to a Westerner. It's an almost impossible gap to overcome, and it's pretty obvious that the best Western progamers are the ones who went straight into progaming after high school, but they are still behind the Koreans who started earlier than them.

Can't wait to see him kick ass! Suppy has been one of my favorite zergs to watch stream, so I hope he'll still be up at reasonable hours for us back in Europe and USA.
Should be interesting to see how the team house environment will work out for him also, as far as I know he's always just trained on his own. ( As in not in a team house)

I still remember the first year Blizzard did an april fools, they had the longest WoW patch notes I've ever seen (at the time, if I were to look back it may not seem so long), and I kept saying on the forums that "it was posted on March 31st, so it can't possibly be an april fools joke!". Surely enough, it was an april fools joke. I think this is a joke, and if it's not, then I hope Suppy enjoys himself.

We'll see in a few days!

I hope the joke is that it's not just 5 weeks, training stints aren't worth the effort imo. If you wanna be good, stay and work your ass off, don't just fly home and beat up NA kids on ladder.

Outside of Korea, it's not. SC2 has been around for less than three years. To mortgage your future and bet the rest of your life on being able to support yourself through playing it is beyond stupid.

nonsense. No one is doing that by taking time off to play professionally. First off, the time they are suggesting he is going wouldn't impact his education. Second, he could take years off if he wanted to and very easily rejoin school in order to pursue whatever future he wanted. I speak from experience, as someone who took 6 years off of school to play poker professionally and am now close to getting my degree in accounting. Let people choose their own paths and quit being so judgmental.

Best wishes for Suppy. I'm betting he got a phone call from Scarlett saying "OMG, it's great, you need to get over here."

That and of all the players currently on EG and in NA, he's a clear choice to send with regard to recent performance and desire. He's no stranger to hard work either, and I think Coach Park could do wonders with him.
