Razer just announced via Facebook that they partnered with Evil Geniuses, after their partnership with SteelSeries ended :

Razer Official Announcement:
http://www.razerzone.com/press/detail/e-sports/evil-geniuses-joins-team-razer

EG Official Announcement:
http://razer.evilgeniuses.net/

CARLSBAD, Calif. – Feb. 4th, 2013 – Razer, one of the world’s pioneering supporters of e-Sports, and Evil Geniuses, the Western world’s premier professional gaming team, have formed a partnership to reinforce Razer’s support of e-Sports globally.

Team Evil Geniuses is one of the longest-running organizations in North American e-Sports, and they house arguably the most prestigious roster of professional gamers in the region. EG makes for a fantastic addition to the elite ranks of Team Razer: From their Dota 2 division, which features fan favorites like DeMoN, Maelk and Fear, to their broad roster of StarCraft 2 talent, including superstars like Jaedong, Stephano and IdrA, to Justin Wong, Ricky Ortiz and their deep Fighting Game line-up, to Snoopeh and their newly-acquired League of Legends team.

“Evil Geniuses is one of the best gaming organizations to have ever existed,” said Min-Liang Tan, Razer co-founder, CEO and creative director. “Their roster reads as a Who’s Who of e-Sports and I am looking forward to partnering them in 2013 and beyond. We’ve always been huge supporters of e-Sports and the community and this partnership with EG will take us even further.”

Evil Geniuses teamed- up with fellow Team Razer member Team Liquid to compete in this year’s Starcraft 2 Proleague, and are now the first non-Korean-based team to compete in the most prestigious professional league televised globally. Marcus “ThorZaIN” Eklöf,” Evil Geniuses’ Swedish Terran player, who in December became the first non-Korean player to win a Proleague match in more than seven-and-a-half years, was recently awarded Proleague’s MVP award in consideration of his outstanding play and positive mentality.

“We are honored to welcome Razer as our official partner for mice, keyboards and mousepads,” remarked Evil Geniuses CEO Alexander Garfield. “We have been lucky enough over the years to have received great support from companies that share our passion and enthusiasm for e-Sports, and we are grateful to see Razer join that group. With their support, we’ll not only continue to support our players better than any other team in the world, but we’ll also be able to introduce a number of great custom products – something we’ve wanted to offer or fans for a long time.”

The Evil Geniuses partnership further solidifies Razer’s already-established dominance within e-Sports and reinforces Razer’s commitment to the ever-growing e-Sports industry. Look for Evil Geniuses players to be sporting their brand-new Razer gear in upcoming major tournaments, such as IEM Katowice, League of Legends Season 3 and IPL6.

I would have thought EG be a bit more immediate with removing those Steelseries adds from their overlays. Been a few (or only 1?) weeks and it's still there. Grats to them, glad they got the sponsorship.

We knew this would happen for a couple weeks now. I want to know how long until they switch over to using Razer's gear? I also find this Razer monopoly a bit boring. I'd love to see Logitech get into sponsoring teams. I hear the G710+ is amazing.

the 6gv2 is the best keyboard i have ever owned. I switched for EG to SS, and even though they are switching to Razer i am not getting another razer board. However, razer does make excellent mice, i love my abyssus.

I actually buy stuff made by the people who sponsor my favorite teams. I bought an intel PC when they sponsored BoxeR and an LG monitor when they sponsored IM (Was leaning into Samsung). I hated Razer for removing their sponsorship for SlayerS though so I bought a senheisser instead )

Logitech, at least in my experience, has always felt more mass-market tuned as opposed to specifically to the gamer market, which is totally fine, but Razer and SS gunning directly at gamers allows for better tailored specs and such. However I haven't owned/researched Logitech products in quite some time, so I may be out of the loop now.

I think you misunderstand the fact that all of their players then have to use the razer products and if they consider them inferior it might hurt their performance. Especially in something as important as this, where their entire team is using the products in for example proleague where it can take quite a while to adjust.

Razer keyboards used to be shit (the lycosa and arctosa especially, A TON of bugs lol) but their mice were always the best imo (will ever be a better mouse than the deathadder? :D) so it's cool that EG players will be able to play with razer mice without hiding it.

Mad props to Razer for funding the frat parties.

I jest I jest.

It's good that they are putting so much into esports. Everyone should be thankful, not "omg they sponsor everyone fucksake".

Pretty much. A year or two ago I spent an extra 30 bucks for back-lights on my razer widow (ultimate). Was hard to convince myself, but at the end of the day, razer got their monies

We have to be careful here. Endorsement deals and sponsorship deals can vary. I would never force a player to use a peripheral they have issues with. It's all about comfort. That doesn't mean they cannot plug/advertise their products and I'm sure they could find something to use that wouldn't hinder them while playing. In Pro League you'll see a lot of players using equipment they've been using for ages. Heck some guys still use ball mice, so easy there with the 100% switch to all things Razer. It doesn't necessarily work that way.

P.S. I'm sure there are a lot of guys who wouldn't give a rats ass but there will always be a few who just like using their old shit.

Honestly Razer products have been on the decline for a while. They used to be tolerable, but everything I've tried in recent years has been just god awful. Headset, mouse, and keyboard all given a fair shot, and all either break, malfunction catastrophically (so, spectacularly break), or are just garbage in every way.

Had a 6gv2 since they came out, and have had 0 issues. IMO buy a decent mechanical and get some Sennheisers. No need for bad shiny loot.

I always was amused with the idea of Liquid and EG being sponsored by competing brands, kind of like a rivalry within a rivalry.

I believe that is the exact reason why steelseries isn't renewing their sponsorship of EG. It does make sense to switch though especially if they were ever to really make it in Korea as part of PL. Can't really shout-out to two different companies at the same time.

It's really great to see razer putting that much effort and support into pro teams. I'd really like them to polish their products a bit more though, the razer mice I owned didn't feel up to their price.. Stop using that terrible glossy plastic, so that we can support you while you support teams :D!

Steelserie pull back of a lot of other sponsorship for a lot of teams everywhere. ( including SK after a 15y partnership )
So I think there's more to it than that.

Um, no it isn't. We had a few threads not too long ago where it was pretty clear that Steel Series was pulling out of several sponsorship deals. It's not just EG, so no you're wrong. Steel Series is re-considering how they advertise and market their products as a whole.

Can't wait to hear how razer is actually the best equipment in gaming after 2+ years of steelseries shoved down my throat by incontrol. I don't blame him but anyone who trusts sponsored players for peripheral endorsements is, umm, yea.

Hopefully most people can think for themselves and not believe everything they hear. They're just doing what they're paid to do.

I think you misunderstand how sponsorships work.

I think you misunderstand the fact that all of their players then have to use the razer products and if they consider them inferior it might hurt their performance. Especially in something as important as this, where their entire team is using the products in for example proleague where it can take quite a while to adjust.

Actually no, I think you just misunderstand how sponsorships work. The way EG was always praising SS gear was because they sponsored them (and probably because it is in fact good), and knocking on Razer was just because it's a competing brand.

I sincerily doubt that Razer gear is so bad that they wouldn't be able to play comfortably.

Used my 1st Razer abyssus for 2,5 years, then it got bad. Using my Blackwidow also gave me no problems after 2 years, just like my Banshee. So maybe it's not the product but the user who causes the malfunctions ;_;

Yes, the diamondback. I hope they will be reselling them again ;_;

Cool with the sponsorship, congrats EG.

This is funny stuff. You know the Steelseries keyboard and Razer keyboard are probably made in the same 1-2 factories? Same goes for their mice, headsets, mouse mats, and every other brand of of peripheral makers stuff. They all use the same quality plastics. What people perceive as quality is purely that, perception. The quality is all equal.

A blackwidow is just as nice of a mechanical keyboard as the 6gv2, if you want blues go razer, if you want blacks go SS. Get the mouse that fits your hand the best. Never buy any gaming headset, go Sennheisers or audio-technica!

Sorry about the mini rant, just annoying to see people throw quality around when its all the same. This is a pretty expected move, and a good one for both parties.

Razer is personally sponsoring a lot of my favorite players (Illusion, AZUBU.Violet, Leenock). I couldnt care less about EG. Guess SteelSeries pulled the plug. Cant wait for the commercials, on how (all of a sudden) Razer has the best mice etc.

It would be interesting to say what the EG people have to say about their Steelseries gear now that they don't have to use it anymore. I wonder if they would still be singing the praises of it. I certainly am not after my experiences with Steelseries.

I am kinda impartial about Razer, I like their mousepads (I have the TL one and it is nice to use) but I use a Filco and a Logitech G1 and have no intention of switching because they are perfect for me.

I don't really side with 1 company more than another, but my razer banshee's mic stopped working after less than 3 months (which is a very common problem for that product). I've got through 3 razer naga mice, each lasting 12 months, 10 months and 4 months. My razer widow ultimate's shift key jams everynow and then (not convenient during a game). I don't abuse my things, but if I've concluded anything from this, Razer has bad quality control. There's no reason to have this many problems with literally every product I buy (again, 5 items).

Since then I've bought a sensei and Siberia v2, no problems so far.

I think if you asked most guys who were following the Steel Series situation would have called it without a second thought. I would have been more shocked if they signed on with someone else. Now that would be surprising.

I like how honest EG was about their previous deal with Steelseries. As soon as the contract was over, no hollow words of friendship were wasted anymore. This is about exactly one thing, and as soon as this money doesn't flow anymore, every friendship is gone. So don't buy Steelseries no more, but buy Razer to grow E-Sports. Be a man.

Wait you're thinking sponsorships are about friendship ? Are you even real ? Of course EG players are going to talk well about SS products, because it's the sole reason SS is sponsoring in the first place : publicity. It has absolutely nothing to do with friendship =_=

Steelseries has a history of supporting local LAN tournaments of different games. They supported many teams at one point just like Razer. They may not sponsor a lot of teams like they did, but they are just as important. I find their products more reliable than Razer's. At least they do not need to have fancy and flashy gizmos to sell while sacrificing quality.

I actually like their mouse mat the best. No other companies have that kind of soft thick mat with that many size to choose from
6gv2 isn't all that amazing compared to blackwidow, their keycaps are kinda bad. money could have been spent on a better one like a ducky

My Sensei didn't last as long as I would have liked it to in all honesty but it was a nice product. The action just faded too quickly in the one I got. I have the Abyssus now which is stellar, and on that note good for EG.

The reason why I hesitated in buying SteelSeries gear even though I owned a Xai which has been excellent (but fragile), and a 7H (same thing) was because they were partners with EG.

Now that reason is gone and I finally can buy SteelSeries gear without feeling like i'm encouraging un-worthy lazy gamers :D

The whole sponsorship concept is one of the silliest business concepts in the world. It's unbelievable how stupid people must be if they think a product means anything more if it is sponsoring someone. It's almost as corrupt as the lottery, but don't worry, it's business.

I'm pretty sure the "Be a man." part is trying to say that "real men buy Razer because it's sponsoring their favorite team." You know, because a "man" does the RIGHT thing. It was sarcasm.

Tt Esports sponsors a variety of SC2 team/players as well. Teams/players such as: Prime, White-Ra, Tastosis, etc.

I prefer Steelseries products over Razer. But eh, I'll stick to the peripherals I already have. I like Totalbiscuit's thinking though of not having a peripheral sponsor, just let the users use what they're comfortable with instead of forcing them to use the sponsors' peripherals but at the same time, I'm sure EG is getting funding out of the Razer deal too.

Thankfully all of my Razer products have been top notch including my BlackWidow Stealth. I will say that their customer service is absolutely the worst. Good thing their product ended up being good..... The funny thing is I did buy a Razer keyboard simply because they sponsor so many SC2 teams. And low and behold they are sponsoring another team. Go Razer!

Good for razor makes me want to buy more razor stuff. As a man who gas tried all of both products I must say steel series g6v2 keyboard is best thing I have ever touched. My razor one was a lycosa and it wasn't very good it got worn down and pretty hard to clean. The razor mice are waaaaaaaay better than steel series mice specially the old razor mice like the diamond back and before. The headsets are both meg the razor has an issue where it causes buzzing noise though so the steel steel series is alittle better. Anyway I like both of there stuff and posted on steel series website what I had bought and said I probably will be no longer purchasing there stuff because of the sponsoship cuts. I hope in the future they come back but till then razor stuff for me and possibly a das keyboard if i need a new one.

Logitech sponser the best team of them all.

Go Razer!

Interesting about the customer support thing. I sent them an email basically asking them to give me some replacement keys for the keyboard 'cause their paint/plastic were dying as well as a stand 'cause I lost it (somehow) and they sent all that stuff and were like "we looked far and wide to get these to you, enjoy".

Well, maybe now EG-TL will get cool matching uniforms now.

Also, Logitech might be the sponsor that Axiom will announce soon.

How come you think it is going to be Logitech?

ON EG and Razer - very much expected partnership.

Didn't either TB or Jenna state that they won't take peripheral sponsorships because they want their players to play with what they're most comfortable with and not what their sponsors want them to? Not sure though.

I'm very well aware of that, yet it still stands the reason that my Razer products consistently went tits-up and my SS has yet to have a single issue. I honestly couldn't care less which company I support, I just want gear that works. So far, Razer hasn't provided any that has for my experience.

Steelseries products are mostly better than razer. My mechanical keyboard 6gv2 with cherry blacks is the best ive ever had. Razer is often too gimmicky with too many buttons or mouse designs witch dont fit in any hand i can imagine.

That sort of evidence is anecdotal, however. I have several Razer products, including a mouse I have used for nearly 3 years without issue. Some of the people may have had bad luck with Razer products, but in general I think every product line has that issue, regardless of who makes it.

Congrats to EG & Razer. ^_^

Although...I still use the OEM mouse + keyboard that came with my desktop. No issues staying in masters with these generic devices.

High end gear always seemed so extraneous to me. Kind of like Reebok Pumps making you jump higher.

Depends on what you're looking for. Reading user reviews for that funky 7.1 headset, the Razer Tiamat, it was apparently REALLY GOOD for gaming - meaning picking up directional cues in an FPS, that kind of thing. On the other hand, like any gaming brand they're not what you want if you're looking for excellent headphones for music. (Though they should be better than cheapo $20 headphones for music.)

P.S. No idea on comfort/build quality.

True, but anecdotal evidence shouldn't be invalid. It's important to have consistent performance all across the board. While you're right, every company has a slew of issues to deal with that are similar, their handling of the situation and assistance therein left a pretty bad taste in my mouth about the brand. Which is unfortunate because they support a lot of teams I like.

This.

Plea to all bronzeleaguers; keyboard and mouse should be the last of your concerns.

To be fair, arnt the 16 year olds ''hardcore MLG 720 noscope'' or ''this keyboard glows and makes clicky sounds SO PRO'' gamers the main customers?

No, they don't make you magically play better. But they just feel very nice. Can't speak for keyboard, as I never bothered to get anything other than dirt cheap there - but moving from el generic mouse to a Mionix Naos 3200 was just very, very nice. It's hard to describe, but there's an ergonomics & smoothness that just isn't in the generic mice. Worth the $50, even though I play at 800 DPI (default DPI of most mice that come with pre-built computers, though some of those are 400dpi too).

Are we talking ergonomics? Or sensors?

Don't get me wrong, I loved my MX 518, and currently my G400 which is a good successor to the mx510/518 optical mice. It's sensor was top notch, and i liked the ergonomics/feel to it with my palm grip. But when I had my Deathadder 3G that lasted for under a year, I found it's sensor to be probably the best I had ever used out of various mice over many years (at least in my experience in FPS games). Only reason why I won't touch Razer gear unless I got it for free was my DA died pretty fast in under a year's worth of time - or more specifically one of the thumb buttons completely collapsed inwards including the spring/mechanism (shoddy build quality).

I really wonder what RAZER really does for all these teams besides giving some hardware.

Razer helps to promote our teams through our social media network and we organize events & cross-promotions, such as show-matches with other Team Razer members, AMA's moderated by our Razer Academy personalities, or annual events such as Razer's Team of the Year, which results in a team branded Razer product that will produce income for an organization.

If one of our member organizations disbands or downsizes then we'll do what we can to connect those now free agents with our other Team Razer members in the hopes of finding them a suitable replacement team.

In general, our member organizations know they can come to us with anything and we'll take an honest look at it. Sometimes that means financial assistance to make it to an event, products to stock a team's web store, or just helping them to promote their own content via our social media network.

We offer the same assistance to our Team Razer personalities and content creators as well, for example, Athene, ChanmanV, and the Cyber Sports Network.

Also, it should be said that the Razor mouse is far more durable than the thing I use at work. The same with the keyboard I have at home. If people are looking to upgrade to avoid having to buy a new, cheap mouse every few months, it is worth it.

it's not the same. different products will have different materials in some cases, and even if you're point was right, they are still build differently. if your point was correct then there wouldn't be that much need for engineers, since all they do is exactly that - ftrying to find the best solution for everyone. and obviously, the standards given are different for different companies, so you have products of varying quality in the end.

and to say that those keyboards get build in the same 1-2 factories is just ridiculous. one keyboard-brand will get it's components produced in up to a few dozen of factories. and not every factory will produce for everyone, since every company - again - has different needs and expectacions in what they want and where they want to build there parts.

all in all, quality is different for different products. it's a core part of any competition to have superior quality to price ratio.

Thought I'd sound off, Razer Lachesis Version 1 4,000 DPI mouse going strong for 4+ years now, almost 5! Don't know what I'm gonna do once it breaks down T.T oh ya, use some generic shitty mouse then use my mouse and try to tell me there isn't a difference in how fluid and sensitive it is.
Limited Edition, lets do some simple addition, $50 for a T-Shirt is just some ignorant bitch shit.

Hypocrisy isn't really a word I would use when people are advertising for their paid sponsor. Hypocrisy has more to do with personal beliefs or conduct, rather of product you prefer to use.

If you want to believe that, feel free. The qualities are so similar it essentially is the same. People that complain they had X amount of Razer products fail, or X amount of SS, or Logitech, have to realize that they just got unlucky. The opposite is true as well, if you've had a product for way longer than most other people, you probably got lucky on how its holding up.

Also, someone earlier in the thread said logitech is getting away from gaming; this isn't true in the the PC world. They are getting out of console gaming(I believe), but still are going to make computer gaming stuff. Just wanted to clarify, it would be pretty big news if Logitech was leaving the computer peripheral business as they are a big player in it.

I wonder what teams do with old shirts when they change sponsors. I'd imagine they stop ordering them when they know sponsorship's may come to an end, but they must have some old stock. Discounted 2012 EG jersey maybe?

It's not really a problem at all, since it is highlighted in "Community New". People are pretty aware that TL is also sponsored by Razor too.

It probably makes sense because Razer sponsors TL aswell.

Had a 6gv2 since they came out, and have had 0 issues. IMO buy a decent mechanical and get some Sennheisers. No need for bad shiny loot.

This is a pretty expected move, and a good one for both parties.

it's not the same. different products will have different materials in some cases, and even if you're point was right, they are still build differently. if your point was correct then there wouldn't be that much need for engineers, since all they do is exactly that - ftrying to find the best solution for everyone. and obviously, the standards given are different for different companies, so you have products of varying quality in the end.

and to say that those keyboards get build in the same 1-2 factories is just ridiculous. one keyboard-brand will get it's components produced in up to a few dozen of factories. and not every factory will produce for everyone, since every company - again - has different needs and expectacions in what they want and where they want to build there parts.

all in all, quality is different for different products. it's a core part of any competition to have superior quality to price ratio.

Yes but that's what quality control is. If I got "unlucky" 5 out of 5 times I got a product from Razer, it's probably not just bad luck.

That's exactly my point. If you send one customer shit 4/4 times (in my case), then they will never give your brand another chance, and you've left them with not only a bad taste in their mouth, but now they won't recommend your products to anyone.

The thing with most of Razer's "sponsorships" from what I've seen is it's just them providing the teams with some gear and not actually money. Since this is described as a partnership I imagine it'll go a bit beyond that considering how invested EG is into promoting their partners' products.

But you are still one person and as we discussed before, it is still anecdotal evidence. It sucks for you, but people should not make it more than it is. I and all of my friends have had no problems with the Razor products we own. Also, peoples should take claims like "I bought 15 Razor products and they all broke within a month! One of them killed my cat....twice!" with a grain of salt(present company quoted in this post excluded). This is the internet folks, people tend to make shit up.

Meh. I'm still pissed my Razer bungee split in half. Should of just bought a cheap knock off on ebay, half the price.
They need to make the top part out of tougher metal. I had a mouse with thick braided cord and it split the holder thing after a few months.

Methinks you don't know what hypocrisy means. Neither of those things make anyone hypocrites. They'd be hypocrites if they said "I'll never be paid to promote a product!" or "I'll never defend a guilty man!"

Nope. same thing, but just with money.

Wait, so a public defender who defends a criminal who he knows to be guilty is a hypocrite? He is paid to do the job and is doing so to the best of his ability?

Yep pretty much.

Hypocrisy. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Hmm, well I like Razer and Steelseries, but as long as they have their sponsors that's fine. Have a Razer mouse and Steelseries headset atm.

Methinks you don't know what hypocrisy means. Neither of those things make anyone hypocrites. They'd be hypocrites if they said "I'll never be paid to promote a product!" or "I'll never defend a guilty man!"

Like I said, it's the same but with money.

Razer doesnt make the best mouse pad, I bought their newest cloth one, it frayed in 3 days of use and I sent it back for a refund. I bought one of their middle of the road headsets, it failed after 1 year of use. I havent used their keyboards, so I cant speak on that.

However...

The deathadder mouse is by far the best mouse I have ever used and I will never switch to a different mouse as long as they keep making them. The one I use right now has seen heavy gaming use and abuse, the thing is actually hard to break. You have to actually try to break it for it to fail. I've had it for 6 years so far and it's still working as if I just got it. That I can really appreciate.

Well razer has always been known for their mouses and steelseries has always been known for their keyboard and headsets.

Meh, I've had 2 deathadders break within 6 months both same problems, got a logitech and haven't looked back. As far as keyboards go if you get a SS or a razor over something else like a CMstorm you are kind of just wasting money. But nice to see people supporting esports even if their products are mediocre.

This is a cool announcement. I already have the Sensei mouse though, and it's absolutely amazing. I don't see myself switching anytime soon.

I think both companies make great mice and mouse pads.

I use a steelseries headset and I think it's really comfortable but sound quality isn't much to be desired. When it breaks I'll be going back to senniheser or equivalent.

In general I think SS keyboards are nicer than Razer, less useless plastic and frill keys on their mechanicals. I also think the 6gv2 and 7g use costar boards which a lot of really good companies use.

My current equipment

Mice (DeathAdder and Sensei)
Headset (SS siberia, won't replace with SS or Razer)
Keyboard (mx brown filco majestouch, mx blue coolermaster tenkeyless)
Mouse pad (qck+ steelseries)

I went into this thread excpecting Razer stickers on Filcos and stuff, but a lot of the people seem to like Razer. And Idra is much more proeminent in the picture than JD. Ah well, I guess it's okay. Business as usual in american SC2.

Kinda funny, but anyways, congratulations to Evil Geniuses, and I hope this partnership stays for a long time.

Razer must have offered some serious money, because I can't imagine SteelSeries gaining more from any eSport related investment they've made lately. No other organisations come close to promoting their sponsors as well as EG do.

The contract must've been finishing for SteelSeries, Razer made their offer, EG presented it to SteelSeries, they couldn't match it, therefore a new sponsor has arrived! Congrats to EG and Razer, keeping e-Sports alive. :D

Not really.
Steelseries are pulling out of team sponsoring as part of them restructuring and evaluating their marketing strategy, maybe they will start again. They broken ties with SK and other of their long time partners as well.

That's cool. I memorized all of EG's sponsors in IdrA's voice and recite them on command, but now I'll have to say Razer instead of Steelseries.... It's cool though since I use all Razer gear myself. Abyssus, Lycosa, Goliathus, Megalodon. Lol yeah I like Razer. My monitor has a blue LED light and my PC's case has a bunch of blue LED stuff all over it. So this whole corner of my room glows blue with Razer logos at night. Mmmm yeah.

you will find one day that both razer and steelseries products are pretty awful. they use them because they have to. those that care use mice like the CM spawn, deathadder and abyssus actually ARE legit mice, g400, CM recon

then for keyboards its not that brand name boards are any better then non brand, its about size. a noppoo choc mini or the vortex poker are great if you dont like extra keyboard that you dont use for gaming and razer and steelseries dont make these sizes. just saying

I already have the deathadder and black widow. Step ahead! Had a feeling they would go with Razer. Pretty happy about this. TBH, Steel Series was lacking a bit in quality. I do love my pink headset, though! Will use it as long as it lasts. ^_~

How is it silly that Razer sponsors everyone exactly? Not sure how it works in the states but is it a big deal that your local sports team is sponsored by Nike while your opponent is sponsored by Adidas?

Anyway there is a reason I play on a Razer keyboard with Razor mouse and that Razer mouse is on a Steelseries mousepad and I use a steelseries headset. However I am seeing less and less reason to support Steelseries.

I've owned my Lycosa since the day it launched. Zero issues.
I owned a Copperhead for 4 years before replacing it. Zero issues.
Picked up a Carcharias about 4 years ago and haven't had any issues yet, but I've replaced the mic with a professional setup. Sounds great with a headphone amp, though.
Replaced my Copperhead with a Mamba. Zero issues in the last few years.

Glad my team has validated all of my prior Razer purchases!

I just bought an Abyssus for unrelated reasons, and was pretty annoyed that I had to register with them in order to get mouse drivers. (Which weren't even available for Win8. Sigh!)

Nonetheless, pleased to see their continued involvement in eSports.

Yeah. I really like my deathadder and my blackwidow back when I had it, but having to make an account and log into Razer Synapse every time I want to change a setting or get new drivers is pretty terrible. It should be optional.

Ok, after the series of short responses with no justification behind your statements, it is clear you don’t know what your talking about or you are simply a troll. You might want to spend some time reading up on the meaning of the word hypocrisy and the appropriate context in which it should be used. But then again, words like context, nuance and subtlety are lost on the internet and may also be lost on you as well.

Since Logitech kicked Gaming-stuff and pretty much everything else besides Tablet-Accessoires out of their Business-plan (jeah, I know..they did not everything totally right now. But they will ^^) I'm pretty sure they wont sponsor any team (for long)...

Hypocrisy isn't really a word I would use when people are advertising for their paid sponsor. Hypocrisy has more to do with personal beliefs or conduct, rather of product you prefer to use.

Nope. same thing, but just with money.

Wait, so a public defender who defends a criminal who he knows to be guilty is a hypocrite? He is paid to do the job and is doing so to the best of his ability?

Yep pretty much.

Methinks you don't know what hypocrisy means. Neither of those things make anyone hypocrites. They'd be hypocrites if they said "I'll never be paid to promote a product!" or "I'll never defend a guilty man!"

Like I said, it's the same but with money.

So I need to write an essay so it wont invalidate my points for you right? Yeah thought so. Maybe you're the one who doesn't know what the word perspective means. Look it up and read clearly from my previous posts.

"Wait, so a public defender who defends a criminal who he knows to be guilty is a hypocrite? He is paid to do the job and is doing so to the best of his ability?"

If he pleads innocent, he's a liar, at the very least, and a terrible person.

The public defender is an attorney who is appointed by the court. Because in the US because everyone gets an attorney, who defends the party, guillty or not, to the best of their ability. They are the opposist of terrible people and it is one of the most celebrated positions in the legal profession.

And we have wandered well beyond the topic at hand. I think we can safely say that no one on EG is a hypocrite for hyping their new sponsor and the products their sponsors make.

Telling me to look back at your previous posts does not make the arguments like "Yep pretty much." and "Like I said, it's the same but with money" less garbage. I think it is pretty clear that you don't know what the word "hypocrite" means and just want to make snide one like responses because they are easy.

Gonna be fun to see what they all use, and even more if they try to praise it like I'd see them do for SteelSeries ALL the time.

Deathadder hard to break? Dude, I had Deathadder for like year, maybe year and a half, then I switched back to my Logitech MX518, because Deathadder started to doubleclick. Now I'm using my 7 years old Logitech and it's not even close to die.

Also, Deathadder is absolutely not scratchproof. Scratch it even accidentaly with your nail and you'll have uncomfortable mouse for rest of it's life.

The only disadvantage of MX518 I see is getting it dirty easily. If your hands sweat a lot, your mouse will be dirty all the time. But it's rageproof. I love it.

Most peripherals marketed towards gamers are subpar in general (headsets, keyboards, mice, etc.) when compared to their competitors who don't spend as much money in marketing as "gaming" companies do like Razer or Steelseries. People either buy Razer or Steelseries much like people would buy Alienware and think it's the highest end pc, or a Steelseries headset and think it gives them the best audio experience ever. Also, +1 on MX 518 I've had this mouse forever it seems like and it still works fine.

I've never been a huge fan of Razer's products other than my Death Adder. That being said, I've had that mouse for a long time now and it's always been good, so maybe I should give them more of a chance. Anyways, nice pick-up for Razer and EG imo

The MX518 is an anomaly tough. Used it for god knows how many years and still works fine as a back up mouse.

Feedback that im not the only one getting multiclicks out of my left click. First gaming mouse ive used (twice bought) with same problem and is pretty beast, until multiclicks start happening. After reading through here, ill definately try elsewhere for mice, no hate towards razer either since im using keyboard and headset . But definately not buying any mice from then razer until logitech or steelseries get their fair chance at me.

Yea the double clicking is quite known, have the same problem and just ordered a G400, which is supposed to be successor of the MX518.

Yeah my Death Adder did that too. Now I am using a Logitech G1 I paid $19 for and it has lasted longer than my Death Adder. I then got a matte finished G1 that I use with my other setup and combined I still have paid less than I did for 1 Death Adder.

Congrats to EG and Razor! TL and EG to merge soon? That would be interesting. If not, this makes their relationship grow even closer regardless. Good things are happening.

I have Razer Blackwidow but I'll admit it's only cause of the glowy lights and NOT because of e-sports. I'll still root for players that I enjoy watching regardless of their gear. Any promotion of my hobby as a legitimate industry is all good in my opinion.

Also I use a Blackwidow over a Filco cause the cable setup with it makes it easier to use with my desktop. If I ever got a USB/headphone jack hub I would probably switch keyboards since the quality on this one is a bit lacking. Love the blue switches though, wish I had picked the same for my other board. And I hate the Razer drivers, haven't used em since Synapse beta. Deathadder good mouse and TL Goliathus just looks great.

Pity that most of razer/steelseries products are average at best..

What i mean is that their products are either overpriced or there are better peripherals at X price point. Still, i really like their involvement in esports since early SK and i support them occasionally

Razer sponsors so much stuff in esports in crazy. I guess that's the only why you get people to pay buckets of money for stuff that looks good but doesn't actually make you play better.

Isn't this true for brand marketing in general? Supermodels don't eat at Carl Jr's, LeBron isn't good because of the shoes he wears, etc, etc.

well props to razer for supporting so many teams, eg being just another to add to the long list of 'razer' teams. Awesome they support esports. Not gonna lie though i never saw this particular sponsorship coming.

I just bought some really nice dishes for our kitchen, recently They hold food about the same as my previous dishes and none of the food tastes any better. And they were WAY more expensive that the dishes we owned before. So yes, sometimes people buy things for aesthetic value alone.

"Things that look nice" happens to be a gigantic industry. Several industries, in fact.

But if you've never combed your hair, mowed your lawn, washed your car, picked out clothes, etc. then I suppose you are privileged in saying that those industries have no relevance to you at all.

Awesome. I was wondering whether I should buy another SteelSeries or a Razer to replace my half broken Sensei. I think since Razer sponsors both EG and TL there is no doubt its going to be a Razer :D

Its not just looks. Razer is top notch when it comes to ergonomics and their products are great value depending on what you get. The Blackwidow is one of the best value mechanical boards right now at the sub $80 price point.

Now if only razer could put together their products in a halfway professional manner so that you don't have to replace your blue-glowing heavily sponsored crap every year.

Happy for the mutual support, naturally. Razer's investing a ton into this industry; I can appreciate their dedication to the cause.

Expected but disappointing nonetheless. I hope the mice they decide to use won't randomly go offline every 30 minutes like my imperator did. Until I smashed it against a wall and bought a sensei. Good riddance.

Meh, not so impressed with this. I love SteelSeries and I'm really, really disappointed and sad to see that they switched sponsors.

Still love you guys, EG. But definitely gonna keep using SS gear. It's awesome. Also, don't like how Razer spells their name.

I highly recommend learning what "foobar" means before you try using it in any kind of context.

Or, alternatively, look up "FUBAR", which seems like the term you were trying to use, which is still a large stretch.

I'm still using an MX 510 as my main mouse. I've had it forever, must be like 10 years old, and it suffered quite a bit, but it's still working fine.

Yay another team sponsored by razor, really hoped they'd get zowie some international exposure, or maybe even logitech sponsoring another team.

Ah well doesn't change the fact that razer makes shitty equipment except for mouse pads.

My previous mouse was the death adder black edition and I strangely could never get its DPI settings to change. and a few weeks after I got it the scroll wheel up became buggy and would randomly register down scrolls while I tried to up scroll. pretty annoying and left a sour taste in my mouth for razer products.

Then at christmas, even though I didn't ask for one, someone got me a new mouse which happened to be the deathadder 2013. I've been using it for mainly playing counter-strike and the synapse software has been much better at letting me control DPI and other settings. The only complaint I have about the mouse is that out of the box it has a very serious bug I discovered while playing counter-strike where every 30 minutes or so the mouse would misregister and cause my view to instantly spin up towards the sky or down at my feet. a very bad thing to have happen in the middle of a firefight. after about a month of not being able to deal with it anymore I finally googled and found a pretty big thread about it at overclock.net. turns out that a few days before i found this thread razer released a firmware update that after i updated to has so far completely fixed the issue.

so since that firmware update my experience with the deathadder 2013 has been great, and my opinion of razer, which was initially quite bad, is starting to rise somewhat. we'll see how the mouse holds up long term. i still think there are better products on the market, but they're not bad. EG and razer actually seem like a really good fit though. neither is the best at what they do, but with a lot of money and marketing they easily win all the popularity contests

Meh, I own a BlackWidow. While it was nice the first 6 months, keys started sticking (no due to drink or food mind you) and the lettering is starting to fade. I'm not very impressed, the only computer peripherals I recommend to my friends are logitech mice. As for keyboards I don't have much experience with a variety of brands, but if they are all made of cheap plastic and start to wear down within half a year I don't have much hope.

A poster above said that computer peripherals targeted to gamers are mostly of bad quality seems to be correct, at least in my experience. More money spent on marketing and advertising than buying better plastics for production. Although the plastics bit can be due to factory managers cutting corners.

I'd take a logitech mouse over either brand in a heartbeat. My 50 dollar logitech has lasted me much longer than either my Xai or Deathadder did.

I laughed.

My BW had;

- THIN keycaps on the STEM of the keycap. Take a second to compare to quality keycaps and it is easy to see why they crack.
- THIN stabilizers, by design. again compare to a real Costar stabilizer and its obvious
- Keys that twist and rub other keys/just generally feel mushy, the stabilized ones... because of the above reason.
- Warped keyboard. The whole thing is IN THE AIR in the middle, the middle rubber foot doing nothing... big gap with the tables surface.
- They JUST this most recent redesign, got more than 2kro... (only 2 simultaneous key presses registering)

For the money there are MUCH better designs. I could go on with the cramped/weird F-row layout. non standard sized bottom row keys/spacebar. (which Das also has switched to, while still advertising the old design on the box)

Razer is just one of those companies people buy for the name/looks so they overprice the products, I agree with everyone else they make lackluster stuff that is pretty nice for the first 5 months or so or even less then they just break, not worth the price imo, But grats EG more money for them. I still think Steel Series makes far better products that last for years. Razer is kind like Alienware is to pc's they look cool, overprice, but they are not very good and can get better for cheaper.

Build a quality mouse without nonsense stuff like christmas tree lighting and buttons all over the place and I might buy it, I'm looking for a new mouse. You were on the right track with the Abyssus, great sensor and ok shape but the build quality is too low, it needs to be more rigid.

More dpi does not equal a better mouse, stop building products with useless features and start building quality products if you want me as a customer.

Razer is only worthy when you buy the top products.. The expensive ones. Never buy the cheaper products. I mean here in Brazil they have a pack which includes a Razer Cyclosa Keyboard and Razer Abyssus 1800 it was my first "pro gaming gear" and the Keyboard was terrible in every possible way... The mouse was a bit better but it has it's problems.

Then i decide to put my chips on Razer again when i bought my Razer Marauder and Razer DeathAdder. And i had no problems with them... The Marauder all of a sudden turns off here and there but is nothing terrible...

Razer should channel more money and wares into fewer teams.

Gratz to EG, I own an Abyssus, which works fine, except the annoying light that can't be turned off -.- Guess I'll have to break it open. It also isn't a very robust mouse but luckily I haven't smashed it yet

I mean... I turns it's lights off then you just have to hit a key to turn it on again. It's not a biiiiiiiiig of a problem. In overall i think it's a great keyboard...

Don't recall anybody having mouse or keyboard issues over the past 3 years from using razer products... if there are, no more than any other brand.

Yeah, I myself have a Leopold but almost all my friends have a Razer keyboard and they all swear by them. I won their first Keyboard the "Tarantula" in a contest they held, and needless to say it was pretty poorly made. I'm sure they have stepped it up now, but I have had the impression that they have gotten more and more gimmicky as they years have gone on even moreso than other companies. I was a huge fan of the Diamondback, but their newer products just seem like you are paying for too much stuff you don't need and not enough of the basics.

With that said, I appreciate any company that supports e-Sports, and although I am not the biggest Razer fan, I am happy they are supporting another big name team.

The Razer Black Widow is acutally a very nice keyboard. Wich one did you have?

I laughed.

My BW had;

What keyboard do you use now? how much better is the quality of the keycaps? Did you have the regular BW or the one with backlit keys? the backlit key version had better keycaps from my testing both.

Not sure is serious or just retarded?! Razer has terrible quality for its money. Its like alienware, way too overpriced hardware for Casuals who are just so bad, that they need to compensate it with overpriced hardware. They have keyboards for like 150€ - HAHAHA who is that stupid to buy that?

Razer is sponsoring alot of the major Foreign teams, it's just ridiculous. Steelseries has been sponsoring EG for a long time, I guess it was time to make a switch to Razer? Oh, well. Congrats to EG, anyhow!

In the 1.6 days I never, ever used Razer products. Now though, their buiod quality matches with the competition. Sure, they have a bit of a flashy "boy racer" type vibe, but I'm loving my Blackwidow Ultimate and Naga.

I buy Razer products because they do so very much to support the eSports community, so I do my best to support them.

Most Razer mice use basically the same sensors as Logitech uses in its gaming mice (both purchase from a manufacturer named Avago). The Naga is an exception, it used (if I recall correctly) a Phillips Twin-Eye sensor. While lower quality in many ways than the Avago sensors, it allowed Razer to produce a laser mouse with high DPI that had no mouse acceleration (something Avago sensors cannot do).

As for using some standard non-gaming Logitech mouse... actually, yeah, dirt cheap non-gaming mice usually last for a long time. But using them isn't as fun as using a good gaming mouse. Also, I personally hate the feel & shape of logitech mice.

You didn't understand the point he made. He said he buys whatever has the best quality for the money, whether it's some big name sponsoring everyone or not. He didn't say it's Razer, which is obvious to anyone who isn't completely oblivious to the internet.

I bought my deathadder for 40 dollars and it never breaks ever. I was going to upgrade to a Naga eventually but it seems like maybe I shouldn't? I loved the feel of it, sad to see it isn't durable.

Razer mice are like 80+ dollars and break far quicker than 20 dollar mice. Sure, shelling out the extra 50 dollars might be worth it if you really needed 7 buttons for your thumb, a built in strobe light, shitty RazeR programs for your computer and 13 different DPi settings of which you will only ever use 1. Razer is exactly like Alienware, very average/below average quality with insanely marked up prices because of branding and flashy logos. I'm sure the reason Razer is sponsoring so many teams is because no one would use their crappy equipment unless they were paid to.

I've had 5 Razer Deathadder mice, and they've all broken in a year (left-click will double-click on a single click, and doesn't stay down (flickers) when holding left-click down and dragging, scroll-wheel doesn't always register clicks), and I've had a steelseries mouse break within a year (same problem with left-clicks).

Razer and Steelseries both have decent designs and sometimes decent sensors, but their mice do not last long.

I'm always within the warranty, but I don't understand why they keep making shitty mice. Friends have not had the same problems with logitech mice.

My razer deathadder 3500dpi ed is still working perfectly after 3 years of use, just as my Razer Lycosa. The deathadder has been carried around in a bag for 3 years straight so I don't know how you guys manage to break it.

This is all used with my Alienware m17x which has the best quality feel I ever got from a notebook. Not only that the Alienware is not overpriced because if you are not stupid you put your own ssd and ram in it etc. + it got the best screen on the market + HDMI in (rare thing) + you can just upgrade the gpu/cpu if outdated.

stop saying this kind of stuff when you obviously don't know what you're talking about.

stop using your deathadders as baseballs? but seriously how do you break a deathadder. I had mine for 3 years and it never broke while also travelling with it. It still works perfectly.

No offense. But are you sure that you aren't the cause of the issue?

Btw according to EG.Krepo (LoL player) Razer is only the sponsor for peripherals for EG. Supposedly they announce a seperate headphone sponsor soon.

Absolutely not, this is a very common problem. Single-clicks will turn into double-clicks, and you will have to press hard to hold the left-click down.

I haven't met a person who hasn't had a problem with their lycosa. I like the feel of it but it fks up so much its kind of annoying.

It's a very common problem, I'm not only speaking from personal experience.

It happens with a lot of mice, not only the deathadder. But, the deathadder is not especially durable (no more so than any mouse, I think), and this problem seems to come about frequently.

It sounds like a problem with mice in general that are used a lot or are used to roughly. I have friends who beat the shit out of the Xbox controlers, but I dont have that problem and have never replaced one. All internet reviews should be read with the idea that "This person could be a moron" in their mind.

no youre not "lucky".its just that in threads like that evryone has to complain if something ever broke on him. and with razer beeing one of the first and biggest guys in this branch its obvious that ALOT of people had negative expiriences, even if the % of the overall broken products is the same. also as we all know people saying something negative always speak out while people with nothing to say cause there were no problems dont write anything.

i have my imperator now for 2 years. works and looks like on the first day. buddy has a first generation deathadder for years (and some razer mobo), other guy a first generation mamba. also no problems heared in all those years.

its no question that razer products are overpriced. but thats the marketing and shine to them, and thats the same for EVRY kind of product out there.

inshort, gz razer for sponsoring even more! people dont shy away from razer for "quality" reasons, all other reasons (price, shiny designs etc) are ofc fine

OP: It would be really odd to see EG without a peripheral sponsor lol. Im sure Razer is ecstatic to have EG with their products, Gratz to them.

I personally love my Razer Orcas and havent needed anything more as far as a headset. I also own a Logitech M125 (the one with the retractable cord lol) and always thought about getting a "gaming" mouse, but again, it performs perfectly and doesnt show any sign of wear with the use i put it through.

Been using a DeathAdder for about 3 years now and it is still working very well. Maybe I've just been lucky in that regard but I feel as though razer makes pretty solid equipment. My wife and I also just purchased 2 of the BlackWidow 2013 stealth edition keyboards during razers 50% off CES sale and were very impressed by the quality and feel of the product. Not to mention they are awesome looking with their green glow when playing in a dimly lit room.

Because you happen to know the timeframe in which his friend went through his deathadders, right? If his friend went through all three of those deathadders within six months, he either has issues with maintaining his equipment or the product is shoddy.

In 8 years of having my own computer i now own my second one (and its still working for everything i want to play, new games would probably run on medium settings okish)

In that time i have had 3 mice but only one was actually broken so i had to replace it.
Razer Viper (2005-2008 RIP)
Logitech MX518 (2008-NOW Still 100% working)
And a Razer Naga which was a present, i've used that mouse for about 5 hours after setting it aside.

I have been using this controller for seven years aswell:[image loading]

My Keyboard is 8 years old aswell.

The only thing which i replaced "frequently" where headsets, where i had three to four, they were of really poor quality and all of them together didn't cost as much as a "high-quality" headset.

If you are using your stuff carefuly i dont see a reason for it breaking that often, even if its in use daily.

The mouse is pretty good overall. Considering the amount of wear and tear I put on it, 1 day of gaming for me is probably equivalent to 2-3 days for an average gamer, so I am okay with putting more money for replacement mice.

Any evidence of this ? not because I an Incontrol fan (which I am not) , but because I would love if this was true

It's not true, don't worry. Just another hater.

Oh really ?

pls, i beg you, did you even listen to that interview? it was all a joke, i mean, just listen 1 minute before atleast to know that the whole interview was a joke. How can you take this even serious???

Not to mention the original claim was "after bashing Razer with every occasion" when only one or two exist in the years he was sponsored by SS

Yeah I don't post often here but I felt the need to after seeing people bashing the death adder. Mine has been working perfectly for going on three years now without a single problem. The only razor product I have ever had a problem with was my first gen carcharias headset, and I have since moved onto a Logitech g35. As far as key and mouse go, razer is just as quality as any other high end brand if you ask me, and no other mouse has ever felt more natural in my hand than the adder.

So yeah, they are good mice, but haters gonna hate of course.

I've had my deathadder for about a year and a half and for a 40 dollar mouse it's awesome. No complaints but we all have our own experiences and opinions.
