The real question is (to which the answer is 99% yes, imo) can they separate the two licenses into two separate accounts. Would be cool if there was any confirmation on it, though.

i have 2 copies and i honestly dont give a shit. Look at it this way: you now have 2 accounts (or more) to play on. 1 you can main ladder on and another one you can mess around with or try a different race

Ehehe, yes, well, I doubt you could give the answer to tying your shoes in the morning, very much less a topic on which you clearly have no information about, nor do you seem to have anything to do with. Which begs the question, why are you wasting precious internet space to begin with. Then again, I really don't want to know the answer.

For clarification, that issue, as well as the one regarding the future of the 'merged licenses' is pretty much still in the air, with 'official sources' providing conflicting answers or no answers at all.

Blizzard customer support seems totally confused about the matter. While some have got positive answers regarding moving licenses to separate B.net accounts, some customer support personnel just state that licenses are merged and are unwilling to move licenses to separate Battle.net accounts. Here is a fresh denial that I got from EU customer support after asking for moving my second regional license to another personal Battle.net account (have to reopen that ticket):

Time will tell how things go. At the moment the current technical implementation suggests that the licenses are simply merged and allow only 1 character profile per server. Not as many characters as you have regional licenses.

What are you furious about? You still have the ability to play on the exact same servers as before (your stats / progress has remained AND you can now just buy 1 copy of HotS). You haven't "LOST" anything - missed out, maybe.

If you really want another account it's $30. Add HotS and you'll have two accounts with 4 server options (8) instead of your original 3 if global play was not added. You're still paying less than you would for 3 copies of HotS.

Time will tell how things go. At the moment the current technical implementation suggests that the licenses are simply merged and allow only 1 character profile per server. Not as many characters as you have regional licenses.


Not really, right now I can still log to EU with 2 different screennames from the same account. I guess it's possible only in EU and KR (where language locked versions are available), but technically it works fine. The limitation is that there is no way to upgrade to hots on both so one of them will become useless on release date.

Update: After going back and forth with support over a span of about 8 emails (which it was a different person each time - kind've stupid imo) they have seperated my licenses into two accounts and I can now play on each server with two characters. Even after what Nony revealed about his accounts I've just decided to seperate them and guarantee that they haven't been lost, rather than have everything maybe disapear when HoTS goes live.

He has in fact lost 2 licenses for the game which is indeed "something" and not "nothing" as you claim. And guess what, not only has he paid those $30 that other account costs, he's paid $30 more than that.

Cheers yo, sounds similar to the experience I'm having. Seems there's a lot of confusion and a general mess, which is a shame. I'd let my 2 licenses on one account for ease of use, even if it would mean I had to buy one HotS for each of them, but I'd like them to clear this shit up among themselves and come out with a definite stance on this.

Yeah, surprisingly, when people buy 2-3 licenses of WoL anything, they feel entitled to not having them disappear. Idiots.

You are first one to claim that such is possible. You mean that you have 1x EU & 1x KR licenses under your same B.net account (same e-mail) and KR license allowed you to create a new character to EU server and can switch between it and your original EU character? Can you post a screenshot of the character selection feature on your login screen?

For example I currently have 1 x EU regional license and 1 x NA regional license attached to my account. If I use my EU client to access NA server it loads the NA character profile originating from the NA license. Similarly if I use NA client to access EU server it will load EU character profile originating from EU license. --> technically it seems they have 1 character profile per server limit regardless how many regional licenses you have. Also the licenses have been merged in the account management.

And indeed. Time will tell will they allow as many characters per server as you have bought regional licenses like e.g. the customer representative had speculated (not confirmed possibility) for NonY. Thought the current implementation of global play would suggest that only one character per server regardless of the amount of licenses attached...

If I recall correct Russians were originally sold cheaper Russian version that was valid only certain period of time (if not renewed) & could access only Russian server. And to get access to EU server you had to buy (or upgrade) full EU version? And when Russian server was merged into EU server this lead to this 2 EU licenses under one B.net account?

So they have technology to handle multiple character profiles per server, but it is unknown if they use it with global play. During this week Blizzard promised to provide information regarding WoL 2.0.4 patch, which will bring lots of HotS updates to WoL: http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/forum/topic/7909521034#1 It might provide more information regarding this case also.

yeah just need to have our voice be loud enough and actually get a solid response on that. at least get official clarification.

I know I have 2 hots beta accounts and can freely switch between them on the same account, not sure how that worked, but the technology is there.

I can't believe this of all issues has gotten me to break my posting hiatus but it was important to me so here I am.

I spoke to a Blizzard customer service representative about this issue, prepared to separate my accounts out if necessary, and was told this very probably wouldn't be necessary and that Blizzard would probably give me a satisfying outcome, although nothing could be confirmed/guaranteed at the moment.

I had two WoL licenses (one NA, one KR) on one b.net account, paid $40 once to upgrade that b.net account to HotS, and now have two beta licenses attached to that account. Each has its own SCII username and profile. Before I bought HotS, this account had no beta access at all.

This is what it looks like when logging into the beta:

I blacked out my b.net account, but as you can see below that field is a dropdown menu that allows me to select which SCII account I want to play on.

Given that this is how it is in beta and the promising prediction by the customer service rep, I suggest to people with multiple SCII licenses on one b.net account to leave them on one account. It seems likely that paying $40 once will upgrade all the accounts and each account will have a separate SCII profile. The alternative is contacting Blizzard customer service and having each WoL license put on a different b.net account, which guarantees that you won't have to buy WoL ever again, but also guarantees that you will have to buy a separate HotS license for each account.

edit: The customer service rep I spoke to was perfectly willing to separate my licenses out onto different b.net accounts. I see someone else has reported that they are not willing to do so. Maybe that is true now and it wasn't before. Or maybe there is some confusion in Blizzard's office and individuals are doing what they want.


The SC-I/SC-II is a result of you playing in the public test region I believe. I only have one region associated with my account, but I have two accounts in HoTS Beta as well both on the same email with the SC-I/SC-II, each with their own league and character name/id. Maybe you get it as a result of having two in a region as well though. It's been this way for me since when I played in the public test region.

I said this back on page 15, but nobody read it, so I'll say it again.

They're making changes to account signins across all three games right now. The latest World of Warcraft PTR broke account signins (bugged due to new changes) and added new client strings related to account switching. Diablo 3's patch 1.0.7 had the same changes made.

StarCraft 2 will get those changes in the form of 2.0.4.

I really wouldn't worry too much about this until it actually happens, guys. I'm 90% sure Blizzard is transitioning ALL games over to a new account login system (accepting logins from the Battle.net Desktop App).

Now got third response (opened the ticket originally few weeks ago) regarding splitting the license (2 regional licenses), if Blizzard only allows 1 character profile per server. Blizzard EU denies splitting. I guess have to wait some time if more info comes. And if the info is 1 character per server & the other license effectively removed (as 1 license gives same rights), then reopen the case. There is also Blizzard response on US forums regarding the issue to someone. It does not clarify what actually will happen. They once again say "StarCraft II Global Play provides players who previously purchased the game in multiple regions with an excellent advantage that they wouldn't have otherwise had: They only have to purchase one copy of the Heart of the Swarm expansion." But that actually is not an advantage at all if only 1 character per server is allowed, because it is effectively the same thing what would happen if you had only one license. And would require buying more WoL licenses (as only one of the originally purchased would be upgradable & others removed) if you want to get multiple HotS characters per server.
