Will "Sunfish" Partin here. Back in October, I published a series of articles on evilgeniuses.net about the social history of StarCraft (and eSports in general). The idea was that I would apply the principles of social art history to StarCraft in order to identify the concurrent social/political/cultural/economic conditions that affected the games creation and reception.
I had planned to publish one each week, but between classes, applying to graduate school, and other writing projects, I got off schedule and finally shelved the project after three articles (out of five planned). I link them here:
Part I: Introduces the idea of social history and how it might be applied to StarCraft.

Part II: A history of modern Korea and why it matters for StarCraft

Part III: Why Brood War could not be successful as an eSport in America when it was released

Now that the semester is over and my applications are in, I've got enough free time to revisit the project if there's enough interest. Does this pique anyone's curiosity? These take up a good chunk of time, and if it doesn't really appeal to anyone, I won't worry about it. But if people want to see me finish off the series, I'd be more than happy to.
