Correction: Daily ESPORTS mistakenly reported earlier that Jaedong would return to Team Eight immediately should they find a sponsor. This was a misunderstanding; Jaedong's 1 year period with EG is binding. |

You're not the only one, but the trend has become so common in SC2 that it's really tiring and pointless to even bring it up any more. Especially in an ocean of super hyped people posting in the thread. How does going EG means he's going for money instead of skill? Going EG is BOTH and that's why going EG is VERY attractive option. Before (1 year ago) it might be money, but now, it's clear that they're serious in SC2 and going all out. Team house in Korea and America. Top roster in the world. All they need now is a practice environment and with the coaches and team house in korea, they will try and copy the kespa team house practice regimes. They have the players to do it. They have the money to do it. They just need the right coach that will enforce a good practice routine within the team house. That we can't judge yet because they just started. Trust me, the EG-TL roster is serious about winning. I don't know why people are doubting their intentions and that they only signed on for money. Look at the current situation of esports. Any team can fold at anytime. EG offering their players good salary is GOOD! And at the same time giving them the resources they need to improve as a player! yea they're really serious about winning, that's why some of their top players aren't going to be playing in PL half the time right, along with no dedicated B-Team to grind practice games off of. BTW that last factor was the one that pretty much sunk T8, the team that was supposed to dominate PL when it was first formed ... and T8 was hella dedicated w/ their practicing. oh yea, and no experienced coaching staff lol. That's also gonna be painful. And the constant release of reps and streaming? easy target for KeSPA coaching staffs to dissect for a perfect counter strategy. I don't see EG-TL making it anywhere even close to playoffs. Totally agree, no chance in the long run with this half assesed attitude.
Coach Park isn't experienced coaching staff? Genuine question on this one. I was under the impression he was respected, and Ex-SKT1.

Park doesn't "coach". He's a good leader and team manager, not someone that can guide and develop players skill or strategy wise.

wait what? I was under the impression that Coach Park was still at SKT, just not head-coach (and he was an amazing coach to boot). Source?

How is it half-ass'd? Jaedong said EG had been in contacts with him since the summer and who knows how long they were in contacts with Kespa. That shows dedication to wanting everything to be perfect. They hired Hwanni, former SKT1 head coach, and bought a house in Korea so that they can be dedicated to being a force in the proleague. The blind EG hate really needs to stop. EG does some of the best things for the SC2 scene and people need to stop hating on them for stupid reasons.

I'm pretty sure It's not " the " Coach Park.

Not sure how to feel about this, but better to EG than remain in the depressed environment of T8. IdrA improved his ZvZ a ton since stephano joined. Who knows what happens now when they have JvZ on their team.

They must shit money with the players they have. Not yet, but we're looking into it. EG = The New York Yankees of E-Sports .... Sad thing is, EG is essentially doing standard practice for every sports team out there: making sponsors known, promoting their players, providing metrics for viewership/attention, etc. It's extremely unfortunate when you get called the "New York Yankees of E-Sports" for what would be the norm in any other established business market. I truly wish it were as simple as you've implied.
There's not doubt its a lot more work than it sounds. As a fan though, its been pretty painful watching how lopsided e-sports has been in the past few years. I've often wondered what made companies want to sponsor teams like Mouz and Quantic not because they didn't have good players, but because I didn't see what the sponsors stood to gain. Players and teams are advertisements for their products and I just haven't seen anyone really push their image and their sponsors like EG.

Everyone just ladders these days, unless people are preparing for a gsl match (and even then, according to many post gsl match-win interviews, lots of them just ladder anyway)

They are definitely not going to be laddering to practice for the Proleague maps, they will play inhouse games.

never heard of that dude lol. He might be the Special Forces 2 SKT coach, and they were pretty good.
But anyways, my assessment isn't blind in any way. I'm basing this off of Team 8, a lesson from the past. Team 8 had good funding (all players got raises when they contracted to T8 at first), top tier players (best team on paper), and probably the biggest desire to win it all. But they lacked depth (9 players, no B-Team. EGTL pretty much the same situation) and had a lacking coaching staff (head coach was also legendary ex-SKT coach Hoon, along with ex-Oz coach, but they sucked lol. No race-specific coaches too).
The B-team thing here is really really important, especially in a PL Bo7 format. Ideally, you want your line-up to practice that map and only that map along with only that one particular match-up. A decently sized team + B-team will allow for that sort of scenario. For T8 though (and ACE), players that were to be sent out couldn't focus 100% like that due to lack of players, and the results showed it.
Basically, that's the situation EGTL is in, and unless they raise funding to house/feed an entire B-team, they're fucked. Oh yea, and all the other points lol .. who knows, maybe they are really serious and will tighten up on those things. But unless they cover all those faults I mentioned, they're sure to be a bottom-feeder team.

I think all of what you've said is true EXCEPT that EGTL in general have waaaay more SC2 experience than the Kespa teams which should still play a factor in the first few months of this season I think.
With that said... I don't like their odds in the long run and they don't have the best matchups in this first match either...

Jaedong will have better practice partners in the EG-TL house than he does in T8. The only thing I'm personally worried about is all the foreign tournaments he'll be attending on behalf of EG. That can easily eat into his practice time and his play can deteriorate because of it.

so, is he going to work out then? Doesn't everybody do that in EG? Poor little JD. Muscles don't fit the overall Jea-composition.

All kill format is different then normal proleague format. In AK format you can play on any map any race, in this format they have a week to prepare for their opponent on 1 map. Much better to practice on that map then ladder and not play on that map at all.

They are given a map by their coach and they only have to play one game unless they are also the ace player. It's much more efficient to practice the one map you have to play than just ladder to practice in general. Lineups are also released early so they know who they are going to play against, then you get someone on your team to practice that one map nonstop with you and come up with good strategies. This is how the kespa teams do it.
If EG-TL doesn't practice the new maps they are going to get wasted by the teams that do.

Interesting how a non-ladder map pool will influence practice regimens. Haven´t thought about that, yet.
