Well, I'm guessing they're targeting a large foreign fanbase now that SC2 hasn't taken off so quickly in Korea. From a business standpoint, going to MLG is logical but somewhat risky because if Rain gets taken out during the Open Bracket, it would be really embarrassing for both Kespa and SKT.

Kespa is already sending 4 guys to MLG, Flash included. They will be the talk of the town regardless of Rain being there or not.

Holly shit people dont even look at this through Rains eyes. First of all the kid already plays for SKT1 I dont even think 80% of SCII only fans know what that means and maybe people need to wake up and figure that GSL, OSL even Starcraft itself isnt the most important thing to these guys. This is not like Federer forfeiting Wimbledon to play some invitational in China. This kid is like 18 years old, probably has never been out of Korea, Fantasy and Bisu went to blizzcon im sure they shared their experiences with their teammates. Why wouldn't a kid like that take the opportunity to travel to America, If it was the other way around and I was stuck In Canada my whole life, I dont see why I wouldn't take a trip like this to Korea or somewhere in Europe. The GSL and OSL will be around in the future, and yes so will trips to MLG, but Rain probably looked at that and choose that at this time he would rather go and experience a trip to America.

Imagine the reaction if a foreigner left code S to play through the open bracket of MLG

Well Stephano dodges Code S every season to "compete" in winnable tournaments.

True, but this is if Stephano told GOM he was going to play, got seeded into Code S, and then went, 'Hey, can I go play at this foreign tournament?' two days before his match.

Stephano always has the decency to decline.

Yes, people with bad moral and professional character are treated differently. More news at eleven.

TL will most likely make it 0 points.

Kespa/OGN/OSL > ESF/GOM/GSL
Kespa have done this in the past too, in BW, pulling players out, in order to diminish a league/TV importance.
Rain just won OSL, a tournament of mixed Kespa and ESF players, so he is the current best player. By leaving GSL he makes GSL look less legitimate than the OSL.

then why not pull out all the players? why not say he wont play his Code A match either? No one actually thinks GSL is less legitimate than OSL. Even Kespa players know they are still behind overall. They've even said so.

Idra had no problem with GOM because he noticed them way before his matches were played.

This is quite disappointing that Rain is forfeiting his Code S spot, especially since he performed so well last season. Oh well, hope he has a successful MLG. Sad, sad, sad

That's why they only pull Rain - because he IS successful enough right now to make Code S without him not legitimate.

The saddest part is that Rain himself is definitely f'd. He's most likely getting f'd at MLG too. And objectively right now he might be the best SC2 player, but these political games would sacrifice him for the greater goal.

People need to note and remember that SKT1 literally told GOM about this two days ago. That's the main reason I think this isn't just a simple schedule conflict, this is an intentional effort by someone to screw up the GSL. What's the excuse otherwise? "oh yeah we totally forgot about his date in the most important SC2 tournament, silly us!" I don't think so...
