Wow.. I laugh my ass off right now, americans trying to defend "slayers-trash". Of course Boxer has the right to get pissed off, theres no need to twist something. You might want to remember that it was 90% white people who went apeshit over "Nigger" (Orb/Destiny). So either you guys are the most hypocritical monkeys ever, or you seriously got something wrong in terms of who can be offended and who can not. Seems that you guys actually twist it how you need it. If my team gets insulted (and it was an insult, not a "joke", and genius took it exactly that way - or what would you call it if you call your friend "motherf'ing cunt", to which he responds with silence and leaving the room? I know some americans (mostly soldiers stationed here), and neither of them would assume that they were funny, or that this was "friendly banter").
Mindblowing, seriously.
Edit: + Show Spoiler + and i talk specifically about americans, because they were the ones going bonkers over that word.

Search up defamation, slander and libel. You'll see. I can use either three of them, both are correct nowadays. A while back, there was distinction between the three, those are blurred pretty much nowadays though.

Problem with analogy: Jessica and Boxer constitute the leadership roles of slayers, so they do represent slayers, where as one person does not represent an entire race. When an insult is directed at what you represent specifically it's very different from making a vague remark. If I made a remark @ a white teamliquid player by saying "TL is terrible" it's very different from saying "white people are terrible". In the former case TL does have a right to demand an apology or explanation, in the latter TL doesn't have to have a stance.

Gone to far off-topic.. Seems like this thread is going to be divided on the issue, no one going to break ground. + Show Spoiler +So... Let me get this straight, because you have your morale compass on your way it's ok for you to insult a persons belief and religion while not apologizing but not what, their feelings? Talk about double standard.
I live with the idea that we say what we mean, we joke when we joke. This synonym bullshit and happy double standards is what we have an issue with. What happened to honesty and bantering? I should apologize because it makes you feel better? MC should apologize because his joke with a totally different person made boxer (probably moreso Jessica) upset? Why, to make them feel better? He said what he mean't, in context. It's this dishonest feel good "civilization" that's the problem. Reminds me of that fat (yes fat, not overweight) girl who went on the news upset because she was criticized about her weight looking for some apology and then using her position to levy it in an even more morally offensive manner. To many double standards.
I guess I'll stay honest and say what I mean and joke when I joke while you can move around and apologize for words you said and meant at the time but were offensive to someone making you regret meaning them.

I don't see how it offends the team. He didn't say slayers was trash he simply said, genius, a player on slayers, was trash. When you say, "white trash," you're saying someone who's white is being dumb. You're not insulting all white people. And if you are white and are offended by that statement then you're drawing your own conclusions and thinking of implications that aren't necessarily true nor stated by the person who said "white trash." Certainly you can say "oh but racism!" but quite frankly that isn't the issue at hand and insulting someone with some more literal details doesn't seem to be racism in my eyes. No matter how you spin it, whether you will get offended in that situation. Fact is Boxer did get offended, and those are not nice words, apology from MC is needed. There's no fucking spinning, it's english, black and white. He is trash and he's slayers. You're the one spinning it and giving boxer a valid reason to be offended. I'm offended that your name starts with J, can you please apologize? My girlfriend got raped by someone whose name started with the letter J. Please apologize and change your name. Additionally, MC understands that there could be people like you who like to infer things and spin things and not take something at face value when it really is just that face value. MC via twitter: So i guess not leaving a practice match of an opposing team is not BM and my cursing out a friend in a friendly manner is. I apologize for insulting the team name but why did you not say something then instead of doing this over twitter? My ID starts with J, it is not bad words, so I don't need to apologize. MC's words are not nice though. And again, people don't get offended, that's fine, but if they do, then apologize, because his words are not nice. Why should you apologize for offending? Maybe we can start there, forget the part it was banter between friends and competitors, forget the part it was grossly taken out of context, why would I apologize for offending you? It's called civilization, we generally try to be nice to each other. I sure would apologize if I cursed at someone and he seemed offended. I however wouldn't apologize if I said something about for example religion, without cursing, and they seem offended. But that's because I feel I didn't do anything wrong. So... How does a comment in a random game get promoted ONTO Twitter? If you have a problem with friendly banter between players, talk to them personally.
Twitter isnt the forum for airing dirty laundry. Jessica is just trying to get one up on every perceived slight she has received in the past. and it's getting ugly, to be honest.

It's an argument from ignorance and it just shouldn't happen, either drop the topic and move into the debate or leave the thread.

Just saying that your original analogy isn't construed properly, I'm not going to argue about the decision of Jessica to air it neither am I going to argue about the decision of Genius or MC other than their direct consequences. They all had the right to do what they did but they all have to deal with the consequences.

I guess I'll stay honest and say what I mean and joke when I joke while you can move around and apologize for words you said and meant at the time but were offensive to someone making you regret meaning them.
Yes, because to me I'm not insulting them. I'm stating my reasoning, if that doesn't correspond to theirs, well, not much I can do about that. If they get offended when I tell them they're wrong, that's their own fault, not mine. If however I curse, someone can point towards the word and say, " hey I got offended by you cursing!", which in a civilized world is a no-go, thus I feel obliged to apologize. Reasoning against religion is not a reason to feel offended.
It has nothing to do with a feel good society. It's in fact social control, if we let people curse wherever and whomever they want, then we're nothing short of barbaric and assholes.
P.S. I'm not saying it's wrong to curse, nor against friends in some situations. But judging by Genius using "..." and leaving the game following the comment, I take it he was offended by it, BoxeR was offended by it, and so was Jessica. Thus then it makes a joke or no joke something to apologize for. Especially so if you want to remain on good terms with them.
