So many people just don't wanna pay money. Sad but true. Awful post. Apart from the obvious awfulness, people don't actually mind paying money. Just look at Dota 2 and LoL. Free to play games that rake in millions through micro transactions.

Thats like comparing ABC with HBO and saying welp, HBO is dead cause ABC gets much more viewers. Duh... it's free, anything thats free will attract more viewers. As long SC2 isn't P4F you cant and dont need to compare it with DOTA or LOL etc, it's useless data. Compare it with a other retail game and you will see, SC2 isn't doing that bad. He's not comparing game sales... He's comparing the relative success and strength of the communities. He's extrapolating that in 2 years SC2 will have stagnated or regressed while LOL/DOTA2 will thrive. It's not a farfetched prediction. I still watch a good amount of SC2, I pay for a GOM subscription and I would like to say I'm a SC fan. But the hard truth of the matter is, all my friends have switched to playing other games and after a while I followed them. Some are playing GW2, some play Borderlands2, a few play LoL and most of them play DOTA2. None of them play SC2 anymore. A couple might tune into a GSL finals or an MLG weekend but largely they have moved on to the competitive MOBA scene if they watch Esports at all. Even I, someone who has logged over 8k games of WoL over the past 2 years can hardly bring myself to log onto SC2. Yea I'll still tell my friends about SC2 stuff every now and then but when we actually game together we play DOTA. It's got variety and the items are a great incentive outside of stats for people to play games. SC2, just like D3 lacked re-playability for the average gamer which both of their predecessors achieved. It's really sad to realize how far Blizzard has regressed.

I think this is the only way to make a game into esports. The game should belong to community and only community should decide how to make it. Pretty sure Blizzard would be able to shut it down pretty hard, unless it was made considerably different. In a sense though, it already exists as SC2:BW.

For christ sake I'm playing a 14 year old game because blizzard is screwing everything up with the successor and I didn't even play it until after I had grown dissatisfied with sc2 and had heard a lot of great comments about brood war.

You misinterpretated the source. Saying "only really intrested in campaign" does not mean they never ever go online.

Nobody's complaining. Millions play it. game says 71k players online atm surely not millions are playing it. unless valve takes back on their word and make it f2p I doubt millions will play it. It really easy to get a beta key.

But in the end... Blizzard hasn't been the same company in a long time, and I don't care if I don't support them anymore... I won't be buying HoTS.

Na, they get al lot of hate but tbh the whole video gaming indsutry has been on a downslide. Take me back to the late 90's when a class game was coming out every month. Really was spoilt rotten during that period.

What I mean by that is, the actual game play isn't fun. It's fun to win and that joy lasts for like a second, but that's it.

Starcraft 2 is the more mechanically demanding game without a doubt, but it doesn't require you to be able to work with a team and coordinate well with other people what so ever either, which lol and dota 2 both do.

How exactly they shut it down if its not making any profit? Sue the community? Plus nothing holds us to rename Marine to Marinu!!!

No. The only thing Blizzard has copyright of, is the plot, sound and artwork. As it's a multiplayer game, the plot is not used. Sound and artwork just had to be remade, aswell as some unit names properly have to be remade to not infringe the starcraft universe copyright. Like Marine is okay, zergling is not... See dota2 for reference. The mechanics and gameplay is 100% possible to copy in a legal way. Just look at OpenTTD. You don't even have to remake the sound and artwork, if people reuse it from the original game. Again see OpenTTD for reference.

If SC2 was just another retail game, i wouldn't mind. BUT IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE THE CROWN OF ESPORTS!!! Games like these NEED to be just like another retail game (to lure gamers and create community around it) + the whole system of competitive ladder etc. designed for hardcore gamers and proffesionals. SC2 is completely lacking the first part (besides pathetic singleplayer) and seriously undeveloped competitive part.

They will debate, listen to valid points from people, then say no, and stick with their original designs. I'm not really sure that would be true, but it might help highlight problems and organise them for fixing in a way that actually makes more sense, rather than how much they would cost etc etc.... ...in the end we all want sc2 to be a success and for HotS to be an improvment over WoL, we just need to come together to achive that goal and we need Blizzard to be more open and transparent about how and why they do, or don't do with regards to sc2.

However, there are several million chinese players playing wc3 dota right this very second, either because they don't have beta yet, and/or because their PC's couldn't run dota 2, even if they wanted to.
