Wasn't a private conversation. Said on a live stream in front of a public audience.

It was bling's stream, not the HD MLG stream or something, not even an EG stream. And the backlash didn't come from this community, it came from a vendetta-motivated subreddit. You wouldn't have even learned about this if they hadn't spammed sponsors, forcing a move from EG which results in this announcement thread and all the other coverage (e.g. kotaku). And if you had learned about it, you wouldn't have cared that much despite except your personal opinion about Stephano. It wasn't actually a big deal before the vindictive sponsor campaign.

Really doesn't matter at all why it became a story. It's a story, and it would make EG look like absolute crap if they let it slide.

Personally, I'm glad he got suspended simply because he forced me to think about child sexual abuse. I've never understood people who can laugh with images like that in their brain. "LOLOLOL SHE'LL CARRY THE SCARS FOR THE REST OF HER LIFE." Pure hilarity.

He could have said "bling i just killed a guy (((((((((((" would that get you thinking that maybe murder is bad? He said something on battle.net. If the things he says aren't to your taste, you can just ignore him. You don't have to pay any attention to him. (You could also in the process realize a man is not six lines he says on battle.net.) Why do you need a player to be suspended from a video game team in order to evaluate the most obvious parts of your morals?

It was a troll/joke I can't believe people are getting so bent out of shape. EG did the right thing to save face for sponsors and give themselves a decent name. Realistically I doubt anyone at EG felt that Stephano did anything wrong except joke around on a streaming game. I personally don't feel like Stephano should apologize at all (if his "apology" is even written by him)

There is zero chance his contract doesn't have a clause that states he can't act in ways that reflect badly on EG. You couldn't even say that kind of disgusting junk while working at McDonalds and not get suspended. Stephano certainly can't get away with saying it in front of a live audience while being a highly public representative of EG.

Also please stop calling it a joke. He just blurted out that he abused a child. That's not a joke.

Yeah, think of the children. There could be 14 year olds watching and shitting themselves in fear at the possibility being abused by progamers.

My 14 year old child, almost certainly like the phantom girl Stephano was alluding to, doesn't exist. And if I were raising her in a jurisdiction where 14 year olds could legally give consent, I wouldn't use that as a reason to automatically hate someone she spent time with. I don't think that'd be healthy.

My personal belief they are calling it a joke is a cover up. There is really no way to know unless you ask Stephano yourself. Currently he is in damage control mode where he tries to minimize the damage from his mistake. This can be seen from his apology as he was rather quick to make one publicly. He is also not speaking about it any further because what he might say could make things worse. Joke or not you do not make those jokes when you represent a company with corporate interests at hand. I do not go into my office and make jokes about my sexual preferences or children/teens to my coworkers. If anything he should be thankful that he did not get kicked off as most people in the "workforce" would just get fired immediately. Esports is a very tolerant business and in the real world this would be many times worse regardless of country or nationality. Companies do not want employees who represent them poorly and could damage them in any way.

It could be the fact that 14 years and 9 months ago, I wasn't fertile or in a committed relationship with a fertile female. Not that what you said is logically relevant to anything.

no, they won't.

why? because eg is the most lucrative gaming team in america. they PRIDE themselves on their sponsorships. ANYTHING even remotely giving off a bad impression of them and therefore to the sponsors and the people who endorse them financially will be cut off and dealt with accordingly. eg is literally just another dog to these sponsors and will bend over at any given moment a main sponsor doesn't like something.

and to those thinking the technicalities of the laws differentiates is what matters, wrong. All that matters is, how it looks in the eyes of america / americans, since those are the ones who give money to the sponsors and thus back to EG.
let's take an exaggerated example as an analogy, let's say EG signed a player who, in another country murdered on a yearly basis. the murder itself is "legal" in the country for argument sakes. how does that look in our market? under our laws and morals of what's right and wrong? no matter what, at the end of the day the majority of us are under the impression it's "wrong" due to our (america's) law's.

now i know this example is way out there, but what i'm trying to portray is, it doesn't matter what we technically think is right or how his punishment should be, even if we are right and can read inbetween the lines unlike most. all that matters is the people who give EG their money, reframe from and any negative impression / damage done to reputation because it directly affects them financially, thus affects EG financially.

i always thought being a good parent precludes any concern of the effects of something so trivial toward their children.
but i guess a few sentences can erode good parentage to some.

Currently sponsors are what make the Esports world work right now. Literally there are limited number of cash flow channels available. You talk as if it is bad trying to please the sponsors so they can keep putting money into Esports. Remember that Esports is a growing business and as such needs to be treated as one. I already stated my points in a previous post but teams trying to set forth some kind of standard in the Esports world is admirable. A firm example is look at all the Korean teams and how they operate. Yes they might have some troll names in their lineups and quirky "ceremonies", but in the end they are very professional.

I'm sorry, how exactly will they regret upholding their reputation with their sponsors and sending a message to their player to better conduct himself? You do realize this is a business and the players are the image of the sponsor right?

And I don't see why you felt the need to write your post in bright red. You didn't even make any arguments.

Pro-Players are "Professionals" that must act like one. I also agree with your post that the players are the image of their sponsors.

EG and Root really came down hard on their players, Its good to see a high standard being set for the eSports players. I hope LoL call follow in the same foot steps. I havent seen remarkable behavior out of the pro LoL players lately.
