Yea refund now, when the whole SC2 community saw how shit this situation is.
it's still better than just doing nothing at all, shows she's willing to "fix" things or somewhat regret it
she could have just disappeared...
Or she's smart enough to see there's still a way to salvage the situation.
Just like the pathological liar she is she'll always try and continue the charade because to her it's a zero sum game.
We all know that one guy who piles on the lies and even when he's found out he tries to pile on more to try and salvage the situation.
who cares if she's lying or what her motivations are, she's refunding people... what the fuck more do you want
Burn the witch!
lol. but how do you know she's a witch. she turned me into a newt.......i got better. =D

Where's the proof? All we have is one print screen.
Who's to say she won't weasel out of this situation then do it all over again? Except this time she knows what people are looking out for.
I believe that forgiveness is something everyone deserves but she's not going to be that from the community for a while.
However, in my own words, at first, I thought Veralynn was offering free coaching, then suddenly she started charging even before joining Six Pool Gaming. I'm surprised to learn that DeathAngel did all the dirty work for her in online tournaments & showmatches.
This scam is totally unacceptable in eSports. So I wanna say great job to Gretorp, KR, & desRow for revealing this fog of fraud. I salute you!

This is the key. You can't refund everyone once you get caught and say "hey look I refunded everyone, we're cool now, right?". That's insane.

Her statement kinda leaves a bad taste in your mouth though, the way shes claiming that she was trying to "grow esports" with this. Growing esports by paying deathangel to win an all girls starcraft cup then going on an online interview and bragging about who she supposedly beats on ladder? The showmatches? The only thing she was trying to grow was a massive epeen and now the betrayed community wants to see it castrated haha

Paying the money back doesn't rectify anything. You clearly had no intentions to refund the money if you weren't caught. It's basically the equivalent of stealing from a bank, getting caught by the police and then giving it back to the bank and going "oh look I'm not guilty of taking money from them financially because I gave it back!"
Veralynn in my mind is clearly the larger culprit here as she had more to gain than just a monetary standpoint. DeathAngel was clearly just doing this from a financial perspective which is still wrong but much more forgivable, as Veralynn clearly has some sociopath tendencies to be able to willingly let someone pretend to be them to gain reputation and fame. She is even handling the apologies like a pathological liar would.
To even be able to go and do and do hour long interviews pretending to be the 'first female grandmaster' just show's how disgusting she is as a person.
Growing e-sports doesn't involve lying about your actual rank, and cheating in tournaments and showmatches. You knew full well what you were getting yourself into. You did this for yourself and your own ego. If you knew it was a terrible idea, why did you cheat other legit players out of money and fame several times? Because you loved the attention, which can be seen by your arrogance and bragging in interviews. You are very self-centered and I'm not buying your "apology".
Doesn't really matter too much what her motivations were. She knew full well what she was doing was wrong at the time (both of them did). They broke the communities trust with them. None of us need to "buy" their apology.
While that is true, I can see that she didn't quite realize at the start just how negatively this would impact the very thing she was trying to help (or so she claims), e-sports (hind sight is 20/20, we know how bad it was now, its a lot harder to see the impact in the moment but still, not excusing her, just mentioning). If she does really return the money, and in turn proves she never got any of the rest she says DA kept (thus proving is was not in fact for the money - as is clear she is loosing out if all this is true, and based on DA's most recent statement it prob is at least somewhat true - her side that is), then i say DA is almost more at fault here... I dunno, this all sucks
So lets see here. We have one person who is honestly taking this as a big joke (DeathAngel, language barrier or not, you are coming of as VERY immature), and we have a second person who honestly seems sincere in what they are saying. The are both obviously not in the greatest mindset to try and pull a rather clever stunt........but ultimately it seems like DeathAngel is getting the better end of the stick here.
What does his team have to say about all of this though? Or is he even on a team?
Of course it's not all "cool" that she's now refunded all monetary gains she's acquired through deception, but the point is she's trying to right her wrongs, and that's commendable.
I'm nobody, just a bystander who happens to stumble upon this thread today, but I forgive you Veralyn. Hope you learn from your mistakes, we all make them, and move on to be a better person.

I agree she's been a scumbag in this situation, and she shouldn't be trusted in the SC2 community again, but at the same time I am glad that she is refunding money as opposed to disappearing completely.

Uh oh.....hope DA will turn out alright. Seems like the issue has practically been settled already after she already admitted it, but hope the consequences won't be necessarily career-ending for anyone here.
Maybe it should be for one or both of them though.. given the depth of this whole thing and the amount of people effected. Also for DA to come here and give some/a lot of misinformation.. just all gets a lot worse.
A lot of people are very relieved, in spite of their initial reactions of panic, anger, and shame, when they get caught in a lie, because the lie has become so burdensome they just wish they could make it go away. The pressure mounts to where they are punished more by their own guilt than anything anyone else can say. Whether or not that specifically applied to Veralynn, I cannot say, but I've seen a rather ugly sequence of people calling her out for not making a public statement. Then when she does, they assume she's lying, even though her post was far more mature than DeathAngel's. Then she posts an image of her refunding prize winnings, and someone says something amounting to "too little, too late."
No doubt this would have continued if not for KawaiiRice and company, but if someone apologizes and tries to right their wrongs, there's nothing more you can realistically ask. Staying angry after that point will end up hurting you more than the original offense.

He was given opportunities through Veralynn to do some showmatches, and he was previously denied them because he wasn't popular enough. Although since Veralynn was a girl, she was given such an opportunity. However, it only makes it more difficult for him now for his future in eSports. But I am a bit impressed that he had some good showmatch results against some more well known players like Ziktomini and Sjow. I guess this is the reality that eSports is a business and there is some talent out there that just can't be shown because its not possible.
You pretty much just described like 10 Australian players.

Jesus. If I ever steal something from someone as soon as I get caught I'm just going to hand it back and then everything will be cool.
Seriously, this girl is a pathological liar. I honestly think if she was a male you would all be much more harsh on her.
