As emotionally invested as people are on this topic, TL rules still apply. That includes flaming and ad hominem attacks. |
Being aware of all the recent dramas surrounding Destiny, I genuinely think the punishment towards him is way exaggerated. What we saw on his Twitter and FB accounts isn't that big of a deal and definitely not worth banning a player from a team.

Dejavu????!!?! Am I psychic and foresaw the future or did this already happen where ROOT dismissed Destiny with the exact same message either last year or earlier this year??
I'm so confused - major dejavu.....

This stuff seems tame compared to other things he has done where people stood behind him much more firmly than this time.
I'm also fairly sure that being kicked off Root does zero to hurt him, and zero to help Root.
He was kicked because the sponsors didnt want to take any risks with the situation (they got negative feedbacks and such), which is understandable from a buisness point of view. Root was then forced by them to drop Destiny. Well duh, but what is the event that we're talking about? Sponsors don't want personal chat logs of their players released. That's how 20-somethings talk, and what they talk about. I dont think he was kicked for any specific action on his part, rather because he is a notorious drama magnet who gets into the kind of drama that could potentially scare off sponsors/develope a bad reputation for root. Destiny turned himself into a liability through the kind of behavior that most of us grew out of at around age 16-17 so he got the boot, thats all that happened. That doesn't make sense either, unless there was a new sponsor that came on after Destiny got back on Root.
He was kicked off because of a shitstorm started on Reddit. Lots of people sending e-mails to the sponsors complaining about his behaviour, I would imagine this includes him sharing the nude photos and that the dick photo posted on Twitter had a t-shirt with ROOT's logo on (at least from what I understand, I didn't see the photo). Since a lot of peolpe seemed upset they figured he was åputting their brand in bad light, whether his actions were all that bad matters less.

If you read CatZ statement i get the feeling its the future investments into the team is the main concern not so much the present sponsors. but i guess cloudninelab or what ever the name of the company was is having a bad day cuz of the current drama. That and my previous post about the team color thing.
The response from cloud9lab was kinda funny but stupid don't piss on the MOB-bomb it will explode.

They just decided that enough was enough and he is hurting their image for fans and sponsors, why keep him on their payroll to attract negative attention?
I'm just saying that they knew who he was when the signed him. An umpteenth reddit shitstorm shouldn't have affected their views of him. I just find it strange. None of this surprised me, or altered my view of Destiny. If you hated him already, you were going to start internet nerd raging, emailing sponsors, if you liked him already, this probably wasn't going to change your view either.

I would imagine that this shitstorm was of much greater proportions than earlier ones (possibly aside from the on big racial slur drama).

Destiny wasnt kicked because a sponsor said he has to go, he was kicked because Catz had to make a risk/reward decision on how destiny would affect the team in the future.

I get all that, I'm just asking why now? This isn't the most controversial destiny thing by a long shot.

It may not be, but it's the most controversial thing Destiny has done while under the current ROOT, AFAIK.

Well only root management knows for sure but my best guess is that they wanted to get rid of him now before he attracts the next wave of hatred and sponsor writing dicks that could cause headaches for root management and sponsors, and root just doesnt need that as a new team with few sponsors. I can only guess that they cut him loose because he consistently attracts drama which spills over into managements lap, and they dont want the next episode in the destiny dramatic miniseries to be a serious problem.
Also im sure catz is accutely sensitive to the issue of sponsors because root v1.0 failed for a lack of them.

I wonder how long this thread is going. o_O

There's probably no escape from sponsor writing dicks. I wonder why they seem have so much power with gaming equipment companies, maybe because they're so small.

The "politically correct" shit is so unnecessarily overdone. And often done more than not by hypocrites. All I've seen are a bunch of kids that run to sponsors and whine everytime something supposedly offensive is said.
Yep. Gets really tiring having 90% of TL white knight everytime someone does something supposedly below their moral radar. Quick note guys, not everything you see in life will be based on morals, I suggest you get used to some of this stuff fast.

The true bad boy of esports has arrived ppl

"In the last incident that Steven was involved in not long ago, our sponsors received a lot of negative feedback through e-mail about the whole situation"
Wow, so people realy do write mails to sponsors to complain about a player? This is realy sad and off course bad for esports. Complain to the player, or the team manager, complain on tl or where-ever you like, but dont go mail sponsors with your complaints >< Hope people get this.

The true bad boys of esports are either NaNi or Stephano. Maybe both.
I feel bad for Destiny though. I have been a fan for a long time and I don't think he deserves this kind of backlash or hate. If you don't like him, just ignore him. I mean, people who emailed ROOT's sponsors didn't gain anything but Destiny lost his job.

yep you've got people trying to ruin someone else's life by trying to cut their funds and they think it's fine, but don't you dare tell a girl she's ugly, what a terrible person that makes you

Damn hopefully it goes well for destiny:/
