I think Naniwa is top 10 protoss and Stephano is below DRG, Nestea and Symbol, maybe Life, Sniper and Violet as well, but very close. There are so many up and coming zergs in korea that Stephano can't afford to slack if he wants to stay in top 10.

I think should stop talking about Stephano on a DRG/Nestea post, as fun as this has been :p.

I'll admit I've been pretty tough on Stephano here; he is a very, very good PvZer. We'll have our differences on his ranking, however.

edit: also, i'm too lazy to look up the total record of those two but i'm pretty sure MC had 8 wins before their bo9 series.

Naniwa has always been "keeping it real" - as you put, even back in the WC3 days. He always spoke his mind and showed emotions (mostly rage) without hesitation.
However I do not remember him being disrespectful or overly arrogant. If he said something which might have been mistaken as disrespect, it was in the end just what he thought - without any intention to insult somebody.
When he said he would win something, he did so because he was confident and because by rather objective judgement from his perspective would predict so.

The way DRG was quoted in this interview do not only resemble confidence, but arrogance. That is how I feel. The unpleasant thing about this is that I perceived DRG to be a nice guy. Either the interview is a tad misleading or DRG has appearantly changed for the worse. May be too much succes gotten to his head? No idea.
But saying finals is no problem (This upsets me more than the Naniwa part tbh), is plain cocky.

The point is not that DRG behaves like this, but the fact that he seemed to be a nice, friendly guy - which totally contradicts the things said in this interview.

Also I am pretty sure it's confidence, it's DRG facing a foreign toss naniwa who's weakest match ups is PvZ. DRG is the best zerg player in the world right now with symbol being a close 2nd. He has every right to be confident, but to see what you just said O_O.


Okay, then I will be a bit more precise. If you are arrogant, it imo also involves looking down at others and believing in your own superiority. I really believe that whenever one perceives Naniwa as acting arrogantly, it is rather a lack of mannerism and self-control, than real arrogance or disrespect. If he says something along these lines, it seems (at least to me) that he does so out of emotions or because he objectively thinks so. When he says "I will win" or "I should win the tournament" it is probably because he considers himself to be in a good shape and his opponents skillwise inferior. But I do not believe that involves arrogance or disrespect.

When a once humble and nice DRG says something like "Finals should'nt be a problem" when playing in the hardest and most prestigeous SC2 tournament, it is imo no objective assessment of the situation. Sure DRG has a pretty good shot at winning the whole thing, but players have time to prepare and we have seen how PvT god Parting fell to MVP when had already claimed victory before the series had even started.
"I have good chances to make it to the finals" VS "Finals are easy peasy, np." See the difference?

I guess by your logic, Naniwa has been an angel his entire time since he's such a nice and honest guy. I can't believe you actually said you don't remember a time naniwa's been disrespectful or arrogant, or when the 100s of examples are brought up you try to hide behind a non-intent excuse. What DRG said is benign compared to what naniwa has said his entire career. No point in debating someone with such a viewpoint.

I like to give naniwa a little more credit and think naniwa knows exactly what he's saying and knows he's being disrespectful and arrogant, but he just doesn't care what others think about him.

See the diffrence b/w my stance and yours? You think naniwa does it unintentionally, so excuse his behaviour, while I think he does it intentionally because he just doesn't care what others think of him, so has no filter. Also, I don't care about the naniwa examples you gave such as "I will win" or "I'm going to win" this tournament because I don't really consider those things that arrogant because everyone thinks they're going to win a tournament and no one says I'm going to lose a tournament or I'm going to lose this match.

When I talk about his bm, I'm talking about things like how he tried to get nightend kicked from his team, how he called MLG a joke tournament live on stream, etc.

I don't think Naniwa is better than Genius, even if he beat him several times head to head. That's not how you determine who is a better player. Genius' PvT and PvZ is better than Naniwa's IMO, and his PvP might be better as well (he outplayed Naniwa in the final match but forgot colossus range, Naniwa should have died).

I also think Puzzle and Hero are better well-rounded, even if they aren't currently in ro8.

DongRaeGu knows how to work a crowd and make everyone excited for a match, kind of like boxing or pro-wrestling. So does Naniwa, who even admitted that rivalries make fans interested in upcoming matches.

DRG, Nestea, Symbol, Violet, then a toss up between Sniper, Shine, Revival who have all been extremely good lately. Stephano is a top foreign zerg, but he doesn't do very well against mid-top tier Koreans.


I looked at Stephano's top 3 tournaments (in terms of monetary earnings): IPL 3, ESWC 2011, and IPL 4 Qualifiers.

The only top koreans he faced in each tournament were:

IPL 3: can't say any were top tier, best was TheStC
ESWC 2011: Marineking
IPL 4 qualifiers: TAiLS was the best

Honestly, I like Stephano, but the notion that he's one of the best players in the world is unfounded.


He places top 5 in every major tournament except GSL bro. He's a top 5 zerg, if only he wouldnt party so hard on saturday and be completely hung over for sunday =[

Also somebody said they are mad at DRG for being cocky and that hes changed on us. Actually at MLG Columbus he was asked if the Kespa players would ever be better than him in Sc2 and he said "No!! never" and he also said that he was going to take that championship and MKP was his only competition.
