Day9 is not casting because he will be competing in the Open Bracket. (obviously)

The whole "Day9 Daily" was just a very elaborate ruse to get a bunch of top pros to send him their replays so he can snipe them out of the open bracket :O

I don't particularly care what level Day9 plays on, although it would be nice if he streamed himself laddering every now and then. Other casters do it, and the world doesn't end. But that aside, I, as a mid-Masters player on EU, Day9's "analysis" (while casting, since I haven't watched a daily in a long time) feels very insubstantial to me. It's like Cloud said in his vlog, Day9 concentrates on random stuff which is often barely relevant to how the actual game plays out, and in the process misses the important decisions and details of execution that make one player win and the other lose. As opposed to Khaldor and Wolf for example, wherein I always feel like they're focused on the meat of the game, even if Wolf calls every battle incorrectly.

Maybe Day9 does understand the game well, but his casting comes off as "The Sean Plott Show, featuring SC2 in the background". And I feel like the amount of "No Day9, not watching" sentiment in this thread supports this idea. His fans clearly prefer to watch Day9 play Skyrim over the world's best players competing in SC2 in one of this year's largest offline tournaments. So in that sense, he's like the reverse Husky.

I really hate going off topic in this thread but what kind of things do you consider random and barely relevant that Day 9 focuses on during his casts and daily streams?

I'd have to rewatch some vods in order to offer proper examples, but here's something from Red Bull Battlegrounds that immediately stood out as random and irrelevant. The game was Thorzain vs Sheth, I believe, and Day9 suddenly started talking about how amazing Thorzain is with distributing his workers among bases. Then the observer proceeds to show Thorzain's bases, and it's immediately obvious that Thorzain just did the same thing everyone else does - got up to optimal saturation on his main/nat, and rallied his CCs to his third's minerals.

He's kind of like the Paulo Coelho of sc2 casting, really good at creating an illusion of depth.

Also, a friend told me Sundance hates Dutch people and that's why Rotterdam isn't casting. Damn you Sundance, so unprofessional.

Sundance hates 2 types of people in the world: People who hate other people due to where they are from and the Dutch.

So uh where is Day9? Kind of a huge blunder by MLG, definitely knocks the tournament down a few notches to not get him.

I'm guessing Red Bull Battlegrounds is a more prestigious tournament than the GSL in your own, special world.

Lmao, another who says this. Day9 not being there does NOTHING to affect tournament quality. I get liking casters, but being so in love that if they don't go to an event you think it will be a few notches worse...man. I could even appreciate if there were 0 good casters and everyone was suprised but we have like the best casting lineup i've ever seen here. Just deal with it, and talk to Day 9 and tell him to actually cast events which may not have him as the centre of attention. I doubt you'll be successful.

What if he said "No, I have other plans. I need to take a break and have a few meetings that week. Thanks for the offer". Why would that be MLG's fault?

I hope they have backup nerds again. Tasteless seems to relish in throwing the commentary over to the back up nerds for some extra insight. It's very cute.

I'm happy we'll have a major MLG tournament without Day9's ego filling the streams, but now there are not enough analytical casters.

Apollo and Artosis out of 8 "Premiere" casters is not enough, not in the slightest.

Apollo+Artosis+Wolf+Khaldor would have been perfect. Or a player casting, anything to give us enough analytical caster to prevent the aberration that were pairs like JP+Simpson or Simpson+Husky at the previous arenas.

Day[9] should be there... one of the few current SC2 casters who is fully capable of BW casting too, and thus analyzing the Kespa players well.

To me the show event with the Kespa stars is ranked way above the main MLG event, it deserves top quality casting. So, with this list, it must be Tastosis all the way.

Why? Because they were good and famous in BW? Way to be objective dawg.

They have Masters level play with made-up metagame and 2010 level of timings.

Even the back-up 3rd/4th stream casters would have been enough to analyze those games.

Rotti isnt playing, hes leaving the USA. His VISA expires the day before MLG. I didnt think Day9 still had so many fangirls. He was great in the beginning but i wouldnt even put him in the top 5 for casters in the past year. Im sad Rotti wont be there though. Theres tastosis for the bw too...

So many casters and streams... it seems excessive to me.

Gonna be sweeeet.

Casters without BW expertise would not be able to analyze their games properly, and give insight as to why they play certain "odd" styles in SC2.

A protoss going Roach Hydra Corruptors in PvZ, a Terran having no siege tanks when a Muta/Ling/Bling timing comes, has nothing to do with being influenced with BW.

Not to be rude towards them, but they play certains odd styles because they don't know how to play the game yet, and not because they have influences from BW.

But since the demand for "BW-pros playing SC2" is so high, they'll make them play eachother anyways,

Ther's a reason why they just didn't seed them into the Open Bracket but made them play just between themselves.
