So HotS brings all / most of the features that we wanted in Battle.net. Somehow I'm not surprised. I think a lot of people underestimated Blizzard in them not knowing how to make a functional B.net and I'm convinced that many features were left out intentionally to serve as a selling point for HotS.

Wow, huge props to blizzard. I wouldn't trust any other company to make a game like StarCraft. Really excited about all the planned upgrades.
You mean I just write stuff here and other people can see it?

I wonder how long it would take the Blizz to develop all these features they're promising from scratch. Can any professional software developers/game developers comment?

Basically I'm curious how long it would have delayed WOL if these were implemented before release.

Development is very hard. A game is "content" locked almost six month or more before release. This means all the features that they have in the game are locked in. The rest of the time is spent polishing the game and making it super crisp. SC2 may be an exception when it came to the multiplayer units and balance, but the B.net features were likely locked in 6-10 months before release. Adding new ones would have required more polishing and bug testing, which increases the QA time(quality assurance). The more features they add, the more time they have to spend testing them all. I don't know how much time these features would have added, but it would have been a noticable amount, since they were focused on getting the ladder working and a world wide launch.

Huge step forward for Blizzard. The ability to eliminate the problems of dropped players during tournaments isn't quite as good as LAN but definitely the next best thing. With Blizzard though, I'm going to expect maybe half of this list to be running with HOTS, and will hopefully be pleasantly surprised if it all goes live.

Essentially, this is all the stuff we've been asking for.

Aside from LAN, which I don't care about that much and understand why it's not there, yeah. I'm so happy that Blizzard is adding all of those features, shows that they listen :D

I'm confused about multilanguage support though, we already do have translated clients, is that just adding the ability to switch languages in-game like in the WoW beta/PTR clients?

Basically yeap. The BW teams wanna play on English version and an in game choice is way better then messing with files.

So basically what I understood from this is that BW pros and KeSPA had a huge part in this. I bet they conditioned Blizzard to make this stuff. Also GOM, Mr. Chae to be exact, complained in a interview about Battlenet feeling empty and said they influenced Blizz into making a lot of improvements map wise. Judging by that I can see that as the most likely scenario of what happened.
sorry for dem one liners

You're a paralegal, not a software dev >

Thanks for the insight. So if we wanted some medium-big feature upon seeing the HOTS beta, I guess it likely won't make it in due to logistics.

Blizzard is so smart. Release WOL missing tons and tons of features, people will play because its SC2. People start getting bored and anticipation for the expansion isn't high, decide to release all the features the first game should have came with, met with applause for "listening to the community". Sorry guys maybe I'm just a cynical prick but all of this should have been in the game when I bought it over two years ago. At this point its hard to get excited about them including everything that should have been included from day one.

Also still no LAN. I don't care about it but a lot of people do.
