Through a deal facilitated by the support of two Google employees, pro-gaming team and media production company Quantic Gaming has acquired the majority of Team Vile’s StarCraft 2 roster, becoming one of the largest pro-gaming teams in the StarCraft 2 eSports scene.
The acquisition sees Quantic’s roster rise to 17 members, picking up the following Team Vile players and effectively saving a team that has been undergoing major management restructuring:
Following management shake-ups in Vile Gaming, it appears the roster has moved with the current NA roster setup of Quantic Gaming. They will be financially backed by two Google employees named: Ian Gulliver and Stephen Gun, software engineers for Google.
The article goes on to interview the story of these engineers, their emotional and personal involvement with the Vile-now-Quantic roster and what lies ahead for both interested parties.
edit: to note: Vile Yong are not found on the list.
That's awesome, there were some serious upcoming talents on Vile's roster so hopefully Quantic can afford the investment for them to take it to the next level.

QxG is only 3 letters tho :D
They're not using QxG anymore, they're using Quantic.
Quantic has saved PsY, who is pretty much just a figurehead for the team who doesn't really play (I love PsY, but let's be honest here, he is not a "progamer" in the sense of going to tournaments and all that)
And yet, why is VileYong not on that list? Was he no longer part of Vile? AM I MISSING SOMETHING HERE?

You might be pleased to know that vileIllusion =/= oGsIllusion
Anyways, this is a freaking huge pickup for Quantic. What a gigantic team now!
Sad to see Vile go, but happy to see a nice merger.
Ummm... how about "QIllusion" or "QGIllusion?"
And PsY, my favorite... see, Quantic needed a BM zerg But he'll be great for putting Quantic's players on the map by casting their games on his Youtube.

We need more teams that is pure talent teams. That will let players evolve. or at least that is my understanding of it. Most teams now are only picking up Koreans or established foreigners. Vile was one of the last talent teams there is.
Does this mean the vile guys are going to get a chance to go to Korea? Hope it opens up some opportunities for them, they're pretty stand up players and some of them could get really good.

Illusion is maybe the biggest foreign talent there is. Ddoro is pretty good, Chance, Hawk, state. But yes i do agree the rooster is most likely to big and some will be cut.

Big congrats for all the parties involved this is great; altho its sad to see vile vanish
Wow yeah crazy being backed by the Google employees but big thanks to them for not letting Vile disappear completely!! And i'm very happy to see that they kept everyone (mostly) on the team. I will always be cheering for team Vile members no matter what team they're on.
Hope this means that Spanishiwa gets back in the saddle and that we see him at some tournaments again soon. Don't think I saw him in the Spring Championship list but maybe he'll be around for Summer?

No i think that many team colors are Red and not many are Green. Vile had green in their team colors, Quantic does not. It has red. But yours might make sense too, though Quantic DID pick up a talent team according to you so not sure.
Sad to see Vile go, but I'm really happy that Illusion teamed up with a big team like Quantic. Really think He has all the potential in the world, and this should only help bring more opportunities for him! GL to both the old and new Quantic players!
Also its incredible that a couple of guys at Google have so much passion in this game to support 17 people in this game that we all love. It just blows my mind that people are willing to do that for this game, and its examples like this that makes me believe that SC2 will grow to be as big as BW was in Korea, except for all around the glove!
Very much reminiscent of the ROOT pickup by Complexity, it's hard to see a staple of the NA Pro SC2 scene gone, but it's great for the viability and stability of the players.
It's sad that more people are posting in the "Destiny leaves Quantic Thread" than this one. This is really exciting. It'll be cool to see what Illusion or State or HasHe can do on a team capable of sending them to Korea to work with Startale, NaNiwa, and SaSe.
But hell yeah. Vile has some very good foreigners but they lack the pro-scene exposure quantic has. And LOL @ "Destiny's pay being able to afford a team" joke xD
QxGIllusion, thats a sick pickup. Shame for the death of Vile, it's good to have teams that raise up new talent, but at least the players have found a good home.

Highly doubt Illusion will go to Korea, unless its purely for summer break. He is still in high school after all!
Wow. Big news! I was wondering what was happening with my beloved vile, but I'm glad to see everyone landing on their feet! I'm very excited by the Quantic lineup now. Stacked team!

Don't read too much into the post count. Controversy, but nature of being controversial, will always generate more discussion because people have disagreements, discussions, arguments, etc. This is clearly the more exciting announcement, but there isn't as much to argue over to get the post count up. It doesn't mean people don't care
It Honestly is a shame destiny left before this aquisition. With the Quantic lineup being this broad and the partnership with Startale, we might be seeing Quantic join GSTL with Liquid and Fnatic in a few seasons.
I must say this is quite the acquisition for Quantic. I look forward to how this new addition to the roster pans out, thus far it seems like both sides win: Quantic with some new blood in the team and Vile gets some structure that it was lacking before.
Shame to see Vile go, they were a great underdog team. Gotta worry that they'll lose some of that in the transition, and that some Vile players will get buried in the expanded roster and get less chances in team leagues etc.
Wow, what a rollercoaster couple of days for Quantic... This is really really really cool though. + Show Spoiler +
Hard not to expect this number of players being a problem in the long run though. Sounds like a logistical and managerial nightmare for such a focused and involved team, even if the finances are in place. I hope I'm wrong though, Quantic fighting! ^^
Am I the only one that seems unimpressed by this line-up? Much of the players on Vile have dropped off the scene, except for a few (Illusion & State are an exception). Currently Spanishiwa is doing a lot more studying than he is playing SC2. Psy hasn't done ANYTHING lately...I didn't even know that he still played, and there are a handful of members that I haven't heard of. There are some break-out talents here, such as dDoRo and HasHe. This seems like a very cool merger, but also very underwhelming. I don't see Naniwa or anyone else getting much better practice or results from this move.

A lot of the players on Vile have a lot of potential, considering that many of them are part-time students and did not have the resources to completely work towards becoming better progamers. Many of us hope that Quantic can turn these promising talents into major competitors.
I'll preface this by saying that I am not in the know at Vile or Quantic.
Don't worry about the large roster size. It seemed like very few or none of the Vile players were salaried. So in most cases, Quantic would just have to pick up the flight/hotel for ex Vile members and would only do that if they felt it was worth it to send the player to a tournament. So what they've picked up is a nice list of talented players for very low cost that they only need to pay out if the player starts to show some results on that talent. Seems like a great move for Quantic.
Sad to see the Vile brand die as they were one of the cool up-and-coming NA teams, but the merge seemed necessary. Best of luck to all involved.

That is pretty much how I felt too when I saw this, but it might be because of my own lack of knowledge. Personally I would have liked it more if Quantic just saved the cash and went for a couple of players that are really high caliber instead, but hopefully people here are right that there is a lot of talent in the former Vile roster and that they now get a real chance to practise a lot and reach their potential.
This is really great - I am interested to know more about these Google guys that funded the team. Did they already have a relationship with Quantic, or did they come out of nowhere with an angel investment?
wow was not expecting that. Interesting to see how much Quantic has in terms of revenue and good to see the growth of a team that was possibly not going to be able to keep up with the players. GL to everyone that transitioned
On May 05 2012 03:38 Sandermatt wrote: Is there a chance we could see Quantic players in the GSTL as mercenaries for Startale (through the partnership)?
I cant imagine Startale fielding any of them, except maybe Naniwa. ST is fucking stacked.
This is fantastic. Anytime you can keep a team intact is great for ESPORTS. Hoping to see a greater presence from Quantic in the NA and EU tournament scenes.
I'm hoping to see more of Chance, Illusion, Spanishiwa, and State in the near future. The Vile roster is talented all around but I think those guys in particular have a great future. Haven't seen much of Chance since his IPL breakthrough but I admit to not being real tightly tied to the scene at the moment. Congratulations to Quantic and the players on what would seem to be a good partnership! Sad to see Vile as an organization fall by the wayside but maybe there will be a future for them somewhere.
Some great players there With the rest of the Quantic they'll be great at teamleagues - always with a specialist for whatever anyone's throwing at them

Chuckie and Ian (the two Google employees) have been supporting us for a long time. When Vile began restructuring, we decided that we wanted to keep the team together while moving forward. Quantic offered that and more.
Hopefully we'll see great things out of this partnership.

So the Google guys were basically pretty hands off, but supplied some of the money and left the general team management to Vile guys, and with the restructuring they decided to get someone else to manage their players, and offered financial support to Quantic to work in a management capacity? (Just to make sure I'm no tmisunderstanding how it's all been worked).
Chuckie and Ian were the two pillars of vile, They made things possible behind the scenes that propelled Vile to what it was. Being a team with no sponsors but able to go to major tournaments to make a name for ourselves. Majority of this is due to them, we owe alot to them as a team, and theyre continuous support.
As much as you guys want to give Vile or Quantic itself the props, give props to these unsung heroes of e-sports.

Pleased for Illusion, that guy deserves a lot of support if he want to keep improving. Hope to see him in Korea one day. I know he's still very young though.
Glad that state and illusion will get more opportunities under a new team, I'm curious about yong but I guess either he doesn't want to play any more or he's joined startale.
This is awesome, glad this got worked out, seems beneficial for all... Though it seems like a lot of players to support.. and I wonder if any of them go to the quantic house... If a few of them did, that could be significant
Great pickup, awesome for ex-team vile, must express my sadness that the name is gone now . Maybe vile can continue on in name and other unknowns will join the team, kind of like how some of the korean clans are (example: team aLive and nex).
I have to wonder what effect this has on IPL TAC3 coming up. Partnerships are broken and the teams play separately (like Complexity and MVP), but this was an acquisition, not a partnership.

No he's right, their lineup is pretty mediocre.
Yeah, none of them have even won a GSL! And we all know if a player hasn't won a GSL, they are clearly mediocre
Of course if you compare them to guys like MVP or MMA they'll seem mediocre, but they are very good by foreigner standards and have done decently well against Korean competition.

The team overall is really mediocre, although some players seem to be somewhat talented. Will be interesting to see how these players will develop in Quantic Gaming.
I think this is awesome, stable progamers proved better results! much ♥ to the guys financially responsible for this, titans amongst men.

I met Stephen at a local tournament. He owns and his heart is really behind the players on the team. I actually wasn't too surprised to see his name pop up as one of the primary backers of the team during this transition to Quantic because he had already been working with them for a long time prior. If there's one guy who's focused on developing eSports, it's Stephen.
Big congratulations to Quantic for getting some solid additions to their roster.

I think that Spanishiwa is focusing on school right now.
Yes! So happy to hear that the Vile players found a home. I always root for those guys and I hope both they and the original members of Quantic become even better as a result of this pickup.
What ever happened to spanishiwa? I have litterally heard nothing about him for months! He like dissapeared. I hope QxG can rerelease the beast again. :D
I have serious misgivings about a team this size being able to sustain so many talented players. If it is sustainable (even with the G$$gle backers) then it seems clear the salary of all sc2 players needs to take a few % pnts of an upward climb.

Many of these players are young living at home, and probably don't get much of a salary. Most likely the money they receive is for travel and expense at tournaments.
"After getting to know the Vile players and becoming emotionally invested in their success, they decided to financially support the group in order to further their eSports careers."
Congrats on the pickup! Looking forward to see Illusion rock the house! And also it is interesting that PsY is Quantic now as well wonder what his thoughts behind this are.
now they might actually have a slight chance to win anything in teamleagues... but now 2 less vile players will actually get to play in teamleagues so i have mixed feelings about this i don't know why quantic would do this because there are many more talented teams they could have aquired imo...
Not too sure I like this move. Saturated rosters typically aren't my cup of tea. I prefer less, more potent players, such as Naniwa, Sase, and... that's it.

Good luck though.
It's okay when you think that, but I fear that even quantic thinks it...
Though I'm glad that teams can combine like this for the better good, I'm not sure if all the Vile members are on par with some of the Quantic players Regardless, best of luck
Great players, but I wish someone else would've picked them up. I've had conversations with Quantic employees, and all they care about is money. Not... the love of eSports, not... the love of their fans or players, not... fun. Money. Money. Money.

Buisness is money, money, money. Without money we wouldn't have eSports. Do you actually think that every single sponsor for every single team actually would support their selected team if the game became less profitable? No.

Posts like these blow my mind. How do you think the world works in general? It's money, no company is going to sponsor a team out of their good little hearts. No they hope to make a return, it's an investment not a "here you can go to tournaments, possibly win money, free travel and we don't care if we sell nothing!"
Sure some companies sponsor because they like esports, but if they make no money whatsoever from it or whatever I guarantee it they wouldn't sponsor any teams.
Nice for Quantic ! They will get Illusion who seems to be a great foreign Terran hope ! The rest of the line-up doesn't seem to be very good though ...

Money is a huge part of it, I understand business perfectly well. But, is your purpose in life to MAKE MONEY? If so, that's really unfortunate.

Correct. Another point to be made is that the growth of esports and the desire for money are not mutually exclusive. The more money to be made in a given industry will inevitably lead to a larger industry.
I like this very much. Some pretty damn good players on Vile, so nice pickup for Quantic all around. And just one more reason to love Google (indirectly at least).
What will happen to PsY and his BM casting? According to recent threads that would be unacceptable. Since he's on a "legit" team now, he can't just prance around with his harmful words amirite?

Sure some companies sponsor because they like esports, but if they make no money whatsoever from it or whatever I guarantee it they wouldn't sponsor any teams.
Money is a huge part of it, I understand business perfectly well. But, is your purpose in life to MAKE MONEY? If so, that's really unfortunate.
Apparently you don't. SC2 isn't some huge booming industry with piles of money everywhere. If the team doesn't get cash, the players don't get cash.
If I'm a pro player, I'd much rather have a team that could actually pay the bills, and your paycheck, than one that "loved eSports".

If Quantic's purpose was to make money, Quantic would probably be in a different industry. A majority of Quantic's employees do not make any money but rather invest their time for something they believe in.
I really hope PsY takes this chance to become really good. Like to stop playing badly when he obviously can do better; it's like he is being stubborn or something, and it makes me sad because I love him :>
