Dusty has said this out loud, that they will never provide LAN support. Local support for tournaments is something they are looking into, but LAN is a dead issue.

I really hope the changes to chat they implement will somewhat resemble this:

But honestly, it shouldn't stop there. With B.Net 2.0, I don't see any reason why they wouldn't allow for more customization such as compacting the top navigation part in favor of more chat space or something.
Looking forward to the changes, though. The updated chat/interface plus the streaming support could make the social experience a lot more exciting.

this makes me sad with no mention of help for terrans late game vs protoss or zerg. This is a feature patch, why are you bringing in balance? And if you want a late game terran buff, they WILL have to nerf terran's early game and I am sure most terrans won't want their marines touched.

Hope this solves the "Ghost town effect" though, always had to call my friends or message them to remind myself that I am not alone

This is cool for the mod and ums players, but really? the ability to re size a window and maybe* find people next to you as if you were at a lan or something? ...-_-... MAKE CLANS/CHAT CHANNELS JESUS CHRIST.... does anyone remember seeing mods with avi or video capabilities in beta (ie. the rickroll for dota)? I swear blizzard is just milking some of this stuff out as they release new stuff.

Hey hey hey, you know how important it is to resize chat windows? I can even adjust it to fit the 2 black areas near the bottom while I play sc2 and watch people argue about balance. That's something I always want.

Why are people happy about this? Blizzard is essentially sidestepping the actual problems, and giving us a new feature that sounds nice, but really does nothing to improve what we want.
Chat channels: Still suck ass, no clan support, no moderation support
We asked them to give us similar functionality to classic battle.net as its far superior, they ignored us. This is just as useful as when they put in twitter into battle.net 2.0. Blizzard has really fallen from grace in these past years, and I don't blame the whole activision merger.
They used to be like German car manufacturers. They produced an efficient, quality, polished product. Now they are like American manufacturers, they don't care about the fine details, the perfections. They mass produce to sell to the mainstream audience. I gotta end here before I go into an even bigger rant, this can't be healthy,
|
I like that they are listening to the community with this one, still no clan support though, not that big of a deal for me though. Sounds like it might start to look like the old Bnet, so I won't need to be in irc all the time to not feel alone while playing.
Good job Blizzard all is not lost!!

Oh god this is so true...

wake me up if its possible to watch replays together.

They have essentially implemented LAN for the chat lobbies, which can also now be resized I might add.
That's two birds with one stone you guys, why aren't you happy?

Dude, you're missing the point. They're listening to what the community is saying, and they're working on improving their admittedly terrible service. As far as updating the game goes, Blizzard has been consistently getting their act together more and more. The trend for Blizzard is upward here. If this continues, then the game's going to be way past the level of BW by the time LotV releases.

I don't get why people are excited. This is a shitty bandaid on some big problems. All it really said was You can resize the chat windows (fullscreen isn't the only way IRC chat was superior), it's slightly easier to find custom games, and bnet will ping you when someone in a proximity is playing starcraft and ask you "do you want to play a game?!". Or you could just add him to your friends list and invite him to a game like you've always done, this isn't lan.
We're still missing a lot (read:almost all) of the things we wanted fixed with the UI. Replays with friends Clan Support (most) chat features stats and more
This is very underwhelming to me, I hope people stop coddling blizzard and make it clear that we want a full battlenet 2.0, not just a slightly upgraded bnet 0.2

We believe this will primarily be used by people in internet gaming rooms, offices, dorm rooms, and local tournaments where you just want to find the guy sitting in the desk next to you. Although this may not be ready in time for the release of patch 1.5, we do intend to have this available by the time Heart of the Swarm ships. Sure its not quite LAN but it sounds a lot better than what we have now.
didn't say it was bad, I'm happy for this if you read my post earlier in the thread which is highly unlikely and I didn't want to repeat myself. I was trying to put a stop to all these "give sc2 LAN" posts because it's just not going to happen.

So all of you who just jump to asking for more things: its like a girl finally let you put your arm around her cus shes really shy /prude even though youve been dating for 3 weeks and all of the sudden you're like sex? Handjob? Boobs? No. You just enjoy the progress and complain in the locker room, not to her.
Likewise, go the ui still subpar thread because i think discussing whats in the patch notes> discussing what they are probably still working/is impossible.
The lan sounding one strikes my fancy. On first glance, one thinks lan. On second glance,'one thinks oh its just to find people near you. On third glance, it appears to treat two people from one router as a single entity which should mean we all lag out or none of us do.
Chat channels: possibly, its a step in the right direction. Ill like tl all big on my screen for me to see. Im sure this feature will develop.
Custom games: basically, we move to wc3 style atleast its accessible. Kthxblizz no more cold showers for you

Feels like too little, too late. Whoop de doo, they're finally taking steps towards BNet 1.0.
|
About fucking time! I really hope they make the open game list pretty much a replica of WC3/BW game lists.
