To: Inquisitio Haereticae Pravitatis
Revered inquisitors,
I would like to extend my sincerest apologies to the Church, Christians, and all believers. When I made the hurtful and offensive comments seen on the marketplace board, I was not in a proper state of mind. My judgement was clouded by anger, rage, and frustration, and I thought the offensive language would be interpreted as comedy and venting rather than legitimate world views of mine. Clearly I was wrong, and I am so very sorry to anyone I offended. If there is one thing I could hope for here, it's that my family’s name will not be harmed by my thoughtless actions. I never dreamed when I was claiming “God doesn’t exist" I would one day represent the Blacksmith Guild of our town (as all of this offensive blasphemy was from before I had joined the Blacksmith Guild), but this obviously does not excuse me.
I want to make absolutely clear that I am not a heretic. The accusations against me could not be farther from the truth. The ‘God doesn’t exist' was used in a replaceable fashion, in that any other curse would have held the exact same meaning for me. I understand now, however, that this doesn't hold true for all members of the Christian community. For any I truly offended, I am sorry for offending you. I have an unwavering faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and I would challenge anyone to debate me on this matter. I have never once held any bit of heresy in my heart, but it's understandable that when I wear some of it on my sleeve people assume it extends to my heart. I hope each and every one of you can understand that while I use offensive language when my emotions get the better of me, I do not stand by the language I use. It was a mistake, plain and simple. One that I will not soon forget.
From the believers, forgetting is what I dream of, forgiveness is what I hope for, but understanding is what I need.
We all have regrets from our past, and you can bet this mistake of mine will be regretted for the rest of my life.
I also want to extend my most gracious thanks and appreciation for the Blacksmith Guild and everyone involved. Never have I worked for a craft I enjoyed working with so much. I was having the best time of my life before this incident reared its ugly head, so I want to thank them for providing me with that opportunity. It's a shame I had to ruin this for myself before it even started, but hopefully one day, in the future, forgiveness will allow me to return to working. All I have ever wanted in the Blacksmith craft was to provide iron tools and weaponry for the community and townspeople, and I have failed at that.
My sincerest apologies, Jakobus "orb" Sklarewus March 09 1412

Orb got in trouble equally for how he used then what he used
if he had started an intellectual debate of the history of the english language and engaging his viewers and using the word as an expample of the growth of words and ultiple meanings noone would care
the fact that he used it as an insult and a way to vent rage at a random ladder player shows that 1) hes emotionaly immature, as many have poointed out everyone gets cheesed all the time and everyone gets angry but not everyone uses that way to release anger 2) that hes a liability who could explode on such a tangent at any time if getting cheesed is enough to make him blow his top then its probable hed do it during an official event
if he had a long outstanding career it would ahve been different but hes a completely new face in the community that really only apeared a little while ago compared to say Day[9] whos been around for over 10 years

I forgive you! Ofc you did not want anyone harm. You do great casting! Hope this will go over soon!!

Yes, and in Orb's context it was gross and offensive, a point surely lost on Catz (oh the irony) and you.

Spewing out racist shit, isnt a mistake. It is a lapse in his mental filter for things politically/socially incorrect, what you get with rage, is a mans honest opinion.

Apologizing for insulting someone on ladder?
What's next? Apologizing for not saying "gl hf2"? For cannon rushing??
Ridiculous.

Im sorry Orb, but I simply cant forgive you. You are a high level player, and when you are in pro gaming clans getting sponsored and all, you have higher standards then the rest of us. You are a role model for some gamers, and forgiving you for your language is like forgiving deezer or CombatX for stream cheating.

This is so unfortunate, SC2 has a weird way of bringing out excessive rage if you don't have a truly passive mindset whilst playing the game. This particular event was bound to happen to someone who is a public figure and puts them selves in alignment with teams and sponsors, again I feel it is unfortunate because I really think Orb was just fired up, if you know anything about Orb, you know hes a firey kind of guy, this kind of talk is not my cup of tea, and I really think people who use the word as an random insert profanity are being a bit ignorant, but this does not stop me from forgiving Orb. I still think hes a great caster and great guy, he just used some shitty words, and I'm sure he has learned a lesson. To Orb, keep on keeping on man, you are us and we are you. Orb fighting and thank you for the apology.

You're right, the owner of EG should fire Destiny ... oh wait --
You're right, the owner of EG should let other people tell them what he should consider offensive ... oh wait --
You're right, the owner of EG should allow the low standards of others to define how he handles his business ... oh wait -- that's stupid too!
Orb was caught behaving badly. His boss didn't feel like defending it. He got fired. That's life.
The lesson here isn't to try to rationalize the casual use of slurs, and convince the rest of the world that it's not offensive when you're super-duper mad, and hope that by doing so, people like Orb will be granted amnesty to call people niggers whenever he gets cannon rushed.
The lesson here is to learn to manage your emotions and have discipline and respect for other people. Because even if you don't realize it, there's social consequences that will limit you and your opportunities.

Some people do. Many of them are in this thread. I argued with one who called him an implicit racist, which there simply is no proof for, and is equally ridiculous to assume (even if it really isn't that bad).

you seem to be out of the loop. the reason he was fired was because a shit ton of ppl went to EGs sponsors which basically forced alex to fire orb because the community targeted EGs sponsors. whats even more sad is that orb doesnt get that many viewers. 200 at the most on his best days. so why the hell give a fuck about him now? THAT is why this entire situation is stupid and ridiculous. it was all started because of drama whores that have never even watched orb stream even once.
the ammount and sheer volume of drama this has created is what got orb, a guy that only gets 100-200 viewers on his stream, fired. the other thread is near 200 pages long FFS. if u havent cared about him before WHY start to care about what he does now? especially if what he did was OVER A YEAR ago? its extremly sad and could have been avoided, especially since orb has cleaned himself up alot since then.
you dont care for a guy or what that guy does for 2+ years and now that he becomes relevant in the community u dig up something from his past, start drama, and get the guy fired? for what reason? for what reason? for what reason did u decide to man hunt orb after years of not giving a shit about him in the first place?
oh and since your going to be a smartass and pull the "EG boss didnt want to put up with it" card and other stupid white knight morals then i have one name for you.
Idra.
idras calling ppl faggots and his offensive BM makes EG money and makes him famous so they cant get rid of him. orb says one word and he gets fired without any hope of a 2nd chance. oh the irony.
if idra could get away with so much shit he has said WHILE ON EG PAYROLL for so long then i think orb can get away with saying 1 word he said before EG even knew he existed. fair is fair and we live and forget.
but i dont blame the owner of EG at all. i blame the community for going to such extremes as to threaten EGs sponsors with this shit. if it wasnt for the community going to such extremes as to get orb fired i honestly beleive Alex wouldnt have been so harsh as to fire him and instead "talk to him" about it the same way he deals with idras BS.

you seem to be out of the loop. the reason he was fired was because a shit ton of ppl went to EGs sponsors which basically forced alex to fire orb let me stop you right there, SirScoots said on Lo3 that if the alegations were true, orb would be fired, also despite them being contacted we have no evidence that they did actually talk to Alex about it at all

I'm not sure how this is ironic.
coL and EG are 2 totally separate organizations with separate known rules, regulations, and views on stuff. If you worked for the NAACP and started calling people "n-----" all the time, they'd be a little pissed. Contrastingly, if you worked for the KKK, they'd be pissed if you didn't.
I don't understand where this sense of entitlement is coming from. We'll never get to a point where everything is fair and even, it's just human nature for that not to be the case. If the number of people that bitched about Orb's actions bitched to the sponsors of Quantic about Destiny, or coL about Catz then there would be repercussions. The players may not stop using the terms or speaking how they do, but I'd be highly surprised if they remained on the team or those teams kept the sponsors receiving the large number of negative feedback.
Right or wrong this is how things work, and it makes sense. If 3000 people bitched about Destiny's Goatee saying they'll no longer purchase Razer gear until he shaved it, either it would get shaved, he would be dropped, or Razer would cease to sponsor Quantic.*
Sponsorship is a business's willingful pledge of money or goods or other services for the positive press gained when a celebrity uses or at the very least claims to use their products. While yes, press is press, poor press in an extremely competitive market is going to have a net negative impact on sales. If a customer tells you they will not purchase something regardless of whether or not the reason makes sense, you have to either trust that they aren't needlessly bitching and do something about it immediately, wait for the quarterly reports to see if maybe that senseless issue affected your sales and then do something drastic, or ignore the problem and hope it goes away. When that one person not liking Destiny's goatee turns into 3000, or 4000, or 10000, then sponsors have a very potentially serious issue on their hands and they need to do something.
We can keep looking at this as an issue of EG or Orb fuckin up, depending on your view of the situation. Or we can understand that our community's actions have a consequence, and we need to start using some actual judgment before picking up the pitchforks.
Is Orb a racist? Probably not, and you know it, asshole that posted the original reddit thread. You could have brought your concerns to EG directly, they could have spoken to Orb on their own, and handled the entire issue in house without incident. Instead, EG is forced to do something drastic, possibly hurt their relationship with their sponsors, and a dude who made an honest (though frankly stupid) mistake is out of a job.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, think before you act. For the love of everything that you hold dear, think.
*I honestly can't find who Quantic's sponsors are, if Razer isn't one, lets pretend they are for the sake of this argument.

dont kid ur self. thats not gonna happne because destiny has to many fans. his offensivness is WHY he is watched and why he is popular just like idra. it just so happened to backfire on orb bigtime, which is where the irony comes from. orb is honestly no diffrent from the rage of idra and destiny. all 3 of them are the same in that regard. the N word is just a magic word for so many ppl.

If 3000 people bitched about Destiny's Goatee saying they'll no longer purchase Razer gear until he shaved it, either it would get shaved, he would be dropped, or Razer would cease to sponsor Quantic.* Sponsorship is a business's willingful pledge of money or goods or other services for the positive press gained when a celebrity uses or at the very least claims to use their products. *I honestly can't find who Quantic's sponsors are, if Razer isn't one, lets pretend they are for the sake of this argument.
if you cant find it ironic (which i have no idea how u wouldnt, EG, col, and quantic are all orginizations and teams that represent the SC2 community. they all represent the same game. EG isnt the top team of SC2.) then why do u ignore idra? idra is on EG just like orb was.

I hope he gets kicked out of coL now. /sarcasm off Like, there might be different levels of importance of players, and who people are. Like CatZ is a player for coL, and he is a well respected member of the community. He is not really a liability. Orb on the other hand, for such a big corporation like EG, huge liability. So sponsors like creative don't care but intel does? And what if CatZ switched to EG? Would it be a big deal then? And oh, btw, CatZ was on MLG Winter Arena, even though he makes racist comments? What's that about? MLG is not that big of a corporation I guess. Stop trolling dude. CatZ: Nigger in front of 3000 viewers -> Nobody cares Orb: Nigger in front of 200 viewers -> Outrage as fuck This is ridiculous. Catz shouldnt be allowed to do that either. Catz's point was that context is what matters, a point obviously lost on the E!Sports drama trols. Yes, and in Orb's context it was gross and offensive, a point surely lost on Catz (oh the irony) and you. destiny calls ppl faggot as a heavy offensive insult all the time. while he was in korea practicing he even tried to think of the most racist thing he could think of to BM the koreans on ladder with and even asked the stream for help. this is all recent and always in front of 5k+ viewers. for orb it was only infront of 200 MAX ppl. destiny is still in quantic and is still being offensive. orb got fired from EG. oh the irony indeed I'm not sure how this is ironic. coL and EG are 2 totally separate organizations with separate known rules, regulations, and views on stuff. If you worked for the NAACP and started calling people "n-----" all the time, they'd be a little pissed. Contrastingly, if you worked for the KKK, they'd be pissed if you didn't.
That's such a dumb comparison, both EG and coL are organizations within the same business unlike your second example.
