Maybe you should try reading the full amendment before urging people to defend it.

No, perhaps instead of telling others to grow up- you might want to consider your arguements a little more carefuly and take some time to think about them in the BIG picture.
I will never EVER be told what I can or can't say when expressing my opinion. There is a reason there is freedom of speech. By being able to communicate our thoughts and feelings, we break our chains. Live free or die.
putting dirt under the rug doens't make the floor clean. and that's jsut my 2¢ My two cents, the words "Red" and "Blue" aren't offensive, because they mean "Red" and "Blue". The word "nigger" is offensive, because of what it means. You seem to be purposefully "over"thinking things. Offensive is taken not given. Choose not to be offended. I can't remember a single time in my life i've been offended, i've been mad at what people say and do- even enraged. but offended? Do you even know what offense means? "a transgression of the law; misdemeanor." What about Nigga/er it just means an ignorant black person. So what? It's a word with a defination. Do you know what Terran means? Terran: "of or pertaining to the planet Earth," These are all words...JUST WORDS. YOU CHOOSE TO MAKE THEM MEAN ANYTHING MORE THEN THAT. YOU CHOOSE. So any noun, or adj. (maybe some adverbs) can become 'bad' words now? All this crap makes me so sick.. Someone missed the point. Quoting urban dictionary definitions for shit is a pretty bad idea, too. Also, when the hell did Terran become offensive again? I thought the patches addressed apologies some of us are said to be owing. I don't think "nigga" has the same weight as "nigger", and there's also context. I don't feel the need to explain this much further. Your lose definition and shoddy argument have inspired me to dig something up... An example of the term "niggerish" from the mouth of Charlie Murphy is presented here, at 0:57. Listen carefully to Charlie. This video will help you with many definitions. For the record. This is simply to clear up any biased [from white people] interpretations. I myself am no authority to comment on how the real target of an n-bomb feels...
Never used this urban dictionary before just looked it up to see what ur talking about and as far as I can tell it has no intellectual qualifications for being a dictionary. I saw no certification, or credentials of any sort... so why you brought it up is beyond me.
I used the Terran example to show how ignorant people are. It's a word. It is made up of syllables. Nothing more. You can't say something offends you. People teach you to ACT 'OFFENDED', to make these claims that it is 'hurtful'. but offense, as I've already defined using a REAL dictionary that are used by colleges and business all over the English speaking world shows us that you can't be offended by a word. It's an ACT. A breaching of the law.
Society makes me so sick.
What word tomorrow are we going to claim to be offensive? Red Blue Pink Brown Cyan
What part of you CHOOSE to be 'offended', did you not understand?

The only thing I've found that comes close to what you quoted was a 'Clear and present danger' clause made by the Supreme Court (which means you can't yell fire in a building as people may begin to stampede).
Saying Nigger/Nigga/Faggot/Fag/ etc are not a clear and present danger.
Edit: Also Slander/Libel are a few exemptions, but since none of the above has anything to do with what we are talking about, There is no correlating relevance.

For crying out loud, this feels like a corporate overreaction by EG.
Orb, you are great and will continue to be so. Like almost all people on this world I have called, and have been called, all kinds of hurtful things, deserved or not. I guess in America N--- is more of a big deal than in Europe, but I still do think this has been blown way out of proportion
Don't let it get to you, keep up the good work!

I won't comment on the actual incident since this seem to be something very specific to the US and I'm not American. But firing someone for two words he said one one occasion, long before working for EG? That wouldn't even be legal where I live.

Yes. 3) Did Reddit 'prove' something about a man's personality because of a screenshot of an isolated incident from a previous time? No. 4) Once again, did Orb fail to 'keep his nose clean' while working for EG? No.
You don't get it. The First Amendment protects you from the government interfering with your speech, it doesn't protect you from private citizens oder corporations from interfering with it. For example TL can ban you for saying something the mods didn't like. And a company may fire an employee for saying things they don't like. Maybe another example might help you: The First Amendment prohibits public schools from teaching about God. But a catholic private school can teach whatever they want about God.
This has nothing to do with the First Amendment. It might be a case of wrongul termination, but for that you would need to know the contents of the contract between orb and EG.

I am guessing there was a clause in his contract that stated he could be let go for any reason. I have had this stipulation in a job offer. Also some jobs here in the US start out with a probationary period were u can be terminated for a number of reasons that a non-probationary worker would never get terminated for.

wow this thread is long :D
IMO I wouldn't have said what orb said but it shouldn't be a big deal that he flamed someone, and maybe it offended some people but if he has the "mature language" button on his stream then no one can really be too upset.
The problem was that he lied about it and then EG backed him up and told everyone he didn't do it and that was a big mistake. He should have owned up to it and he ended up making EG looking bad and that's why they released him from his contract and that is perfectly understandable.

Casters have to be more professional and extent their vocabulary...

don't call people bad names, cause they will get offended. whether that is right or not is not a very good argument to have.
don't say racial slurs in a derrogitory manner or people will definitely get offended. whether that is right or not is not a very good argument to have.
if you are a public person, watch what you say because that shit will definitely offend someone, whether that is right or not is not a very good argument to have.
if you've said some bad shit in the past, hope that shit stays in the past, because it can and probably will come back to haunt you. i don't think i need to repeat the "right or wrong" point again, so I won't.
dude said some stuff that wasn't nice. it wasn't nice to say it. no one can legitimately argue that saying "nigger" repeatedly is nice or even okay. it's not okay, and it's definitely not nice. dude who said some not nice, not okay stuff got fired (??) because a bunch of people got offended and took their offense to the sponsors. stuff happens. everyone needs to take a chill pill. this is not the end of the world, and unless the world turns upside down, this is not the end of orb, or EG, or ESPORTS, or "our freedoms brah"!
relax. take a deep breath. let the positivity flow in, let the negativity flow out. there are going to be people who disagree with you. let them. think happy thoughts.

you lied, so why wouldn't people look for more proof of your racist bm?

Even though you represented your professional self in a poor way via slander and hurtful comments, it takes a serious, meditated, and mature person to come out publicly and recognize, clarify, and apologize to a large audience. This is most definitely an important step in your career if you mean what you say in the original post.

That would make it contractual, not necessarily legal. If and when the contract is ruled illegal, you're left with nothing.
As i said above in this thread, and in MY opinion, under French law, EG's decision wouldn't stand a chance in court. I wish the SC2 community was sufficiently educated in law matters to be as shocked as I am at the moment.
We don't want light minded, insulting casters - fine. We shouldn't be lenient about cow-boys employers either.
Professionalism, sure, but professionalism for all, then.

Actually, if I'm not mistaken. There's something like a 3 month probationary period everyone has at any new job where they reserve the right to fire you for any reason. It is most certainly legal.

Not any reason, it has to be related to the employee attitude (can't be related to the company only, for instance).
Also what it does, in France at least, is remove the constraint of a long procedure. The procedure is much quicker. The decision still has to be motivated by serious (and related to the employee) reasons, though.
Edit : the duration of probationary period is also not fixed but depends on the overall lenght of the main contract it's attached to.
