Alex is verbose, and you owe it to yourself (and the rest of us) to read the statement in its entirety. Remember, when making comments/claims to provide proper evidence, facts etc. Arguments based on incorrect assumptions, facts and straw men, will be dealt with swiftly. If in doubt, PM a mod or ask IRC. Do NOT spread misinformation, when in doubt, check your sources. In short, be smart. What worries me, however, is that everyone finds it okay to use statements made years ago to condemn a person. In the days of globalized communication, ubiquitous recording and almost unlimited electronic memory no mistake will go unnoticed or be forgotten. Do we really want a world in which every error in judgement will haunt us forever? Who of us is without sin?

And all the kids should know that you are not that anonymous in the internet and you are responsible for how you behave. We (communities) are now beginning to judge ourselves. That is good. We dont need no internetpolice as long as we take care of these things. I totally respect Orbs apology, but there is too much racism (including homophobia/sexism) even when people dont realize it themselves.

In my opinion, they ONLY fired him because of the people going to the sponsors. I have seen both HuK and Idra behaving many times worse with no consequences and now this? Well, time to write a email to EG sponsors about how I will never buy their products again because of Alex and EG's double-standards and blatant manipulation of the community. Seriously, costing someone a job because of ladder rage from a year ago... Go to hell, god damn kids.

I see this word thrown around so much by ragers on ladder that at times I have questioned whether this community that seems in general to condone the usage of the "n-word" is one that I actually want to be a part of, whether I want to be associated with people like this. And here is the thing about its common usage that I see on BNet - it is absolutely meant in a racist way, to suggest that another player is bad because they might belong to a certain race. Call it a joke if you want, but that is just a lie to hide your racism behind. The condonement I see on BNet isn't even tacit - typically in a team game calling someone a n----- well elicit more than a few LOLs. When Orb acts that way in public - and make no mistake, when he is laddering as "Orb", he is acting as a public figure - it sends a message to the rest of the community that it is OK to do as he did. Great post Alex, and I'm glad that you stepped up to show some leadership here. Unfortunately there are many posters here who see no problem with a highly visible community member behaving as Orb did. From comments such as above ("I cannot respect your post. Expecting universal condemnation of behaviour that does not conform to your personal values strikes me as a terrible thing." - Hailplays) there are simply those in our community who think that racism is fine. To answer Hailplays, condemning racism in all its forms is not simply a belief of Alex Garfield's - it is a fundamental tenant of the global society in which we all live, and it's reasonable to expect nearly universal condemnation, excluding racists of course. I rarely get angry, but you succeeded. Congratulations. There is something exceptionally infuriating about condescending people who believe they are writing something intelligent but are actually light years off the mark. You're way too smug and self-satisfied for your own good. The man spoke quite generally about his discontent with a community that did not condemn what he personally felt should be condemned. Though general (perhaps a mistake on his part, let that be as it may), it was made in reference to the example of the CS team impersonating African-Americans. I did not find that particularly racist, effectively throwing your entire point out the window. The situation can be interpreted differently: some people think it is racist, others do not. He quite clearly feels that his particular interpretation should be the guiding light directing condemnation. You, it seems, feel much the same way. To you racism is, excuse the pun, an entirely black and white affair. I do not agree.

Just stop being butthurt so quickly :/ how can you say something so ignorant. there's a reason why certain terms are more "offensive" than others (even though offense is not the real issue), because the usage of slurs about oppressed groups rely on the actual history of their oppression for their meaning whereas people know Whites have been dominant on earth for a generally long time. It's the difference between making a joke that describes reality (satiric), and another that is absurd in nature. It's very convenient for you as a white person to say a slur against you wouldn't mean anything.
