Alex is verbose, and you owe it to yourself (and the rest of us) to read the statement in its entirety. Remember, when making comments/claims to provide proper evidence, facts etc. Arguments based on incorrect assumptions, facts and straw men, will be dealt with swiftly. If in doubt, PM a mod or ask IRC. Do NOT spread misinformation, when in doubt, check your sources. In short, be smart. I can understand EG not wanting to get involved with someone who doesn't get simple stuff like that. If I heard one of my employees use such language, because they are pissed off, I'd fire them on the spot. Orb has shown himself to be a liability and now pays the price for it Our community should have at least some standards of decency. Just because it's online and losing on ladder is frustrating, doesn't suddenly make it ok to yell the most vile insults you can come up with at the time. In any other setting this stuff has severe consequences. You'd get your ass kicked, or lose your job, or get sued. Maybe it's political correctness, but it's how the world has worked for quite some time and Orb had...23 (I think) years to figure that out. He failed to notice the complete obvious and now paid the price for his own ignorance Not that it matters, but would you fire someone if you saw them call someone a nigger while playing a video game? Better yet, could you? Language in the workplace versus someone's private environment is a tough call. I agree that EG did need to do something, but only because he is essentially a public figure and what he does in his private life (assuming it becomes public, like this) does have an impact on his overall brand. I said multiple times already that it isn't acceptable, but that doesn't mean it warrants this ridiculous public outcry we have here. I find it interesting that you say; "You'd get your ass kicked, or lose your job, or get sued" with the assumptions that: 1. The individual is automatically going to become aggressive because of a word and result to violence (stereotyping a little bit yourself, eh?). Also implying the person saying the word is weak I guess? 2. The person saying the word is in the position to get fired and not do the firing. Get sued? Really? You would have to be one extreme individual to sue over being called a name in an unofficial environment, laws or no laws - I could understand this from an african american who was actually a slave, but no one else. Anywhoo, feels like beating a dead horse here and no amount of arguing is going to change anything. Everyone has been successful and the big bad orb is essentially finished. Watch your language everyone, or reddit's going to get you next!

'Yeah this guy got dropped from professional casting for getting mad at people and calling them "fucking niggers" etc on his Internet stream'. Try to explain that to someone in a professional position outside the SC spectrum/this general community and gauge their reactions.

I never thought I'd read such a mature and intelligent discussion on race and racism on TL. My Ph.D. is in Ethnic Studies and so it was so heartening to hear someone who so important in US esports making these points was very inspiring.

At what point does a person choose to be offended? Why would a person choose to be offeneded? Being offended isn't a pleasant experience. What advantage would choosing to be offended serve? This view is so widespread and it just doesn't hold up for me at all... Taking offence is emotional, involuntary. Not something that's decided on.

There's no one word that can only be used in an offending sense, and even if there were, offense be damned anyways. I take pride in my offending expertise - I could offend anyone on the planet with indefinite articles and punctuation if I wanted. The reason I use words outside of that set is to express myself better. I wouldn't get offended at the use of any specific word. I certainly expect others to, if only because the average person can't be quite as dispassionate as me. For instance, an Amish person might get offended that I talked about my motherboard, but that wouldn't stop me talking about my desktop. Sure, I could call it the north bridge as a euphemism and the Amish guy wouldn't know any better, but something offends everyone, so I won't warp my language at the whims of other's offense. Nor would the degree of offense factor into this - someone getting more offended just tells me he's more emotionally unstable. I find you analogy both wildly creative and completely ridiculous. Come on, the word 'motherboard' would not suddenly offend an Amish guy. He would neither care or give two shits about what you were saying. In the same breath you managed to fail at something you claim to be an expert at, which is offending people. Calling an Amish guy a heathen or Satan or a jew-whore because he beat you in a butter-churning race would probably be more equivalent to Orb calling a dude a 'dumb nigger' in a ladder game. Actually, calling an Amish guy a dumb nigger would be equivalent to Orb calling someone a dumb nigger. Your analogies suck, SON!

Of COURSE they have the please the sponsors, that is part of being a large organization FUNDED by other corporations to sell their product and represent their company. Essentially Monster Energy Inc. is paying Evil Geniuses to have their players (and casters) promote their product, so why would Monster Energy want to be affiliated with someone who uses the n-word? They simply wouldn't. People seem to think that "politics to please sponsors" is some sin that shouldn't be allowed, when in actual fact it's how the REAL WORLD operates. If ESports ever wants to be taken seriously (and as mentioned in the OP, we still have A LOT of growing up to do before we can be, especially if people are complaining about 'politics' with regards to sponsors) they need to accept that pleasing sponsors is a part of the business and you CANNOT have someone who uses the n-word, regardless of if it's a cast or just randomly playing on ladder. It would be analogous as if Tom Brady was at a grocery store and started calling everyone a n-word. So what if he's not in a football statium or practicing football? He still represents the New England Patriots organization and all of his sponsors no matter where he is or what he is doing, that's part of his job and his responsibilities.

If this horrible person is indeed the person who have sent EG sponsors letters of complain, we should put on the same spot as orb.
