Personally I feel that anything of this nature said by a caster is always going to cause problems, especially when its " unreleased" information slandering a player.
Its obvious that Katu did not understand the weight of his statements when he was making them seen in "I dont care" and "im trolling", so yes it was completely unprofessional and I believe some sort of punishment is in order, but I think his reputation has been smurf enough now that we can let it die.
This should be a lesson to ALL casters, It is not your job to release information and at no point is it appropriate to disclose those kinds of opinions " ON AIR"

If Dragon wasn't stream cheating (and based on the common opinion, his 3k viewers don't think he did), he wouldn't even care about what the casters say. I've had many casted games where the casters are either making fun of / ridiculing my play even though they are clearly no where near the same skill level. All I can say is: Deal with it. If the player isn't even outwardly angry about it, why are his fans attempting to butcher a poor caster who is HELPING you watch and enjoy the game? He is a professional (this is debatable because I doubt he makes too much money either), and this is unacceptable, but seriously people.
I'm depressed as to how a section of the community so quickly jumps on a guys ass for one mistake. It's not like he lied about anything either.... Dragon HAS been known to have stream cheated, and although he is insinuating things that may not be true, he shouldn't be nailed to a cross.
Nobody cares about them criticizing his greedy play. Anyone who watched professional starcraft knows that his play is extremely risky. He said two things which were not true and paint Dragon in a worse light than he already is. Whether you consider them lies or not, they were incorrect statements directly related to his character. He also strongly implied that Dragon was cheating, which regardless of his past is unfair.
He shouldn't be nailed to a cross, but it isn't something to be casually accepted either. I don't think being fired was necessary, but I think a better apology with an intent to actually fix the false allegations made (re his membership in SlayerS not to mention the fact that the incident referred to was long ago and he hasn't had any recent spots on his record) isn't too much to ask. His comments made Dragon out to be some infamous cheater who does it constantly, rather than a popular player who has the support of Boxer and Cella who made a mistake early in his career.

Not even close.
I just read the first 10 pages, and it pretty much sums it up, if you consider all the "i will enver wathc palyhem again!1!".
Read the last 10 pages, not the first 10 pages, standard forum protocol. A lot can happen in 30 pages..
Second: Dragon. I know, fanboys will jump me like a horny virgin, but: while i think its a generous offer from playhem to pay hotel and whatnot, he does NOT deserve it. Fact is, he cheated. Not 10 years ago in brood war, but in SC2. He said he will never play "pro" again, yet here he is. Playing "pro" again. Funny thing is, he didnt get severly punished for the cheating, because everyone took his word for granted, that he would stop playing SC competetively.
The starcraft-community is really getting ridiculous, its not even funny anymore.
He got kicked out of this current team at the time, WeRRa. If that isn't a severe punishment then I don't know what is. What did you expect him to do, commit seppuku?

I guess Kaku put his foot in his mouth, but Bonk? He was trying to get Kaku to stop, and made it pretty clear that he didn't share the same views..Did you honestly even watch the video?
@ Dommk - Bonk just seems young and really not up to date with current trends/ styles. Some of his comments stupify me. He needs to improve also, but he caused no disrespect from what i heard.
lol, I seem young? i'm 24 T.T Can I actually ask you what comments I made that stupified you? I want to improve as a caster, and Dragons styles were something I was a little unfamilar with to be honest...
I actually think I did a pretty good job of analyzing the play, despite all of the drama surrounding things. If you're looking for another point of view on the entire event though...
I would also kindly ask you to not start a witch hunt on the entire playhem community based on one night of casting. Have you taken the time to watch any of our other casts?
Firstly you couldnt seem to get over the fact that the 3 orbital strat can beat an all in. FYI this is a successful strat was started by MVP many many months ago. You mentioned it quite a few times and couldn't seem to fathom why it was working.
- 24 is still young
-you did well to save yourself in the heat of the moment
-dont give me this witch hunt BS, I'm standing up for the player who was unable to defend himself while he was getting backstabbed by a caster who is a member of a professional organisation.
The three orbital strat holding an all in still does amaze me, hahaha. Its actually something i'm excited to take the time to go back and watch the replay of it and figure it out a bit more. Its hard as a caster to keep up with every strat, and tvz is the matchup I dont play (as a protoss player) Can you toss me a link to the MVP game?
I guess my problem with what you said was...You kind of went "Well I never really watched playhem before, but I never will again". I am extremely sorry that your first experience with our stream was so shitty, but completely disregarding our entire organization seems poor to me. We're trying to get better, and we're trying to deal with this situation the best we can. Give us another chance before you tell everyone to never watch us again.
Also, people are saying the problem with this is that it delegitimizes SC2 as a sport. On sports talk shows (that are known for being sans-fluff) they discuss baseball players that have been known to roid up all the time. Do those players still roid? Some may, some may not, but if they did, their name is tarnished and no one thinks it's taboo to talk or joke about it even if they are cleaning their act up. In basketball all sports shows talked about Kobe's off the court problems for the longest time. If you have cheated, your name becomes associated with cheating. Forever. Sorry. That's how it is. Pete Rose from baseball will never be known as a great baseball player even though he was a great player. You say the difference is Katu is supposed to be like Al Michaels or John Madden during a game, and not like a talk show host? I say bullshit, every SC2 cast is both play by play, analysis, and also SC2 related commentary and entertainment. It's REALLY not that serious. It was wrong, and he should feel sorry about it, and he does. That's it. There is no need for all this other drama. And there is definitely no need for Playhem to over-respond like they did. I will not respect Dragon as much if he takes Playhem up on their offer.

Oh, yeah, that.. Big deal in korea, is it? Because there are no other teams which would gladly take him, right? Like.. Help me, which team did he join shortly after? Did you follow the boxing scene in the last weeks, and the scandal around David Haye and Dereck Chisora? Wanna talk about "severe" punishments again?
Im not saying that he should face the same punishment as these guys, but what im saying is that there was no punishment to speak of. At all.

Way blown out of proportion, the caster should apologize after the dust clears in a couple of days and Dragon shouldn't accept the offer. Much ado about nothing, case closed.

So pathetic how your personal relationships blind you from the bigger picture, which is to make esports into a more serious, reputable event to the mainstream. You want to see Starcraft on your tv? So do I, but this type of slandering is unacceptable. If you don't mind this type of trolling, that's fine but don't think e sports will become reality if you tolerate this type of behavior.
Artosis, on SOTG, once talked about how players in the lobby would bash him for delay of game or whatever. That of course would put him in a bad mood but Artosis sucks it up and casts the game and has to be unbiased and not slander TE player who just bashed him. Artosis realizes that AS A CASTER YOUR JOB IS TO CaST AND ANALYZE the game playing, NOT to troll the chat and slander a participant. You can't take the heat? Then get out the kitchen. But you say esports isnt even that big yet do Katu can act this way. Like I said I don't care if you accept t, but don't expect "e-sports" to go anywhere. More than half of all these posts and so called counter arguments are laughable and not even remotely feasible, just retarded opinions that are as bad as reddit pitchforks.
Edit: I say both sides are bad because pitchforks are extreme and I believe Katu deserves a second chance with time
Edit: iPhone has the worst keyboard and the most retarded spellcheck
I dont think my personal relationship blinds me to this situation. Trust me, i'm more stressed about this right now then most people. You have every right to bash people, and Katu made a huge mistake and people should be mad. Im just trying to get people to realize that he isn't some sort of super villian, and that we as a community can look at the whole picture of who he is before throwing him to the curb.
But it seems like your post was just meant to inflame people and insult both sides, i'm not really sure why i'm bothering to respond...
On February 29 2012 06:20 Oreo7 wrote: Why does he keep saying he was joking or trolling? It didn't seem that way to me at all. I heard someone accusing Dragon of cheating....
There was a seed of true curiousity as to why Dragon responded the way he did, but the tone in which he said it sounded like a joke to me.
Lol honestly I don't know Dragon's reputation besides the fact that he's a top level master terran, neither do I know much about either of these casters.
But Katu was just really unproffessional, he's intentionaly tries to anger the chat which is never a sign of a good... anything lol.

Did you just compare verbal comments to a police officer shooting someone?
Why not, the person who got shot didnt die. Katu tried to kill dragons name. Obviously people who were already fans or know about the incident know that katu was retarded and wont be affected by his comments. but as you can see in this thread, lots of people believe what katu say is true, and now more people are even accusing dragon of stream cheating. Trying to destroy someones career is much worse then being shot and injured.
They are nowhere near the same thing. If you really believe so then I didn't realize that there were people as ignorant as you.
I would go on, but I'd rather not waste my time on stupidity.

Bunker above the ramp, made a factory right next to his barracks to go reactor hellion, but made siege tanks instead. Dragon was already known as a stream chater, and possible map hacker, so you can't really blame Katu.
I wonder if the korean forums will pick up on this. They sure as hell won't be so forgiving of Dragon.
it was indeed quite weird that dragon suddenly decided to make a techlab on his factory instead of a reactor...
The bunker was even stranger. Why would he build it on top of the ramp and not in his nat? The bunker starts just as the Roach warren completes.
Either way what Katu did wasn't anything outrageous. I think the community should forgive him. Can't blame the guy for accusing a cheater as a cheater.
Boy, thats a great attitude. Once a cheater always a cheater? People never change or reform right? Let me guess, you support the death penalty too?
Because when the zerg scouts a reactor and factory, they go roaches very often. A lot of terran players have been doing this but skipping hellions for a quicker timing push.

Not that it really matters because I understand what you're getting at, but Kobe's problems were off the court which has nothing to do with his production on the court, and Pete Rose is known as a great player, the debate has always been whether he should be a Hall of Famer. You dont get 4200+ hits in a career in baseball because you're not a great player. Same thing with Shoeless Joe Jackson.
I guess the more comparable player would be Barry Bonds who is the poster child for steroid abuse/ie inflated stats.

Hahahaha I remember this! But it's true that casters can say bad things about the "athletes" to an extent..you can take it too far however, and people have lost their jobs or been severly punished over it. Here is one example:
