I'm not sure where my logic comes into play. It's a simple inquiry into how much TL wanted to charge. I'm sure MLG would have just paid the price if it was an insignificant amount like $20. So clearly, price was some factor in MLG's decision and not purely a 'we don't want to pay a thing.'

Clearly? So because you are sure its clearly? Your just making assumptions while the OP states:

"We believe that a PPV-only stream listing is advertising that outweighs the contribution and utility to our calendar. While MLG understood our viewpoint, they disagreed with our decision to charge for PPV stream calendar advertising."

So if you have a legit source that says otherwise your post doesn't clear up anything.

Do you really think MLG would refuse to pay an insignificant fee like $20 based on principle? Sure, I don't have any proof of this but thinking from a business perspective, I'd assume you'd want your event highlighted on the single biggest news and information site in the industry. I highly doubt if the price was insignificant MLG would refuse based on some moral principle pertaining to TL calendar policy. I mean, it seems like common sense, no?

Hey everyone, was not going to post in this thread, but just wanted to clarify one piece of information (and wow 35 pages...well done ). The price that was initially quoted was a lot of money. How much was originally offered will remain between MLG and TL, but I will say it was not an insignificant amount by any means and further negotiation did not happen because we were pretty far apart on what was proposed and what we were willing to spend. All that being said, we respect TL's position on this matter. MLG is gearing up to run an amazing show this weekend. Whether you think we're doing the right thing or not with this PPV effort, I hope those that tune in have a great experience.

Have a great weekend!

You link to GOMtv, which I have to watch on a completely different website and video player. GOM is monetizing/advertising their site, league, media player, while TL.net is getting nothing out of it...

Now MLG comes along, they want to monetize/advertise their site, league, stream service, and MLG takes some bullshit moral stance against it?

If you are charging GOM the same amount of money as you wanted to charge MLG, then that's fine. But if you are just picking and choosing who you want to advertise on your calender, then I guess i'll have to find a new resource for all upcoming events T_T.

GOM has a free stream. That is where they differ.

Is there not a free stream associated with this event?

No... read the op before posting x.x!

I asked only because I know the answer. There is a free stream. Dr.Pepper something something. Free stream of behind the scenes interviews with players etc. It is Starcraft2 related, so it should be in the calender at the very least.

And my last point. I heard that everybody will be granted a ~1-2 hour free stream view per day. So if it was linked it wouldn't redirect you to a "Credit card pls" page. You'd be watching SC2 for at least a couple hours and then you could make your own informed decision. Thanks...

This is a bit besides the point but I would be kind of pissed if i clicked a link and it wasn't games from a tournament but only a players lounge. (1 game a day doesn't make up for it).

So like I said pages ago, MLG inquired, TL gave a high price, end of story. Thats why Hot_Bid said no negotiating took place. Just an inquiry.

Meh yeah it's true. All depends on how they advertise it :p "Behind the scene look at MLG Arena in NYC!" That is fair imo lol you get what you (don't) pay for these days :p

The OP makes total sense. I don't see how it's an issue at all really. What TL describes regarding their objectives for the calendar is exactly what makes it so good. You can expect quality every time and it's a definite advantage for the streams that are able to be listed there.

Just a idea... TL puts the link on their site... and MLG pay 20$ to each redirect to their site /o/o/oo/o/o/o/

Aside from you looking immature on the highest level, you are completely misguided. MLG will pull in far more viewers, even without the stream being listed on TL.

I don't see what all the huff puff is about. It seems like the starcraft community isn't ready to support eSports. The community has become so complacent and is now taking many things for granted. Suck it up. No product will ever be free. No business can sustain itself with petty ad revenue.

Ball up or go home and play LoL.

One giant Team Liquid post about "policies."

36 pages of rambling.

All because of an event that costs TWENTY WHOLE DOLLARS.

Remind me to never get into a business where $20 is a considerable amount of money to the consumer community.

Time to go roll some pennies - hot Pockets aren't on sale this week.

Sorry to bring Twitter drama into this, but some ridiculous things are being said by the head of vVv gaming, @LordJerith. Stuff like "FU TL", calling them pandering, liars, and wanting a new community website.

In general, he is hurting his reputation by insinuating things about TL, and seems, I say seems to be, very condescending. I respect MLG and TL and their decisions, this kind of stuff is painful and bad for my health.

Peace

What's said on twitter should stay on twitter, even the chief sports reporter of the Telegraph newspaper uses random tweets from football players during match reports and other football subjects which don't involve those particular players or their teams now. It's very annoying.

I hope you guys have a good event even if i am a slightly jaded gold member.

I did not realize that VODs for Winter Arena would be free after a week. I've already paid my $15 ($20 - $5 coupon for being a Gold member), but JTV is allowing me to cancel and receive a full refund, so now I have to weigh whether I'll actually be able to watch at much of the event live to get my money's worth, or just wait a week.

As an aside, I think it's great that MLG is releasing the VODs for free after a week. As I mentioned way upstream, I wish GSL would do something like this. I am not in the right timezone to realistically be able to take advantage of the free GSL streams, which means the only way I can view the content is by subscribing. That is their right, and I am not complaining, but it is nice that the full MLG content will (eventually) be available for free.

Consider me crazy... But isn't the whole point of PPV to sell you content that you can only get at that particular moment and nowhere else?

The fact MLG is offering free VOD to me seems a bit condescending...

Well yes it is very annoying sometimes, i.e. used as "news". However, Twitter, Reddit, and TL, in no particular order, are the chief ways SC2 and esports communicate with fans and the entire community members. I am not promoting some twitter he said she said discussion, just these remarks struck a nerve that someone who owns a respected team called for a new community site and said what he did.

I wonder if hotbid told them "we're a just trying something out, just pay xxxxx$ to support us, we are furthering e-sports right there".

Anyway, I certainly respect TL's decision but it's infortunate that no agreement could be reached. We don't need people to divide over such issues when there are two tournaments the same week-end for our viewing pleasure.
And for those who really need to let some anger out, just go and fight blizzard to get Bnet 2.0.

Condescending to who? I could see how someone might gripe that all they're paying for is more timely access, but no one is forcing them to pay the PPV fee. Making VODs available at a later time seems like a great service to the community. I can't see how MLG is being condescending to anyone.

Or did you mean contradictory? If making VODs of the event available on a delay for free is contradictory, then I wish GSL was that contradictory. :-)
