What about the free Dr. Pepper stream? Will that be on the calendar?

hmm this really hurts mlg. and imo TL should just let winter arena be on the schedule because if MLG fails, it will hurt the whole scene. however, i do understand that rules are rules.

If MLG fails because TL didn`t put their event on the calendar it is totally on MLG. Not that I think this will happen at all though, as I think MLG will meet their numbers when it is all said and done.

Understandable, with emphasis on this having not gone into price negotiations so this is all based on principle.

If you are going to spend $20 to watch a tournament, then you aren't going to "forget" if you don't see it on TL. Understandable decision, but people need to realize this isn't going to have that much of an effect.

There will definitely be a number of people who would click on the side stream to watch MLG without knowing it's PPV or they forgot the date or something and they'd buy it on the spot to watch. Not sure how large that number would be, but I assume it's enough for me to disagree with your statement.

Just as MLG expects to make a profit doing what they love, they should be understanding that TL also deserves to make a profit doing what they love.
If they are offerings no content or value to TL and expect free advertising, it is clearly not a mutually beneficial arrangement.

MLG is paying for advertisement on twitch, they should be plenty willing to pay for calendar promotion on TL. It is very possible that they are greatly underestimating how much this benefits a stream. Despite all the MLG commotion and discussion, I for one don't know when the stream is starting or ending. I've become accustomed to not remember or pay attention to this, due to the amazing job TL calendar does. I'm certain many others are like me and seeing MLG on the side of TL would certainly serve as a nice reminder to buy the PPV.
Even GSL, which I have a yearly subscription to, I rely on the TL calendar and the GOM Countdown Timer to remind me when to watch.

They refer a lot how they look up to UFC. From what I notice, they run the most ads for their PPV the day of and right before their PPV event. If they aren't advertising like mad on TL, it seems like a poor marketing decision.

Me too, I sit down in my spare time look at the calender and then decide what to watch. Its like a mini TV guide over there and it is greatly appreciated. I would be sad the day I go to tune into something listed over there only for it ask for a credit card number...

Would you really prefer a TV guide that did not list PPV events to one that did?

Even TL's reasoning admits that this is an (admittedly minor) inconvenience to us, the users.

I think my cable provider gets a cut of all the PPV action that goes through their service, they wouldn't list it otherwise.

I'll admit I was thinking of a paper TV quide.

What you're describing sounds something like the referral arrangement that TL (and EG, IIRC) turned down. But without knowing the details of that arrangement, it is hard to say.

If a stream is PPV, don't link it. Fine. But at least have one of the most important SC2 events of the year up on the calendar, so people get easy access to the LR thread and the brackets.

After the first sentences I already agreed to your post. And I am quite sure about the fact that this page helps to increase viewership. (I saw so many streams without entry here at the beginning and later on; the viewership doubled mostly after listing here)
I still don't like the model of GOM, since they are using a software model which is not free, but should (not their codec, a they paying royalties?)
TL is somehow an advertising hub, so take your share...

To be honest I was trying to find when this event was going to happen earlier today. I checked the calender, took a minute looking for it then gave up. I still don't know when it is cause no LR yet.

So much unnecessary drama!
Between GSL 2012 Season 1 Solo and Team matches, MLG 2012 Season 1 matches, MLG Winter Arena matches, GSL's King of Kongs Tournament and December's AOL, I have watched so much Starcraft 2 these past 3 months and still have 1.5 months before both organizations have their 2012 season 2 events. With way more than enough games from only 2 organizations, I can go to the source to watch the events and don't require some calendar for easier access.
I feel it's comparable to folks who pirate movies - they want to watch as many movies as possible but don't want to pay for it and find a way to complain that each release in theaters or DVD/Bluray is too expensive. Meanwhile, those of us who care about quality chose what we watch and support our hobbies/passions with our income. We also understand that there's insufficient time to enjoy all the high quality releases even if we could afford 'em.

To summarize: MLG will do just fine, Hot Bid. The publicity of the main events will pull in new players much like it always has. And just like any PPV event, the hardcore/interested fans will support them and get an extra dose of awesome matches.

An aside: GOM's 2012 pricing (where even a Premium+ yearly ticket doesn't get you ever 2012 show) should be evidence that this tournament broadcasting is a business, and the best tournament organizers have to find more effective ways to monetize the business. MLG's pricing for 2012 ($20 PPV season tickets x 4 + $20 Gold membership = $100) is still much cheaper than GOM's.

So I did some computations to see if this is true.

According to my math:

GSL will have ~3,350 games this year (counted number of sets per season, multipled by 3 games for simplicity which I will hold consistent for MLG as well, and 5 seasons). A yearly monthly ticket for GSL/GSTL will cost $239.88. That's ~14 games per dollar, without including Off the Record, AoL, and other special tournaments which are included in Monthly Premium +.

MLG Arenas will have ~732 games (61 sets per tournament, 3 games per set like above, 4 seasons). The ticket for the whole year is $100 as you said. So that's 7.32 games per $1.

Based on number of games, GSL has almost twice as many games per dollar (without counting special events) than MLG.

Was bored at work so I was just curious about it :p

Plus 3/4 of MLG is adults beating on children with Koreans in da house. Who likes child abuse? Who's pay for it?

Don't see why this should be an issue... I pay for GSL and because I pay for GSL I know when their events are... If you're spending money and don't know when the events are then I'm really confused. Not listing it on the calendar will only prevent people from being disappointed to see it on there and then get redirected to MLG's terribly-constructed website and then realize they need to pay money. It should be obvious why TL requires a stream to be available to list a tourney in the calendar... who cares about the tourney if no one can watch it? Also, do my above poster... keep in mind that GOM offers almost everything for free. GSL is simply the best.

Edit: I was too slow on post... I was talking to the person who was bored at work calculating MLG v GOM costs

Yup I know GSL offers it for free that's why I loves them, just wanted to compute costs (pointless to compute 0 vs $20 right? :p )

If you get the chance to visit you'll love them even more (best SC2 related day of my life)
