It is very possible that they are greatly underestimating how much this benefits a stream. Despite all the MLG commotion and discussion, I for one don't know when the stream is starting or ending. I've become accustomed to not remember or pay attention to this, due to the amazing job TL calendar does. I'm certain many others are like me and seeing MLG on the side of TL would certainly serve as a nice reminder to buy the PPV. Even GSL, which I have a yearly subscription to, I rely on the TL calendar and the GOM Countdown Timer to remind me when to watch. They refer a lot how they look up to UFC. From what I notice, they run the most ads for their PPV the day of and right before their PPV event. If they aren't advertising like mad on TL, it seems like a poor marketing decision. Me too, I sit down in my spare time look at the calender and then decide what to watch. Its like a mini TV guide over there and it is greatly appreciated. I would be sad the day I go to tune into something listed over there only for it ask for a credit card number...

Even TL's reasoning admits that this is an (admittedly minor) inconvenience to us, the users. This decision seems to be much more about potecting the site than about protecting the users, except in the sense that we all benefit from having TL continue as a going concern.

I suppose they object to not the price point but the fact that there is no free option at the time the event takes place. Whether you agree or not, the truth is that the free stream provided is not covering many games at all. IIRC it will be the dr. pepper chan and 4 hours of games on fri+sat. Can I understand TL? yeah. PPV is just an ice bath at this time. I understand anyone not jumping in. I paid and I am looking forward to it. Consider this: if it WAS on the TL calendar, do you realistically believe it would generate a lot of sales? I don't think so. A person strictly going by the calendar will go to Assembly. And I don't blame em, just saying that those who are really interested and paying for PPV, well they already know about it.

Between GSL 2012 Season 1 Solo and Team matches, MLG 2012 Season 1 matches, MLG Winter Arena matches, GSL's King of Kongs Tournament and December's AOL, I have watched so much Starcraft 2 these past 3 months and still have 1.5 months before both organizations have their 2012 season 2 events. With way more than enough games from only 2 organizations, I can go to the source to watch the events and don't require some calendar for easier access. I feel it's comparable to folks who pirate movies - they want to watch as many movies as possible but don't want to pay for it and find a way to complain that each release in theaters or DVD/Bluray is too expensive. Meanwhile, those of us who care about quality chose what we watch and support our hobbies/passions with our income. We also understand that there's insufficient time to enjoy all the high quality releases even if we could afford 'em. To summarize: MLG will do just fine, Hot Bid. The publicity of the main events will pull in new players much like it always has. And just like any PPV event, the hardcore/interested fans will support them and get an extra dose of awesome matches. An aside: GOM's 2012 pricing (where even a Premium+ yearly ticket doesn't get you ever 2012 show) should be evidence that this tournament broadcasting is a business, and the best tournament organizers have to find more effective ways to monetize the business. MLG's pricing for 2012 ($20 PPV season tickets x 4 + $20 Gold membership = $100) is still much cheaper than GOM's.

Obviously I am a bummed out that there is no free stream. I really think some mention should be made in the calendar, even if it is not free, because it is a starcraft event, and a lot of people are participating...much like arena of legends(though later it got a free stream, it was listed before the free stream came up). Or does the journalism block have more to do with this that just the stream?

I think my cable provider gets a cut of all the PPV action that goes through their service, they wouldn't list it otherwise.

As much as it sucks that it is PPV, we will still have MLG Columbus, Arena VOD's and of course the replays for free. MLG will always have a spot on TL.net as will TL.net always have a spot in MLG productions.

I guess I should have made more clear that I meant most-if-not-all (like 5 to 8) of TL's players to hypothesize a stronger conflict between promoting their team and not promoting a PPV-only tournament Just a thought experiment. (And I know the hypothetical answer is likely that TL will promote their players, thus indirectly promoting the event, without officially listing the event on their calendar, based on their current stance.)
