I can't wait to see him in action after one month. Me neither. But moreover I can't wait for you to come up with an excuse when he doesn't deliver and say that he will do it in two months. And then three, four, five. It's the same old story. People overrate players. He is no Flash. That's the whole point isn't it. This people have earned their rights to be hyped (former BW pros, WC3 legends, ladder beasts, etc). That's where fanbases and excitement is built. Who cares if these people don't do as well as hyped? The point is that it's interesting to see how well they would do and if they can meet expectations. I'm saying the expectations have not been earned. It was nice and dandy of course that he was great in WC3. But the game was not quite that competetive. As I said, he is no Flash. No offense but how do you know Flash will do amazingly in SC2 if he switched?
On another note, Moon (as far as i know) is the equivalent of flash in WC3, and while those are different games, the same can be said for BW against SC2 despite it bearing the starcraft name

A really nice guy too. I hope he destroys everyone after he will practice more SC2 than Wc3.

Moon has the nickname "the fifth race" for a reason. He is the best Warcraft 3 player of all time - even BroodWar professionals that you so highly covet, respect Moon's ability as a professional gamer.
As people pointed out already, Moon was "part time" playing Starcraft 2 and he still did better then a lot of Korean professional gamers who did Starcraft 2 full time. Let me clarify by saying "part time": He was playing Warcraft 3 at a top tier level, travelling back and forth to China to play in major tournaments - even qualifying for WCG (which is rather difficult considering the amount of players in Korea still playing it full time at an insane level, like ReMinD).
Additionally, while he was with WMF he was expected to play Avalon Heroes and do promotional work for WeMade Entertainment.
Spirit_Moon has done more for this industry than you can comprehend apparently. Just because you hold BroodWar on a ridiculous pedestal, does not mean that you can try to discredit arguably one of the best gamers of all time. Shame on you.

Yeaaaah, I'm new to the whole e-sports thing with no prior fandom of BW or WC3, but if the line is "Moon is no Flash" I totally agree with the above. WC3 has it's god, it's Moon. BW has it's god, it's Flash.
Sure, the BW -> SC2 transition is far easier to comprehend than a WC3 -> SC2 transition, but Moon surely has great potential to do well and, like a lot of BW pros, if he can meet his skill in a previous game in SC2 we're in for exciting things.
I'm not going to hype him up like the fanboys will (and have for other players too quickly), but that doesn't mean I'm not looking forward to what Moon, who has such a great history in e-sports, can bring to the e-sport I most enjoy.

Thanks for writing this. I realize we post on a Starcraft website but a lot of the ignorance towards Warcraft III and its players is pretty bad.

This is an incredibly smart purchase on Fanatics behalf. Even if Moon doesn't perform as high as some people expect upon switching to full time SC2, he is a HUGE name in the gaming industry, and that in itself will provide enough viewing to satisfy sponsors and ultimately - revenue.
Me personally, I've never been good at RTS games so I never played any beyond custom and single player, however I have been an avid spectator of RTS for a very long time now. And this includes Warcraft 3. To me, players like Moon, Grubby and Remind will always have a special place in my heart no matter what game they are playing or how they are performing. This is the mentality of a true fan.

Grats to Moon and fnatic! But this announcement of announcement is getting meh.
|
I'd really love to see a Moon that is fully dedicated to Sc2, considering how beastly all the eu wc3 players are and how good moon has looked at times I think it could be scary to see the greatest wc3 player ever in full form.
|
Moon is probably my favorite progamer of all time but people should tone down the hype and expectations. It's been a long time since he dominated the WC3 scene so comparing him to Flash is wrong on so many levels. I would even say it'd be more accurate to compare him to Boxer. Only a rabid fanboi and/or a fnatic employee would expect him to dominate in SC2 when he hasn't been able to do so in WC3 for the last four or five years.
edit: that said, I'm super excited to see him go full time SC2. Can't wait to watch his games.

A fully dedicated Moon is something many people dream about, it would be interesting to say the least. I think he has the talent obviously to be a Code S player at the least.

Since everyone likes to cite TLPD so much, why don't we have a look at the top 5 current foreigners? Mana Kas Stephano SaSe Naniwa 4 out 5 are former War3 players. Mana being the only ex-BW player. Mana is good but his ELO is inflated due to various online tournaments (he'd still be up there, but he might not be deserving of #1, as many would agree). If you even go down the list of foreigner players, it's dominated by former war3 players. Who made it to TSL3 Grand Finals? Oh yea 2 ex-war3 players. Kind of sad how little respect many of these players get.
|
Foreigner scene is dominated by war3 players because it's the most recent successful competitive RTS game.
The real measure is the korean scene, where the top tier pros are, where clearly players with pro-BW backgrounds are dominating.
|
4 years back, I used to think that Moon was a soulless machine who just stomped tournaments left and right a little too easily because he was pretty abusive in just about any matchup, especially NvO where no foreign orc could touch him except Grubby. Now I hope he does the same with this game ^^
