HA! This made me die laughing. I think the western image issue is not with the eSports community, rather the issue is with the general populace that believes in the gaming stereotypes of poor people who live in their mothers basement. Change their opinions and then we are all set.

Gaming is socially acceptable in England. Console gaming at least. Especially this current generation because they've all grown up playing on them. People over here care so much about their consoles though that a lot don't even know what PC Gaming is nevermind E-Sports.

Sorry my friend. I was mostly referring to the United States. Here it is still considered strange to be a gamer, and there are plenty of stereotypes thrown around.

I have to agree with you, but the stereotype of the typical american gamer is very hard to shake off. I think the korean scene needs to be introduced first so others see what gamers can look like, then show them huk and all the rest

Honestly, I believe this is a fairly important point.
Would love to see an actual blog post from someone in the know, so they can expand on your idea!

The big thing that make us (Gamers/Nerds) look that bad is that in major tournaments people go there without taking showers and hang around contaminating the area with his deadly stinckness!!!

And the whole look like a dumb ass with bigger cloth that needed, or just dont even bother to llok at your closet before wearing something!, I meas.... IF WE SPEND $160 IN A GPU cant we spend 50 in clothes???? I think is not that hard!.
The Status "Quo" Is just an attemp to stop the change and evolutions of the free minded.

it's not needed

you can't force someone to change their appearance; this is esports not music.

Why should some handsome players like TLO, DeMuslim and Tasteless (DAT VOICE) go for metrosexual looks that appeal only teens? For the love of god, let them be adult and handsome like they are instead of androgynous bait for teens. The image "problem" of western gamers you're speaking of is only a perception.

I dont think OP means the metrosexual looks of the koreans, but rather that they arent looked upon like fatsos who does nothing but eat candy and play videogames all day.

So, not looking like July (burn!).

My point is this: where are the "fatsos who does nothing but eat candy and play videogames all day" among the progamers? There aren't a whole lot. Yes, there are some, but there are some Koreans who fit the same mold. The OP acts like there's a massive glut of glutenous progamers out there in the non-Korean scene, and that simply is not true.

For every "fatso" progamer, you can find 2-3 that isn't.

Weight actually matters very little. What does matter is clothing style, and this is a department in which a lot of the foreigners are severely lacking. It's probably because I did some interim jobs at clothes stores like H&M and ZEB, but I kind of cringe when I see people walking around in oversized t-shirts and hoodies, or clothes that just don't match. I cringe even more when I see progamers arrive on stage in leisure wear instead of something more stylish, something more appropriate on stage, confirming one of the clichés of a typical gamer: someone who doesn't know how to dress himself properly. It's not like dressing properly is difficult: a pair of dark blue jeans, a long sleeve shirt (slim fit if you've got the body for it) and a proper haircut and you're set.

Like someone above me said: if you can spend hundreds of dollars on computer hardware, why can't you spend 60 dollars on clothes?

There's a Dutch saying that goes: "De kleren maken de man." I can't translate it but it basically says that the way people look upon you is determined purely by the clothes you wear. It's superficial, I agree, but that's just how it is.

I realize most of you here only care about the games and the person, but image is key if we want esports to grow.

On a sidenote I'd like to add that I agree with the person that said that there are not negative effects of working out or doing sports from time to time. There's literally no reason not to do it. We're living in a culture that does most of its work while being seated. As a student I spend as much hours sitting on a chair as any progamer. I do make sure that I practice sports at least three but preferably four times a week, and I have a job that's somewhat physically demanding. I found out that the more I'm physically in shape, the more I'm mentally in shape as well. Unless you've got some kind of genetic disorder, there's really no reason for anyone to be obese.

research shows smarter people are generally more attractive than less intelligent ones. Honestly if you look at the pro gamers their all above average looking and they'ld look even better if they just went to the gym once ina while or played some sports. Honestly is the lack of effort and confidence computer nerds have in themselves that make people have the image about us. If we all go like "ey motherfucker wtf is wrong with me playing sc2? nerd? stfu ill back hand you with my mouse hand" every time someone makes fun of you for playing sc2. 90% of the time they wont fight you because most of the people taht make fun of you for a personal preference dont have very much confident in themselves and the risk of losing a fight to a "nerd" is not worth it so they'd just keep talking shit but wont do anything . 10% u get into a fight for Esports. A year or so later people be like damn those people are hardcore. and stereotype erased ^.^

Pretty much sums it up.

Although I think it would be ok for teams to encourage their players to go to the gym. It's good for the players health, good for the teams image, which means more sponsors.

But I think forcing them to do something like that is not a good idea.
