In a recent interview (in Chinese), the coach of the Chinese team Invictus Gaming, iG.EdIsOn, revealed that he is planning to organize a China Union Team to participate in GSTL after Chinese New Year (23rd, Jan).
EdIsOn said during his stay at WCG, he talked with some Korean coaches about setting up a team for GSTL. He is still in negotiation with GOMTV over some details and expects to get confirmed ASAP. Once confirmed, he will set about organizing the team. The China Union Team will consist of around five players from different Chinese teams.

Some updates (thanks to digmouse):
On December 16 2011 16:42 digmouse wrote: Some updates: Sen is not likely to be part of this Chinese Team. Negotiation among the top Chinese teams are underway, it's up to them to send players or not, currently we can only confirm most iG members will go. There is over 50% possibility that this will come true, but nothing is on the table yet. No problem at all on Korean side, even they might give Code A spots for them.
And EdIsOn said they would go to Korea in March if everything went well. So it's not likely that they will attend GSTL 2012 Season 1.

that would be sick, would love to see more chinese players compete with the best.
|
|
Oooooo this would be sickkkkkkk they would probably do really well because of an extreme focus on the team league (no individual league) and the fact there is just not that many replays and info on them.

Mmmm..
Chinese players gogo!

It would be a dream come true if XiaOt and MacSed both play for China Union Team.

Wow, that would be awesome!!

That's... awesome. I'd love to see more of xiaOt coaching MacSed, XiGua and all the rest of the great Chinese players that haven't had the chance to play that much and show their skill

I'm all for this. China vs. Korea would be a good selling point to get even more people to see the games. We also would get to see how the Chinese players have improved after saying they aren't far off from the Koreans; see if they can put up or shut up.
I would guess that the final team would probably be EG or an American/European team.
|
nice, more foreigners in Korea is good for global eSports!
|
Finally, a team with Protoss and Zerg centric.

It would be great to see Chinese players in GSTL, especially after their good run in WCG 2011 (3 players in the Top 16).
|
Nice hopefully this move into Korea means we will see more Chinese gamers in other foreign events such as MLG or DreamHack soon!

Ah, that'd be super exciting! XiGua, Uhen, MacSed, Loner, and Infi?

中国!!! GLHF, I really hope to see China step up to the plate and make international esports more interesting. Plus, I'm in China now and plan on living in China a lot in the future, would love to see a growing group of sc2 fans here so I can hang out with them :D
|
yes yes yes! Fucking great! CHina has such amazing players!
|
Nice. We see very little of the Chinese players outside of China, so any opportunity to see more of the Chinese style is a good thing in my books.
|
Great news! Hoping to see Xigua, Loner, F91 and co. playing! Gogo and do it!
|
Holy check! More chinese exposure and potential to really engage the huge chinese market, awesome!

Would be amazing - so many more opportunities to see these Chinese stars in action
|
Would be really cool! We see too little of ''China Style'' as it is ^^.
|
More international competition in the GSTL would be really great and maybe we will have some Chinese player in the GSL Code S tournament. Go China!

I approve of this message and I hope to see them in the next GSTL!
|
That would be really awesome. I am really looking forward to this!
|
Awesome, the Chinese players have really impressed me so far and I hope they can continue to improve and be competitive with the Koreans!
|
My prediction of players in this team:
- XiGua - Invictus Gaming. Arguably the greatest Chinese player and one of the "really fucking scary" Zergs. Seeing as he got a 2nd place finish in WCG 2011, I think he'd be wanting to flex his SC2 muscles in more international events.
- LoveCD - World Elite. Not much known about him, a Chinese player who lost 4 - 1 to MC in a StarsWar invitational tourney.
- Sen - Gama Bears. A Taiwanese team and player but I have a feeling if Sen's coming back to the GSL as a Code S invitee, they might try and get in touch with Gama Bears and ask them for permission to include Sen in their coalition team.
- Lyn - Pandarea Gaming (not technically Chinese but part of a Chinese team. Seeing as he was one of the seriously recogniseable Korean WC3 players, they would probably try and sign him.
- Ace - Pandarea Gaming. Another former WC3 player, supposedly really good in the Chinese scene.
|
XiaoT doesnt play SC2 as progamer anymore, even coaching. iG's coach is iG.EdIsOn now. I guess the team is iG centric, may includes iG.XiGua, iG.MacSed and iG.XY (a potential Terran player who is really famous among chinese community). Another two maybe WE.Loner and WE.LoveCD because iG's coach EdIsOn had been their coach for a long time when he was in WE and they are really familiar. LoveTT said he had no interest in foreign tournaments (GSL) I remember.
|
I really hope they figure it out and actually form a team. Hopefully with more than 5 members. Something like 7-8 would benefit them more in GSTL.
|
It's always nice to see a foreigner team try and compete with the Korean heavy-hitters. I think they'll do well if they get stacked up
|
This better happen. I wanna see F91 destroying peeps again.
|
On December 16 2011 02:10 DarkPlasmaBall wrote:It's always nice to see a foreigner team try and compete with the Korean heavy-hitters. I think they'll do well if they get stacked up So far, only two foreigner teams have ever competed in the GSL. FXOpen (before they assimilated fOu into their team) and F. United. F United was in reality a coalition of several players whom had made it into the GSL such as Fenix, ThorZaIN and NaNiwa and three players from the now defunct Korean team WeMadeFOX.
Both teams rarely showed nuggets of brilliance, such as when Fenix and Qxc committed all-kills. Otherwise, they were victims to ROFLstomps.

pretty solid, but Ace has been inactive from competetive scene for a while, this spot might be LoveTT, also you should count F91 and Macsed in.
my roster are: XiGua Macsed Uhen F91 LoveTT Sen

Would be awesome! I also hope and pray for Gamma Bears to play GSTL !!!

what would be the lineup? (hope to see F91 somewhere )

It seems one does simply walk into Mordor GOM's competitions.
Can't we have a stable team lineup for GSTL, we'll never get to Proleague level this way.

Chinese players have the mindset and environment to become world class level. All they need is a place to practice and compete.

XioaT, MacSed, Uhen, Jim, F91, XiGua.

That's what people said about FXO, except worse.
|
I dont understand the hype surrounding Chinese players. Everytime they show up in the international scene, they disappointed. The performance at IEM was lackluster, while Xigua couldnt justify his non-korean run to final by playing like silver against mvp. And like someone mentioned above, GOM should not just invite random foreign teams to GSTL for the sake of making it more attractive to foreign viewership. The team should have long-term plan in Korea and some connection with the Korean scene at least.

The more countries that get in the gstl, the better and more interesting it will become.

I don't want to say this. But nowadays I find the Chinese SC2 pros are ridiculous. People in China had high expectation to the chinese pro players before, before Lyn won both champion title of G-league a few months ago, War3 champion and SC2 in one season! I think it's a really a shame of those pro players in China, both War3 and SC2 pro players. Actually this is not the only case, just before lyn won the two titles, another War3 players infi had won both War3 and SC2 champion title in G-league. Infi is only a war3 player, he has not completely switch over yet. I don't know I should feel glad or what, in the most recent WGT in China, in the semi-final match, infi beat lyn, who had knocked Xigua out. If you want me to pick one that has the brightest future on SC2 in China, I guess I'd have to choose Infi, a pro war3 player, who hasn't claimed to swtich to SC2 yet at the moment.

As a chinese, I feel glad that some people have high hope on Chinese SC2 players. But in my opinion, there aren't many top players in China at the moment, and I don't think there will be at least in one year. There would be on these two possible situations though: 1. That SC2 becomes extremely popular in China, like dota. Last time I heard the chinese dota is invincible. Because it is even more popular than war3 itself. However, I don't see it is happening. 2. As we all can see, if you really want to get good, you need to train in Korea. So if there are determined chinese player that would like to train and compete in Korea, it's possible he get really good.
No.2 seems to be the only option.

Maybe it won't even matter since the GSTL doesn't have the same Olympic feeling that WCG has.
The Chinese only get mad at WCG when a Taiwanese person gets a medal and gets to hold up the "Chinese Taipei" flag. They don't like the fact that Taiwan is represented by a flag as they don't recognize it as a sovereign country.

While there may be a lot of tension in politics between China and Taiwan, their celebrities are often both seen as "Chinese" - top Taiwanese pop-stars, e.g. Jay Chou, Wang Lee Hom, often sing about their pride for China, and they sing the majority of their songs in Mandarin, not Taiwanese dialect, so their mainland fans can understand their songs.

SC2 is negligible both in China and South Korea compared to War3 and BW, respectively. However, Korea has a huge advantage in having a bigger SC2 scene and having BW, which is in every manner a pro sport in Korea, as the model for how to practice and organize (particularly team houses and regimens), etc. Not to forget that the bigname SC2 Korean players are BW veterans, albeit most were quite subpar BW players at the time of switching, except perhaps ForGG (although even he was on the verge to falling B-Team, though it's not surprising when Flash and Mind are on your team).
That said, if War3 dies tomorrow in China, and all the War3 players switch to SC2, I can see China region being the 2nd best in the world in SC2 after Korea. Now? They're kinda meh. Sure, they're probably better than NA (excluding Huk and maybe Idra), but that's not saying too much .
Now when BW is converted to SC2 in Korea? First, kiss all the current SC2 Korean stars goodbye (yes, even I will dearly miss some of them), and secondly, good Korean players will be untouchable by foreigners.
Well, good luck to the Chinese GSTL team. I don't know if they can stand up to many of the Korean teams, but we'll see :S.

Also, F91 was casting GSL with the normal NeoTV guy yesterday. He said he wasn't afraid of MVP (on ladder) and has beaten him on ladder (not big deal, but fun to know).
As for China vs/inc Taiwan, the Mainland populace is a split between "One China, it's a province of China and it always has been and always will be." and "Why didn't my grandpa go with the KMT to Taiwan way back when? TT" We love them mostly as brethren though, their music, their movies, their TV, and their progamer(s), just that some of us can't accept them as a sovereign nation. Just seems the Mainland (people and government) sort of are fine with the status quo that is Taiwanese ambiguity.
(Inappropriate but most suitable analogy I can think of: Democrats and Republicans engage in civil war, Dems drive GOP to Alaska. GOP claim Alaskan independence, Dems claim One USA! China sells weapons to Alaska.)

That's so incredible, china is key to esports, this is so incredibly awesome, a massive talent pool will enter the global stage.

I wouldn't know anything about the pro teams at all about their feelings toward Sen.
The Chinese Government doesn't, but the people do not represent the government. Though I don't know what regular Chinese Citizen's opinion of Taiwan is though.
I'd say that the vast majority of Chinese people, young and old, naturally and instinctively recognize Taiwan as a part of China.

Nice! There is so many good players coming from China, they can def compete with the koreans.

if it was a wc3 tournament or dota chinese teams have some of the best wc3/dota teams. There were a couple noticeable ones in bw, Chinese player base is fucking huge. So I would expect alot to be pretty top level considering some probably play on korean server since the beginning.

The player base isn't that huge. BW and W3 were huge in China because they were free and didn't require a high end computer and could be played online with lan latency thanks to private b.net servers (I remember back then, each city/province had its own private b.net server, so sick). SC2 is the total opposite.
But yeah, WCG results were pretty convincing, China does have very talented players, and I expect the Chinese team to do well. Hope that Sen will join !

"E-sports": Xiaose (Chinese commentator of NeoTV, the channel that braodcasts GSL in China) said that you play about 80 games per day and that you have a smurf account that's ranked #1 in the Korean server. Some updates: Sen is not likely to be part of this Chinese Team. Negotiation among the top Chinese teams are underway, it's up to them to send players or not, currently we can only confirm most iG members will go. There is over 50% possibility that this will come true, but nothing is on the table yet. No problem at all on Korean side, even they might give Code A spots for them.

This would be a beastly line up, props to gsl for allowing this and props to the organisers on the chinese side. china is perhaps the only country that could potentially beat korea at starcraft, and potentially the biggest esports market in the world. they already have the work ethic and mentality, so just look at what they've done to dota. hopefully this will accelerate starcraft's popularity in that country.
also for the people chiming in on china/taiwan relations, most young people view both as ethnic chinese, and thats good enough for them. tensions only flare during elections when politicians try to rile up nationalism for votes.

Cool stuff, likely the Chinese teams can show us some creative plays, the games I've seen of them are pretty wild. However, they'll need to catch up mechanically relative to all the other players in the GSL, even the other foreigners.

I dont often see the Chinese in many tournaments really only the one IEM in Ghanzhou (or how ever it is pronounced / spelled >.<) and Blizzcup. Don't believe they actually pretty sure they didnt reach the final and a foreigner won on their own soil... so based on those 2 im formulating that yea they're good but would get demolished in the GSTL against powerhouses like SlayerS, IM, ST, TSL, and Prime. (I acknowledge I may be wrong on the results but that still dosnt really change my opinion that they would get demo'd by these unfathomably strong Korean teams.

fenix all killing IM and other foreigner sucesses in GSTL prove you wrong, they may not be a finals candidate but definetely make up for good games.

they spread empty checks.
xiaOt said he would participate in gsl 2011 tour. and now it's time for edison.

the big problem in China. SC2 is not really more ppl love it. they love Dota, LOL, CrossFire or MMO, so sad to me. Even no one play sc2 in public Netbar. Netbar is most important way for spreading sc2 in China. BLZ and Netease do nothing on it.
|
I really hope China gets to give it a try. Hopefully 5 players would be a starting point. I could definately see them picking up more players as they go. I just don't see how these Chinese teams would let their players go for such a long period of time. Might as well set up some sort of tenative loan deal. Who knows these players might end up qualifying for GSL further down the road or want to switch over to a Korean team to further extend their stay. Also I hope to see foreigner players return and try to make the GSTL roster for their respective Korean teams. GSTL hype!!!! It will always be my favorite team league to watch!

this is the most confusing part....sigh..... why does English have to use the exact same word for so many different meaning?? you can never explain this clearly in English when language, nationality, race are all sharing an identical vocabulary
Taiwanese speaks Chinese(Mandarin) Taiwanese are mostly Chinese(ethnically) Taiwan is not a part of "People Republic of China" Taiwan is also known as "Republic of China" or "Chinese Taipei" or "Separate Customs Territory of Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen and Matsu"(this long stupid name is what we are forced to use to enter WTO)

I can't imagine the BroodWar scene there has just disappeared. China had a BW scene? I didn't know that. I do know however that Warcraft 3 >> SC2 in China, just within the RTS genre.
Lol Brood War is probably currently bigger than SC2 right now in China.
With players like Pj and Lx, China was probably the second strongest BW country, but that really doesn't say much because Korea was so so far ahead of everyone else, in the sense that if you picked the one hundred best BW players in the world, they'd more likely than not be all Korean.

British is not a race, it is a nationality. And you can't even say Americans are Caucasian. Too many people in US are not white. If you are not from PRC or Taiwan, I definitely know better than you on that issue.

Quite interesting. Well, if and when Chinese BW converts to SC2, and by some ungodly miracle War3 switches to SC2 as well, I have little doubt China could also be the second best SC2 country.
In regards to the huge BW gap between Korea and everyone else, we'll probably see just the same if and when BW in Korea switches over to SC2. Keep your eyes on Kespa, boyo. Some BW teams are already playing SC2. Within a year or two, who knows, Kespa and the teams could decide it is time to switch to SC2. Surely then, Oblivion will open.

Chinese players could gain a lot by having more Korean experience, their style is too secluded to their region, they will be much stronger through constant competitions with international scene. Without much exposure to international scene, they are already better than 90% of the foreigners, with more exposure to int scene, learning of more styles and such will make them much stronger.

I really hope China does well if they participate in GSTL just so that more people in China might start to play...

I really really want china and more foreign teams to play in the gstl

Sky needs to quit WC3 and just start playing SC2 so he doesn't miss an opportunity like this!

China -was- the second strongest BW country. But BW is dead in China now.
BW is definitely not bigger than SC2 in China, since SC2 has a few leagues and a decent number of progamers, whereas BW is completely dead.

The Chinese BW "pro scene" is completely dead. Everyone's either switched over or retired, but the game itself is, as far as I know, more commonly played and watched, as in, a good amount of people follow the Korean pro scene. As far as internet cafes go, BW is definitely far more prevalent.

Legend and PJ retired. PJ got married and Legend is mainly playing poker. The Chinese proleague (G-League) already switched to SC2, so yeah the Chinese BW scene is completely dead. The thing is, the current SC2 scene isn't one tenth as big as BW scene used to be, mainly because the game can't be played in LAN and can't be played in PC bangs for free. At the meantime since almost everyone from BW or W3 (W3 was huge in China) who didn't retired or switched to poker, is now playing SC2, so all people with a lot of potential and/or RTS experience are now playing SC2, and based on WCG results, I'd still say that China is still the #2 Starcraft nation.

glade to see some many ppl here love to see Chinese team in GSTL. yes, China fighting ~

The chinese players are good but they will need alot of training to compete at GSL levels.
Well mvp just made them look easy but I bet some cane survive the GSL league.

The GSTL is looking to become an absolutely enormous league now, and this Chinese team is just going to make it better. I personally like the team v. team format better then 1v1. Something about the two teams facing off makes it seem like more of a legitimate "sport". Team leagues in general like the IPL Team Arena Challenge are starting to become bigger as well. However, I think there needs to be a much larger team leagues which has teams from Europe, Korea, and North America participating. The GSTL is almost exclusively Korean and the IPL team leagues sometimes are missing large teams. I just think a massive team league would be really exciting. (I'm looking at you MLG! lolz)

Oh, just noticed the GSTL is a month later. While I wish the best for the Chinese team, I have to stand by the Emperor, and the Empire (Slayers team). Seeing as Ulfric doesn't play SC2, I'm going to have to side with the Empire this time around, but dang, Ulfric is such a badass .

Sen has stated his country as Taiwan using google map on his stream before. It clearly showed his political tendency, so it's not surprised that Sen refused to join "China" Union. He might be good friends with Chinese progamers, but Taiwan/China problem is much more serious.

Sen's represented China before.
China vs Prime clan war in beta.
Politics has no place in any of this. Sen used to be the only Taiwanese on a team full of mainland Chinese players back in BW. They treated him like a friend and just another Chinese player. They didn't care about what the ROC government which rules the island that Sen happened to have been born on thought. Likewise, Taiwanese Starcraft fans didn't launch terrorist attacks just because Sen was on a team with a bunch of Chinese players or because Sen represented "China" in a clan war.

The official name of the government in Taiwan is "Republic of China" and the current ruling party is the KMT aka the "Chinese Nationalist Party". Foreigners really should take some history lessons before they discuss politics about the cross strait relations.
Taiwan is a part of China. Mainlanders and Taiwanese share the same language, culture, and history, the only difference is whether the ruling party of China should be the Comunist Party (from Mainland) or the Nationalist Party (from Taiwan) which of course the communist party has the advantage.
Sen is considered Chinese to me and many Chinese SC fans. I only consider the indeginous aborigines of Taiwan to be real "Taiwanese"

This is politically correct, yes, but more or less implied by previous posts. Despite being the same country being contested by two rival governments, they are practically two sovereignties and it's easier usually to just say China and Taiwan. I'm a mostly patriotic Chinese but such serious politics unnecessarily complicate things on a Starcraft forum.

Yeah for some odd reason, westerners seem to think that China and Taiwan are analogous to North Korea and South Korea.
It's probably more analogous to Canada and the US. You can travel freely between China and Taiwan just like how you can travel freely between Canada and the US. Mainland China and Taiwan share the exact same cultural heritage and a common history. Every Taiwanese student has studied Chinese literature and Chinese history for most of their life, since elementary school. 98% of Taiwanese people, essentially everyone except for aboriginals, have ancestry somewhere in Mainland China. Taiwanese and Chinese films, tv series, and music are all promoted on both sides of the strait. Some Taiwanese, mostly the younger ones, might get irked when you call him Chinese, just like how a Canadian might get offended if you call him American, but that's only because they don't want to associate themselves with the communist government. There are many many totally different terms in Chinese that are all translated into English as "Chinese person" (citizen of the Middle Kingdom, descendant of the Yellow Emperor, descendant of the Han Dynasty, etc etc). When a Taiwanese person refers to himself as being "not Chinese", he's more likely than not referring to the fact that he's not a citizen of the People's Republic of China. There are certain Chinese terms that are translated as "Chinese" that almost no Taiwanese person can deny as what they are. The very same Republic of China government that brainwashed three generations of Taiwanese to hate the communists also shoved Chinese culture down their throats, choking out any sort of regional Taiwanese identity.

That said, there's a thousand possible reasons why Sen didn't choose play with them. Maybe he's too busy for the GSTL, which is a huge dedication, or doesn't like a couple players on the team. I know he played with a Chinese team in BW, so it isn't like he's some jingoist who hates China or something to the point he's not willing to play with Chinese players. Assuming it's because he hates China and Chinese folks is taking it a bit too far.

as a Taiwanese, i found most of these correct
culturally and ethnically Chinese and Taiwanese are almost identical we study Chinese history, Chinese literature and Chinese philosophy we don't deny being culturally Chinese, we are nothing if we do so we are proud of it
there are many ways to say that in Chinese, but English translate almost all of those vocabulary or phrase into the same one......"Chinese" like "華人"-descendant of Chinese (ethnically) "漢人"-descendant of Han Dynasty as the previous post say "中文"-Chinese (language) "中國人"-Chinese (nationality)
so it is both right and wrong to call a Taiwanese "Chinese" in so many ways we are Chinese, but in others we are not and this fact will also be true in a lot of Asian countries
and to make it clear, Taiwanese have been calling ourselves Chinese less in recent years most of the time, we preferred to be called Taiwanese
the majority of Taiwanese don't actually hate Chinese people we just don't like their government bully us in international events

As far as I know, the Taiwan/China relationship tends to get blown up out of proportion compared to other relationships China has with places like Tibet or some of the far western provinces. I could be wrong though.

"Mandarin" is actually a word originated from Indian language, meaning "officer" or "official". Western colonists adopted this word during their time in asia to describe the "offcial language" that Chinese officers speaks. Unlike the English or other latino language, Chinese characters emphasize more about the meaning rather than pronunciation. This result into a situation that ppl speak differently across the contry while there's only one form of written language. Mandarin is the way spoken in northern China area and used as a standard nowadays.
To explain this in more detail. People in bay area probably can tell if someone has a New York accent, but wont have any difficaulty to understand their speakings. Even for more distant land such as Austrilia or even Indian/Chinese immigrant who's not very fluent with English this is not a significant problem b/c English language itself can be read as it is. Without using Mandarin as a standard a Shanghainese just cannot vocally communicate with a Cantonese, despite that they probably read posts from eachother on forum everyday.
Chinese language by its written form is the most influencial language in asia area. Japanese retain about 2000 "kanji" (Chinese character) in daily use, and even in modern Korea Chinese characters are the formal way of writting, Korean language in everyday use is acutally an artifically language that specifically designed to lower the rate of illiteracy (Korean express the pronunciation, like english).
After KMT retreat from mainland, Mandarin has became the standard Taiwanese language. A Beijinger would have difficualty to understand what a Cantonese is talking, but can commuticate with Taiwanese w/o the slightest trouble, just because of Mandarin.

The very same Republic of China government that brainwashed three generations of Taiwanese to hate the communists also shoved Chinese culture down their throats, choking out any sort of regional Taiwanese identity. as a Taiwanese, i found most of these correct culturally and ethnically Chinese and Taiwanese are almost identical we study Chinese history, Chinese literature and Chinese philosophy we don't deny being culturally Chinese, we are nothing if we do so we are proud of it there are many ways to say that in Chinese, but English translate almost all of those vocabulary or phrase into the same one......"Chinese" like "華人"-descendant of Chinese (ethnically) "漢人"-descendant of Han Dynasty as the previous post say "中文"-Chinese (language) "中國人"-Chinese (nationality) so it is both right and wrong to call a Taiwanese "Chinese" in so many ways we are Chinese, but in others we are not and this fact will also be true in a lot of Asian countries and to make it clear, Taiwanese have been calling ourselves Chinese less in recent years most of the time, we preferred to be called Taiwanese the majority of Taiwanese don't actually hate Chinese people we just don't like their government bully us in international events
Mainland and Taiwan are rule by different government, that has been a fact for more than 60 years. The complication is the majority of mainlander and about half Taiwanese actually think there should only be one China, the current situation is just a left over by unfinished civil war. From PRC's perspective, seeking to participate in international events AS INDEPENDENT COUNTRY is touching the buttom line and denying the future possibility of re-unite (for example, participating WCG as independent contry).
Actually there's something called 1992 consensus to address this issue, which is probably really hard to understand by ppl not much involved in this issue. What it says is basically both sides agree that there's only one China, but represent this very "China" differently. PRC agrees that Taiwan is eligible to get invovled with international events as the Taiwan province of ROC, in return Taiwan cease to seek for identity as independent county in those events. The offically name of Taiwan team in Olympic games is actually Chinese Taipei, and the Olympic flag is actually raised per there're any Taiwan medalist.
After all this is probably one of the most complicated political issue ever existed. There's really no hate between mainlanders and Taiwanese, but both side fell into politic tarpit and struggling to make a move without hurting other aspect of the existing order. We sc2 lovers shall not complicate this furthur more and simply enjoy the game.

They couldn't in the past, because the Taiwanese government was the old Chinese government that fled from Mao, giving them a main seat in the UN, and today both countries are a part of UN, so they cant

This is very misleading. Taiwan, or ROC, is NOT part of UN. PRC replaced ROC's position as permanent member of UN security concil in 1971.
