Also, since Naniwa earned his Code S spot in MLG Providence, shouldn't that spot be given to the next guy that wasn't already in Code S? Here are the final results: 1st Leenock 2nd NaNiwa 3rd DongRaeGu 4th Mvp 5th HuK 6th MC 7th HayprO 8th IdrA In theory, HayprO deserves that Code S spot more than IdrA. Wonder what GOM's true reasons were... but as other said it seems that the GSL is just a popularity contest now. I don't know, may be they want to give it back to him since he gave it up one point in time? Or that he'll draw a huge amount of viewers like he did previously. The only time I watched GSL religiously was when IdrA and Jinro were in it. It seems like I'm going to have to start doing that again.

I went as far as to accept the idea of handouts being given for Code A qualifications because yes, it's hard for foreigners to go through the whole process etc etc... A Code S handout is waaay to massive to ignore, I'm not okay with players being given a free ride to the most prestigious tournament in the world. IdrA having Code S way back when means nothing considering how drastically it's changed, someone who consistently performed better than IdrA(Jinro) can't even make Code A now. GOM is essentially discrediting the value of Code S by giving it out for free. It is not as if Sen and Idra are no name pros with no success under their belts. Both are some of a few foreigners that usually perform reasonably well against Koreans. So I would not say they were given Code S for FREE. Moreover, this is more of a business decision to attract more viewers. I would agree that there are other players more deserving but this decision makes a lot of sense from a business standpt to grow the GOM brand.

If they where to decide not to invite Naniwa to Code S as a punishment (which is a joke in itself, he didnt break any rule) - why not leave the spots out for January, or it least let some top foreigners play it out instead of randomly invite 2 of the top 10 foreigners?

BlizzCon 3rd place, NASL season 1 & 2 3rd places are not simple qualifications, why don't you try to get that resume before you apply for your free-to-code-S pass? No, you are wrong by being overly simplistic on your assessment of the situation.

Sen IS TOP foreigners. It's not GOM's fault that Stephano declines the idea of playing in GSL. Sen DID finished 3rd place at BlizzCon, while Naniwa finished 4th. Of many tourneys (BlizzCon, NASL season 1 and season 2) Sen participated, top 2 finishes are all Koreans, leaving Sen 3rd place, doesn't that mean Sen IS the top foreigner?

A season based tournament with qualifications and two different ranks kinda loses it's meaning if they just invite popular foreigners that completely bypass the extremely difficult qualification process to achieve code S.

That's somewhat irrelevant to me because they haven't earned Code S as it is now through the regular channels. Being popular and somewhat successful doesn't mean you deserve Code S, particularly just because you're a foreigner. For this reason, I thought placement into the Up/Downs was the most sensible course of action. I liked that at MLG, the Code S spot was not foreigner-specific and was limited to the top three. That gave Code S weight and worth. This strips that weight and worth entirely. It's acceptable to seed foreign players into the qualifiers because it's genuinely harder for them to make that kind of effort for little reward, while the Koreans can just attempt to qualify on their home turf. Placing someone directly into Code S is way too generous in comparison to Korean players who have performed much better than their foreign counterparts in foreign tournaments, but were unable to find success at home.

Naniwas hurting foreigners? i think being babied and given hand out code S spots is ruining the integrity of GOM more then then losing a meaningless match that should have never been played. There are plenty of Idra fans who would gladly pay for subscriptions to replace your place. Besides, GOM and Koreans have the east Asian culture that stresses respect, status quo, and professionalism. That kind of value is something Western culture has failed to understand. Therefore, it's not a meaningless match, ask any football fans in the US who support teams that have already failed to make the playoff. As to your "free hand out" assessment, why don't you look at Sen's resume? You should get a BlizzCon 3rd place finish, NASL season 1, and NASL season 2 3rd place finishes before you ask for your free-to-code S-pass. Stop being overly simplistic.
