What was the basis for giving Idra and Sen a spot?

Not saying neither of these guys deserve this opportunity, because we all agree they are both fantastic players, but Naniwa worked very hard to be given the chance at that spot (not that it was set in stone), even committing to his stay in Korea (giving up all the potential prize money from foreign tournaments in the process, which doesn't support the "naniwa is a money hunter" argument).

I think the "IdrA being the most popular foreigner" argument is irrelevant, he had a Code S spot before he left for NA, it's only right that he be allowed the chance to return.

He had a code S spot like half a year ago that he forfeited. Why should he get a invite back again, essentially bypassing the currently much harder qualification rounds?

I think it's a sign of good-will from GOM to the people outside of Korea, even if most won't see it that way. While they punish Naniwa, they give code S to Idra and Sen with the mindset of "hey, we still respect other people from foreign countries, let's give these popular players a chance".

It feels like a handout to me. It isn't fair to the great players still stuck in code A/B either. People lost interest in NASL S2 becuse there were no koreans and now GOM give away spots in the most prestigious SC2 tournament to foreigners. Everything seems messed up somehow.

idra was code s when he left and he was never out of code s technically so rly don't see how is it a handout
and oh u r swedish.....

I like how me being swedish automatically makes my argument invalid. The fact is that Idra left and it's not like GOM saved his spot. If someone quits a tournament and is away for 5 or 6 consecutive "seasons" it's weird that he gets his spot back. The competition is much tougher now and just getting a spot back isn't fair to the players who struggled for months in code A/S while Idra was away. Clear enough, or does my home country prevent me from thinking clearly?

Why Sen and not Stephano?

While i would love to see Idra and Sen in code S, i think its total bullshit how they just get a by straight there with not even a match needed to be played, am actually pretty disgusted tbh. You have players like Losira, July, Polt etc battling it out in the up and downs, while you have 2 less accomplished(in korea) players not even playing a game just skip right by them, whats the justification for this?

Idra has been acting more professionally and better overall compared to Naniwa for a some time now. You really can't deny that.

The old Idra everyone knows, is pretty much gone. Especially in offline tournaments.

Hope thats a joke, in the last mlg he was flamming a 16 year old he lost to.

No, i'm not joking. I don't know the case you are talking about, but Idra has been improving his behavior and all the problems he has had. All that shit the "Old Idra" did months ago are pretty much gone. Some situations still occur, but not as much as before.

He has worked with his attitude, professionalism and problems he had in game, leaving early and disrespecting people and such. Yes, he does that in online tournaments but i'm mainly talking about offline tournaments here. Naniwa hasn't done literally anything if you look at it. Thats why he is very hard to work with, we've heard it multiple times and the recent "proof" of that was when Complexity sold his contract.

I'm not saying it's a great or best invite/replacement or anything, but Idra has improved a lot when it comes to these things. At least he is trying and has succeed with it.

I think gom's logic goes as follows:
Idra never lost his Code S spot(technically)
Sen actually qualified for Code S back in season 3; however, chose not to attend due to personal reasons.
These two actually qualified for code S more than anyone in the lower brackets

If this decision to give Idra and Sen a Code S spots was as arbitrary as I think it is, then this entire tournament and organization is starting to feel like a joke. First, Naniwa loses his spot because apparently he's guilty of some completely arbitrary definition of "abusive behavior" and now they just randomly decide to give Idra and Sen a spot (most likely because they have large fanbases) over plenty of more deserving players.

No offense but giving Idra and Sen code s spots for free has to be a joke right? Even if they would both have been performing amazingly lately ( which they haven't) it's still not right to give out code S spots like this. They have handed them out before to top3 at MLG and now suddenly they come for free? This is a really really bad move by GOM and should have been handled differently

Yea ofcourse very logical. Naniwa only got 2nd place in MLG winning a spot just like DRG,MMA and MC did. Idra however went 3-3 vs no names in his wcg group. But he is very popular!

You are making so much sence

Idra and Sen to code S is a business decision that is not related to their skill and results. Of course they are two very good players but we have to question about the legitimacy of GSL if they chose that kind of arbitrary financial decisions over skill based ones.

Naniwa's code S spot was a priviledge by GOM, and now that priviledge is given to Sen, i think it's fair since Naniwa showed himself unworthy of priviledges. If he EARNED the spot, then it would be a different story.

EDIT: It looks like I was wrong... Idra and Sen were just given the foreigner spots, as Naniwa's was taken away. Idra or Sen probably would've been given the Code S spot either way. Check out this thread: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=294893

As much as I like Sen, and kind of like Idra, I really don't feel like this is fair to the other players in the GSL. GOM can come up with whatever reasons they want for why they gave them Code S seeds over someone else, but I'm sure a lot of people feel like they're more deserving of the Code S spot. It just doesn't feel right to me...

And in the case of Naniwa, really? He lost his Code S spot for this?
First Coca and now Naniwa.. and the reasoning for losing their seed is becoming weaker each time. I wonder who will be next and for what ridiculous reason..

So they remove Nani because he did a silly thing, a thing that Idra commented on and agreed with nani's decision.. Idra wrote : "dont have meaningless matches if you want players to take them seriously.", so i really don't understand why gom would be giving him a code S spot for so many obvious reasons?

When he left korea he did it after choosing his own group, made it turn into a 3-man group showing exactly what gomtv dont want, unproffesionalism. Idra is not even good enough to compete in code S imo, so don't see how this is justifiable... What a shitty day for sc2..

IdrA informed GOMtv that he was leaving before the group picking took place. GOM asked him to still go through the process and then he was allowed to leave. That was anything but "unproffesionalism".

Erm...? So I was sort of with GOM until they randomly started handing out spots to the most prestigious tournament in the world.

So what is the basis of adding IdrA and Sen to Code S? Placement into Code A is one thing, placement into the Up/Downs even if you want, but putting them directly into Code S? That's an absolute joke.

You could make arguments for dozens of other players to get instant Code S instead? Giving out arbitrary Code S spots absolutely slaughters the worth of being called a Code S player.

I believe that was Code A that Sen was qualified for, not Code S.
