The big difference is that appearance is more of a factor in your likeability as a man in Korea than in Canada. Being an overweight foreigner in Korea can make it difficult to make friends, but it's not impossible to overcome it with charisma. At least, this is what I found when I was there.

Thats pretty dead on. Koreans in general tie health together with the type of person they are in a way. Its more of a cultural thing rather than being superficial. When someone is fat, they think they don't take care of themselves (also not a desirable trait in korea) and the opposite for being skinny. Lets be honest, some laugh at fat ppl lol
