Look at the announcers for other sports. They give concise descriptions of the action plus some good feedback and make good note of particular parts of the action. Only in Esports is there such a plague as machine-gun-casting. It sounds like matches are being announced by the cast of "The View". The difference between SC2 and other sports is the amount of things going on at any given second. Consider that an SC2 pro has an APM (probably) over 200 (no I don't keep up with average APM of pro players); that's 3 actions per second by both players. In baseball, there's a pitch thrown every 20 seconds or so; in football, there's 20-30 seconds in between each play. The amount of action in SC2 vs. any other sport is staggering when you think about it. I'm just saying if we want the general public to find our sport entertaining to watch, it would probably be better if it didn't appear were all doing massive amounts of awesome cocaine.

I've always thought that when i get a solid 200 words per minute, i would like to start offering Computer Assisted Real-Time Translation to add captions(subtitles) to tournaments. I'm not sure what the demand for this would be. If anyone thinks it would be nice to have subtitles on tournaments, message me. I'll start working on a dictionary to take real time dictation from pro casters for tournaments immediately if any tournament hosts could offer me a job. Would be fun as hell. On a plus note, if i do captioning for a tournament, i could turn everything i write into a typed-out transcript that people could read later. Maybe post the transcript of a tournament on TL for people to read if they don't have access to a VOD or are in a place where watching a video isn't convenient. 200 words per minute? Is that even possible, lol? I type near 100 wpm and have seldom met people that were even as fast as i am..

It's not SC2's job or the casters job to cater to the general public. I don't want people to slow down or dumb it down to appeal to the general public. I really don't give a damn if that costs viewers. I think a lot of people agree with me but I could be wrong.

@Nagisama - Even though my younger brother isn't hard of hearing, he tends to turn on captions on the TV when he does his homework in front of it. It's not so much purely a benefit for the hard of hearing; it can add a lot of convenience for normal people since they only need to rely on one sense (sight, as opposed to sight + hearing) for all their information. Live captioning would be greatly welcomed, but given that SC2 moves rather fast I'm not sure if they can set up the system such that the captions appear fast enough so that the action on the screen doesn't fall behind. I suppose they can set up a small delay to align with the captions and such. If I knew how to do the editing work (re: Torte de Lini's suggestion), I'd love to add to this initiative :D On November 10 2011 06:20 Noktix wrote: 200 words per minute? Is that even possible, lol? They type out the words phonetically and the system they have set in place translates it into actual words.

Its one strange looking device, but it does the job. Basically i push several keys at once to write words or even whole phrases.

I can appreciate the "i am number 1" attitude, and in general its a good sentiment to live life by, but we're going for grand scale here. If we want professional attention we have to climb out of our parents basements and start acting like professionals.

Right now we are headed in the right direction. YouTubes transcribe audio is pretty good but sometimes it fills me with lulz. :D

Organizer: Ladies and gentleman, we have two great announcements to make before we start up this awesome tournament! First of, we are very happy to announce that this is the very first tournament, whose commentary will be live subtitled by professional court reporter! Court Reporter (thinking): Let's do it! Got plenty of practise in courts, now I have to show what I am made of! Second, we announce the comeback of one of the greatest and most influencial foreign commentators of all time! Klazart! Court Reporter: fuuu.....

edit: Of course, this would be very do-able for VoD's. But not as much for live matches, of course.
