Saying goodbye to my brother hurts, but I'm sure we'll find a way to be around each other a lot in the future...
Here's TT1's statement:
i want to thank the management for giving me the opportunity to represent one of the most famed and legendary esports team, having the chance to play under the fnatic tag is a huge accomplishment in itself. they shaped me to become the player that i am today by showing me how the industry worked and for that i am eternally grateful.
i joined fnatic 2 years ago with little to no expectations about what my future had in store for me.. and well, its been a fun trip to say the least, throughout my journey with fnatic ive made countless friends, i want to thank all of you for the great memorys that youve given me. the thing that tears me up the most about my departure is that i wont be able to share those team bonding moments with you guys anymore, not being able to spend as much time with duran and adrian saddens the most because youve become brothers to me
silviu, we had such a great time at dreamhack and i can truly say that you are one of the most underrated players out there, your such an honest and genuine person and for that i love you to death, thank you for being real
duran, your THE hardest working manager, i would NEVER be able to do the stuff that you do.. not in a millionaire years, but at the same time i worry myself about you because you try to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders, please dont put so much pressure on yourself. and dont forget about me =0) jf, wtf son you no gaming?? i know youll have sucess with whatever you decide to do with your life, your just that type of person. ive known you the longest out of everyone in fnatic(dating back to our mgz days), everything feels so casual and natural between us because weve known each other for so long.. this actually doesnt feel like a farewell between us because i know were always gonna stay in touch
adrian, oh man adrian.. im gonna miss you so much, your like a little brother to me but that being said i dont want overdramatize everything cus nothing is gonna change between us, were still gonna stay in touch and ill still order you your food whenever were at a restaurant, luv you
lol seo yong ur so cute, your an amazing player and an amazing person, i still remember the time where you wanted to sleep on the floor of our hotel room the night before your mlg semifinal match vs boxer.. i literally had to wrestle you down on the bed after i gave my spot because you felt so bad LOL.. after 30 minutes you finally gave in because afterall i am your hyung :D yoan, even tho you recently joined the team ive known you for a while now, your the type of person that everyone wants to be friends with because your so kind and trustworthy, im sorry that i had to leave the team so early after your arrival but i know that i leave the team in good hands, i know well still have a good time together at future events and that were always gonna stay in touch regardless if were on the same team or not. you have an incredible drive and passion to become the best and i wish you the best of luck in korea, i know youll do great
last but not least i want to thank all the fnatic supporters and all the fans that ive gained due to my assosiation with the team, i have reached a point in my career where i need a new challenge in order to motivate myself, a change of air is currently in the best interest for both me and fnatic but who knows what the future holds in store for us.. i want to have people remember my name for the right reasons and i promise that i will strive hard in order to accomplish that goal
This is very sad, I've always liked TT1. I hope he's not without a team for too long. What is Fnatic looking at doing to replace him/bolster their roster?
When I looked at the thread title, I thought TT1 was just going to stop playing SC2 and do something else. Given his post history apparently shows how little he likes the game, I thought that would be the most sensible thing for him, so I'm surprised it's just a change of teams.
Actually, if you read this TT1, why do you play SC2? It's never seemed to me like it was what you wanted to be doing. Good luck finding a new team!
Surprising. I wonder what new challenges lie out there for TT1? He used to be and I still think he can be one of the better foreign Protoss' in the world. Hopefully he is seeking a new challenge in terms of bettering his skill rather than maybe just a fatter contract? Either way, best wishes to TT1 and fnatic. Guess ToD takes over the Protoss throne in the fnatic clan?
Intro to the article on Fnatic's site gives the background:
Payam 'TT1' Toghyan starts his free agency today as we decide to part ways on amicable terms today. With the current direction our Starcraft II division is heading in, and what TT1's goals were as a professional player not matching up like they once did, it was in both parties best interests to say goodbye.

That his contract is over most likely or ended.
I'm going to speculate that TT1 wants more compensation than Fnatic is willing to offer and they were unable to come to an agreement.

It's also possible that Fnatic didn't want him on their team anymore. "Goals not matching" is often code for "fired."

No offense, but isn't TT1 one of the most mediocre players out there? He has never won any event and his playstyle isn't nothing special...
Let's hope he'll start to work harder with that "challenge" of his, because he'll need to get a lot better if he wants another organization to pick him up.
I don't know how many teams (at least the larger ones) would be interested in him. As far as results and skill level are concerned, I don't really know that TT1 has improved over the past 6. If anything I think he's fallen behind the current standard for play at the highest level. I could see some teams taking him if he isn't too demanding with regards to salary.

Uhm no. He may not be the most notable player but he's certainly not mediocre.

He was very good a while back. His best was beating MC. Other than that he hasn't done much unless you count any MLG pre-Koreans.
I have been a TT1 fan since release (he won me over early with his gateway heavy, high mobility style). However, he hasn't exactly kept up as the game has developed. I hope that with a new team he can gain new inspiration and motivation to work even harder and get himself back to the top where his potential truly is.

More inconsistent then mediocre. I see him beating Koreans and top foreigners but more so losing too much to less skilled players that force him out of tournaments early.

I honestly doubt they'd get TT1 after they "just" got Naniwa. Personally I think there are quite a few better protoss players out there too, incase they wanted another.
Anyway,
I never really thought your play was amazing, and I have seen a few rage posts here on TL (which always saddens me), but nonetheless I wish you the best of luck in the future. With SC2 or with whatever you chose to pursue.

I suppose it's possible but I don't know about this. Granted the last big tournament win TT1 had was second place at MLG Dallas 2010, and he has had mixed success in the NASL. But that's certainly more success than some of the other players on Fnatic's roster. Not to mention TT1 has quite a bit of name recognition and has a pretty decent fan following; which directly translates to sponsorship revenue for a team. It just doesn't make any sense to me that Fnatic would "fire" him. (Idra could play horribly and EG would certainly still keep him around for his fan base)
I think it's possible that Fnatic had reduced their offer based on TT1's lack of current success and TT1 wasn't happy with that. Or he wanted more and Fnatic, again based on his recent lack of success, was unwilling to pay what he wanted. Either way it I think it comes down to a money issue.

Your last paragraph sounds pretty much spot on the money. The same thing happened with Fenix when his contract came up for renewal, so I could certainly imagine it happening again.

Haha why is he talking about how he will miss players from Fnatic like if he never will have the chance to have contact with them again when he is just looking for a new team and not disappearing from the scene?
Anyway, I guess he wants to Korea because to be honest, thats he only way he is gonna be able to achieve something in the long run.

I agree. While I don´t see TT1 as a top foreigner, he is still good enough to make an significant impact on the roster of any team outside the big 3 (liquid, EG and mouz).

Lot of hate in here. TT1 was never quite an S class progamer, but always has been and still is towards the top of the pack. I feel like he struggles with a similar negative mentality to IdrA's. Either way, keep on fighting sir, you have the talent to be the best!

Well maybe not. But if tgun doesn't want to live in Korea then fnatic could be a good team for him. As for TT1, i tought his departure from Fnatic was due to the fact he wants to go to Korea so FXO could have been a great fit for both parties but with TT1's last post i guess he might stay teamless for some time.

So why not just tell Fnatic you don't want salary? Like what in a team makes you lose motivation if you're not getting paid from them?
Team help in so many ways most importantly giving you recognition to event organizers to attend certain events. You also have a chance to prove yourself in clanwars. Did Fnatic take cuts of your winnings or something that you couldn't just tell them, "Hey, I don't want a salary anymore because I want to motivate myself".

I have to agree with you there. I kind of have to question whether being a pro is right for someone if being paid to do something doesn't motivate them sufficiently to at least keep up with the current trends and skills. Maybe not having the money will make him hungrier, but what happens once you need the money again and join a team? Will he just fall back into the same old bad habits and become lazy again? If I was involved with a team then that previous post from TT1 would make me question whether it'd be worth talking to him about joining the team.
fnatic really needs to retain these types of players, as they are their identity. No one cares about NightEnD, or other European mercs, go get your TEAM back, because a roster full of solo players seems so unappealing from a fan perspective.
I think it's the right move if he really wants to improve his play (or try something else). Not really having any results since March kind of hurts the ego I'd think, I'd assume its the same kind of feeling Incontrol and Tyler are going through.

He was one administrative decision from Top 4 at IEM NY, and he played a good series against DRG... and was responsible for knocking MaNa out of IEM. That's a pretty solid result. Plus he was 1 game away from Top 32 at IPL 3 (losing to KiWiKaKi 1-2 in the final round before championship bracket).
Plus he was like 6-1 in 2v2's in EGMC and played pretty well throughout the season, taking down some good players like Kas. Pretty good results overall !_!
TT1 writes like a 13 year old girl. Even though I read the whole thing I still don't know why he left his team, so I don't know what else to say other than that hurt my eyes.
Saw this coming after it was revealed, I forgot what tournament it was but people dropped out and TT1 was next in line as a replacement. TT1 complained about not getting the replacement spot on here and then a tourney rep posted that fnatic was contacted about the replacement spot and they chose not to send TT1, without telling him first. He had to find out about that decision on TL, so I can see bad blood and trust issues stemming from that.

Good luck TT1. TT1 was a crazy player during the early days of SC2's release. He had some nice matches where he took or won a set over great players. One of the memories I remember was during the Korea vs West matches. I forgot who the player was, but I remember a lot of people on TL going crazy over that and how the West won on day 1 because of him and other non-Koreans.
Honestly, a lot of former BW players seem rather negative on SC2 at times such as IdrA (not hating on him since I'm a fan). I understand that the game is easier than BW and how "bs" it can be at times, but thinking that way is not a good idea when playing in an important match. We all know about IdrA's famous rage quits, but his mentality lately has been a big improvement. The old IdrA would have given up, but the last MLG and tournaments, he stuck through until the end and actually won some of them. An awesome moment was him doing the fist pump after winning because he didn't quit so easily.
I always remember how TT1 got to the finals against Jinro at MLG Dallas 2010. I think he beat Painuser and a few other names to get there, so I was fairly impressed.
Since then, I always thought he fell off the radar a bit. No offense to Fnatic, but I feel he needs a better team overall to take his game further.
More importantly I hope he doesn't quit. I see some potential in him.

You can have somebody proofread your statement? Not that hard.
This is a good move on FNATIC's part. Sad to say, but TT1 was just a lower ranked pro player who never really accomplished much. He wasn't really necessary.

It's that exact champion attitude that will bring you back to top form, just as you were roughly 8 months ago when I definitely considered you one of the best protoss around.
GL TT1, hope to see some great success out of you in the future. And also to fnatic, there has been a large roster change in the past months and I hope that the e-sports giant can find success in the form of a new roster, lead by Rain.
thats sad wonder what team is going to pick him up maybe fxo? as a replacement for t-gun (that would be a very good replacement though lol) fnatic falling apart a little but they still have a lot of their best players( nightend rain tod ...)left
fnatic has made quite the radical changes to their roster. i hope they pick up a few more good players that are marketable as well. team fnatic lacks the market pull it needs.

Yeah people don't follow the scene and still think they're aware of what player's having are having a hard time. TT1 has had some good results recently so he's in no slump.
Honestly I don't find this all that surprising. TT1 hasn't been doing anything amazing lately. Last time I heard about him, he lost to Destiny at MLG Orlando (maybe another MLG event). That being said, best of luck to him. I hope he finds his place in the SC2 world.

Yeah its not that surprising that he might be moving on from sc2. Its not possible for soo many "pro" players to continue playing when they know they can start another promising career instead of being in the mid pack for high level players.

Because both threads came out around the same time. TT1 is leaving, and so is tgun Therefore, the guy was making a joke saying the two are going to switch teams
How is having no team better for game improvement? He has to worry about money for daily life, travel expenses, generally the lack of team support and also his future in the professional gaming scene as a whole when he stays too long without a good team. Also his comments of him getting lazy when being in a Team with monthly income doesn't sound like a good attitude at all. This guy better rethinks what he is writing here, no good team wants that kind of player in its roster.

Really? I thought Fnatic was one of the upper tier teams already. I can't see Liquid/EG picking him up, and I have no idea who else would other than maybe complexity.
I personally can't see him progressing any further in the SC2 scene now. Guess he's going back to school or something. Interesting.
Edit: For some reason fnatic and dignitas were mixed up in my mind. ah well.
While TT1 is hot in the news, I figured it would be a good time to ask what "TT1" means. What does "TT1" stand for? I've always been curious. Was he just "number 1", and "TT" was an old clan/team that he kept? If that is the case, maybe he could just be called "1", along with the tag of whatever team takes him.
"EG1" or "oGs1" as random examples make a one-character name seem very hipster and cool, and I think "1" should consider this as he changes teams
Too bad for both sides, Fnatic loses an amazing Protoss player and TT1 leaves one of the most well known teams out there, I hope TT1 finds a team soon.
It seems like with so many teams out who are losing out on some of the players they have brought up. Hopeful there should be some transfer system soon like in soccer.

Fail defend. I like that you want to protect TT1, but nothing darkest44 said was a lie. It might be nice to read up on sources next time you accuse someone.

This was indeed real, as silly as it sounds. I even read that thread and the posts in question.
After losing both SEn and Fenix, this should not strike very hard tbh. Well maybe now, with some practice, he can become more than known for his appearence in the "world"-team...

How about some fact checking buddy? You don't have to look very far.

my defenders dont need to suck my dick, i worship my followers
I'm confused, didn't TT1 said in the Fenix to IM post "in any case i want to make everyone happy so i wont be posting on tl anymore, dont wanna be considered part of this community anymore"
I suspect this to do with being able to live and practice in korea under best possible circumstances (I'm guessing obviously) and I would not be surprised to see him join a team with a bigger korea presence.
maybe now msi can get some actual good players if they want to spend the cash. the only person who actually accomplished anything while in fnatic was sen and those werent even huge accomplishments
On November 02 2011 07:59 Tektos wrote: What names are still left in the Fnatic team now that Fenix and TT1 are gone?
Random, a former WC3 pro, someone who was in code S once, some more randoms and some code B players from Korea. Kind of looking grim for them to say the least... EDIT: also a 2v2 team...

I don't know what established top team that would want TT1, he's an ok player but terrible for business. Possibly QxG since they're an upcoming team but I wouldn't count on it. Time will tell.

GL TT1. I love you so much and when I make a team, you can be Gretorp.TTOne I will make you an honorary member and have as general captain of the 4th squadron. [U.S. east reference from sc bw days]

Complexity, which is probably the best team headquarted in the US after EG, has people like Minigun (who ROOT picked up when he was a lot worse than he is now) and has had Destiny. I'd say TT1 is a better player and more professional and experienced than they are :S. I could name a ton of other people on other teams as well. In fact I'm not even a fan of TT1 (while I've been a fan of Minigun since before he was even with Inflow), but hey, let's be objective here :S.

+1 for the attitude. Good luck man wherever you land.
Interesting. Fnatic has lost a lot of what I would have considered their "core" players in the last couple of months for SC2. I wonder if their management has something to do with it.. Who knows. Either way, GL in whatever team you end up on TT1!!!
Quite a loss for Fnatic. Even though TT1 isn't the elite player he used to be he was still one of Fnatic's best players. To think that only a few months ago Fnatic was one of the strongest foreign teams around.

btw.. he needs to take some english lessons o.O
Considering he's from Quebec, I think he speaks English at a very acceptable level.
In any event, I hope whatever comes next makes him more awesome. Count me amongst his many fans.
I had the impression Fanatic would suffer a big loss after Sen's departure. I hate to see teams break apart like this.
Sen Fenix TT1
Who's next? Personally, just as with Huk and Liquid, I kind of get this odd feeling whenever people join a team as unproven and leave once they've achieved something. I know I don't have all the facts, but I'll say it anyway - I feel like they've used the team to fulfill their personal goals and once that's done, they rapidly move on and never look back on the team that gave them a lot when they most needed it.
This is VERY similar to football (soccer for americans) star players. I've always highly respected people who pick a team and stick to it and better yet - kick ass - regardless of whether their team sucks or rules or is having a bad time or not.
i remember TT1 vs NaDa in GSL allstars earlier this year.... awesome cannon placements and crushed nada's banshees. Good luck man. Your apm and sense of the game is very high and hope you find a stronger team

ya tt1 is known for his cannon placement. one of the best cannon placers in montreal imo...
Fnatic has quite a history of dropping players rather fast or cutting their salary as soon as they do not perform that awesome anymore. Maybe they just werent happy with his results and he didnt like the "cut".

i know that every time a player leaves someone says "LIQUID <PLAYER HERE>!!!!" but LiquidTT1 would be such a strange and awesome comeback to legitimacy
either way -- best of luck TT1! loved the 2v2 games in the eg masters' cup
Pretty sad, I've always thought of TT1 as Fnatic's core player, someone that's been with them through the thick and thin. Hope he does well on whatever team he ends up on.

2 former war3 pros, an ex code S, kawaii and jf - winner of the tsl1 and semifinalist of tsl2
I am not the biggest fan of TT1 in the world, nor did i see him at major tournaments as having good results on the main stage and so on, but i can honestly say that the games i'v seen him play were some of the most entertaining ones. Sad that it had to come to this, but the future is always bright for the ppl who want it.
Good luck TT1, and hope to see u play again, u are awesome.

August, Skit, Porigo in their South Korean academy team, ToD, IefNaij, Rain, KawaiiRice and NightEnD in their international team, and IeZaeL and executor in their 2v2 team (they also have a website for this kind of info btw).

Payam 'TT1' Toghyan starts his free agency today as we decide to part ways on amicable terms today. With the current direction our Starcraft II division is heading in, and what TT1's goals were as a professional player not matching up like they once did, it was in both parties best interests to say goodbye.
I missed that... but what does starting a free agency mean?
That his contract is over most likely or ended.
I'm going to speculate that TT1 wants more compensation than Fnatic is willing to offer and they were unable to come to an agreement.
It's also possible that Fnatic didn't want him on their team anymore. "Goals not matching" is often code for "fired."
disclaimer: I don't have any inside information at all, that's just how it reads to me.
That sounds about right, considering his results havent been anywhere near impressive recently , i dont think he has placed well or won any tournaments recently.
Im not flaming him , i think hes a good guy, its just as far as i know his results havent been up to snuff recently.
I also think that xeris would have fought pretty hard for him to stay. Looking at everyone on the teams results though its like KR always places higher at MLG's , Tod is a new member no expectations yet, JF probably doesnt expect any money hes focusing on school and straight up doesnt play at all, Rain is their highest placing player (although a bit lackluster at the last MLG his time out of korea and a team house is starting to catch up with him) , Nightend is still a fairly new player as well as european representation i havent been following any team leagues but im sure he does decent in them. I dunno that combined with TT1's extremely outspoken and sometimes rude behaviour in the community could have probably factored in with it along with him wanting more money out of a contract.
who is this new player on the fnatic roster, anyone ever heard of him? Fnatic.IeZaeL Javier Parra

It seems that a lot of teams go through cycles of cutting and acquiring new players for their teams. Now is kind of the last chance to make roster changes before the next cycle of big tournaments comes up and after that it's the holidays. I think a lot of teams are looking for value for money in their players (Fnatic have shown this on many occasions) and have to make some big decisions about their rosters. In the end it's all about being a sustainable entity in esports. If the player isn't being as active or achieving the results required of them, then I think the team is well within their rights to make roster changes.

Yes but in this case it looked more like it was TT1 leaving Fnatic for his sake rather than the other way around. As said before, we'll never know for sure.
kk i love u guys but plz stop talking about the past, i appreciate all the compliments but i hate living in the past.. whenever some1 brings up the gsl world championships it just makes me nostalgic and reminds me of how bad im sucking right now : D
that being said fusihunter <3, ty for ur kind words
Fnatic really needs to sort out their roster, its really small and most of the players have incredibly weak showing at events, eswc for example was the first event in a long time that nightend attended. Iefnaij, seems this guy isn't even playing the game? I like kawaiirice, but he needs to step his game up. I don't really see why fnatic isn't picking anyone up either? They've been needing a zerg player for such a long time now, and there so many impressive zerg players on the "market", moonglade, moon, check, sleep etc.
I'm confused by the economics of pro-gaming teams.
I can see the purpose in sponsoring guys like MVP, Nestea, Huk, OGSMC, Thorzain, Naniwa because they are guys that can, conceivably, win tournaments and get press/buzz.
TT1, while a solid player in the elite bracket, isn't likely to win (or place highly) in a major tournament.... so what do they get out of sponsoring him?
If there was a teamleague where you need solid players, I can understand but, otherwise, it seems only worthwhile to sponsor the players with highest ceilings/most results.

Check the thread about why you picked the name you picked. I think that's where I read TT1 explain his choice. Unless it was an interview or something. Sorry no link, small search will find it though
Well, obviously. When you sign a player you do so with the expectation of certain results. Nobody signs some newb to their roster without thinking that they can become a top level player...
I wouldn't give $1,000 salary to Joe Bob SC2 player.
