You do realize on average "Europeans" are 'fatter' than the Japanese, so not only what he said is correct, but you've totally taken it in a weird way. It wasn't meant as a mean spirited thing.

Japan is 3.2% obese, Sweden is 9.7%, Netherlands 10%, France 9.4%, UK23% etc

source is easily google-able

Nice try but no.
You are going a specific spot to valid your argument which is simply cheating + your argument is still false.
Your own link is killing your argument here since it simply disagrees if you do stuff like that.
Japanese people are simply less fat by average then Europeans, its just a fact...

people of collective cultures are not hesitant to assign labels like fat, or stupid. they would describe themselves as such if it were true as well, it is just a cultural thing--they don't take as many steps as people of individualistic cultures to constantly maintain extremely high self esteem via creating grandiose self-images.

also people in japan are extremely fit compared to the rest of the world, as their diet contains much more fish as opposed to red meat compared to just about every other industrialized nation

There's also a fat tax in Japan

New York Times Article

Excerpt:

"...To reach its goals of shrinking the overweight population by 10 percent over the next four years and 25 percent over the next seven years, the government will impose financial penalties on companies and local governments that fail to meet specific targets. The country’s Ministry of Health argues that the campaign will keep the spread of diseases like diabetes and strokes in check..."

This isn't really a thread about whether Europeans are fat or not but I figured I'd throw this in here just in case.

Having lived in Japan for 2 years, and with a Japanese wife, the Japanese tend to* use the word overweight / fat a lot more and with a lot less discretion than we do. Here it's basically a death sin to call someone overweight, whereas in Japan I frequently (...) saw conversations like "Hey you've gotten a little fat, eh?" - "Yeah, I gotta do something about that". My wife's mother kept talking about me being fat (I definitely am not - 65 kgs, 184 cms), and only later did I find out that she said it in a "it's good that you've put on some weight" manner, rather than "you should lose weight bubba!". Somewhat outside the point but still, how many westerners would say "your belly's sticking out" to someone, and not even being negative about it.

My wife constantly bugs my friend who's a bit on the "fluffy" side, and HIS girlfriend (we became friends in Japan) bugged him about it as well, constantly. I could give many more examples but I'll just stop there.

On topic: awesome! I've been looking so hard for Japanese SC2 players but it's been a desert. Maybe it's grown a bit since I was looking the last time. We're planning on moving back at some point and I'd hate to be the only person in the country who plays the damn game.

(* disclaimer: generalizing, based on experience I've had with the Japanese I've seen or met or heard of)

It's true - in Japanese, calling someone fat/overweight isn't really a big deal.

Nemuke says he would love to go to MLG.

There are a surprising number of Japanese Starcraft 2 fans. Like most of the foreign scene, they are largely ex-Brood War players that have picked up Starcraft 2. It's slowly gaining popularity there, although not to a huge degree.

It's like the nerdier version of the Hallyu Wave, which is the term used for Korean Pop/Drama/Movies taking over a lot of the Eastern Asian entertainment scene.
