I'm a bit sceptical of the cloning and especially the pulling. The pulling especially seems like Blizzard doing their biggest mistake all over again, limiting micro, rather than promoting it.

This is what strikes me odd.
Instead of doing this, why not just add Goliaths, Firebats and Defilers (and Lurkers <3)? The community wants 'em, and obviously Blizzard sees the potential of such unit within the SC2 unit arsenal (given that those new units basically behaves just as their BW counterparts), so why dance around the matter like this?


I think the issue is that the SC2 team is not the same as the BW one, and they don't wanna just copy BW because it was good, they wanna try and create their own thing so they can be like "look we made this!"

The issue, is I don't think they will ever make anything as balanced as BW was and will keep refusing to take things from it and will try and make SC2 "their own"

Now we can speculate as to which units/abilities will be removed/tweaked.

Zerg: Not sure yet. Both new units have their own niche and don't really overlap that much with existing ones. I guess the detection property in the Viper might overlap with Overseers, but since the former is likely going to be a hive/late lair unit, and the latter is important for early/mid game scouting, I doubt they'll replace one for the other. As for the Swarm Host, it's a siege unit that probably morphs from the hydralisk. Zerg already has Broodlords for siege, but I don't really see the need for one to go for the other to exist. They might remove the latter just because Blizzard themselves have expressed that Broodlord/Infestor was a little too powerful. We'll see.

Protoss: Carriers will most likely be replaced with the Tempest. Don't really see the point of having both in the game. The Replicant sounds like it'll replace Hallucination so that'll probably go. The Oracle is an interesting one. Not sure if it will be a stargate unit or a robo unit to be honest. I have a sneaking suspicion that it might be an ungraded form of the observer, but that's just my thought.

Terran: The Warhound most likely will replace the Thor. I don't really see a place for the latter with this new unit being introduced. Battle Hellion will obviously act as Firebats, but will its introduction change anything else? Not entirely sure tbh. The Shredder is a strange one. By its description it sounds like a mobile mini-Planetary Fortress that doesn't work with nearby friendly units. I guess it'll be mainly used to fortify your expansions and other locations together with turrets and sensor towers. It might also be useful to take when attacking, but will be harder to deploy effectively. I don't really see a unit being removed for this to come in.

Hellion transformation I can survive. But seriously, look at warhound - wth is that thing...

I don't know how swarm host is going to function but for now I don't rly like it.

Oracle and replicant seem little weird but we will see.

Gonna be exciting to hear some more detail about these new units. As a toss player I'm feeling somewhat ambivalent about the new units.
The Tempest seems cool, because mutas are frikin' hard to deal with, if you haven't scouted them early enough, however i would like for it to be a replacement for the colossus - hopefully it's not another hero unit like the mothership (which I wouldn't be sad to see dissapear. But with the description it seems to replace the carrier, and might be somewhat of a niche unit.
The Oracle is certainly interesting if its harassing capabilities are powerful enough. I don't think it being able to reveal what a structure is making is a big deal, because you should be able to have a good idea about this from scouting the build - maybe in pvz you can see if the zerg player is about to do some insane tech switch all of a sudden.
The replicator I have no idea about whether it's going to be awesome, it seems to depend alot on its cost and range. I'm guessing it won't be worth it to replicate most units, but it might be worth to replicate some tier 2 & 3 units.

Terran units seem a bit unimaginative, while Zerg units look powerful as hell, as if lings weren't nasty already, now they get dark swarm as well XD

Zerg gets new versions of old BW units (let's be honest) and gets the highest approval %, this isn't a coincidence. The "new" Terran units are terrible until the diffrence between a thor and a hellhound is clarified, even if the thor is being replaced, is this a cosmetic change? hellion transform is probly useful but if they just removed hellions from the game and replaced them with vultures I think you'd see happiness closer to what you see from the Zergs in this thread.

Zerg got essentially BW units, I am filled with envy

So if the warhound replaces the thor, what happens to people who have the collectors edition of the thor with their wings of liberty copy?
There is a theory which states, that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly dissapear and be replaced by something even more inexplicable. There is another theory that this has already happened.

Why would Carriers get removed? they were like an iconic unit in SC:BW... Im Zerg, but id be pretty pissed if carriers got scrapped

Marauder won't be removed unless they add a new rax unit I'd imagien.. We'll see Zerg unit seems amazing compared to the rest tho

Agreed. Loving the Tempest in looks and function, I think the Oracle replaces the Observer and is built from the Robo, can fly and is meant to fulfill the Protoss lack of early-midgame harassment. I'm loving that! The Replicant seems REALLY gimmicky to me - it's just like "hey, we nerfed Neural Parasite to the ground - let's give it to Protoss but make it the primary ability and have the caster fly!" Sure, it might have some EPIC micro moments (a gaggle of Ghosts, clone one and EMP them all - WIN!), but I don't see it as a core unit but more of a fringe one like the Dark Archon.

I reckon the Replicant will be replaced before HotS launches, or else it will just be unused in most games, or maybe used vs specific strategies (mech -> clone seige tanks, depending whether the new Zerg units are massive, maybe the Shredder? Turning Terran's AoE against them - nice!). I guess we'll find out

Overall, very please. I especially like the Viper (re-cast Defiler FTW!) and the Swarm Host design, but it's the execution that matters.

And I want that Tempest in a wall-paper for my desktop
