We are currently talking about this issue in the mod forum. We take this issue very seriously, and want to find the best way to serve those who want faster results, and those that don't wish to be spoiled.

Put an option on our control panel 'Spoiler-free Front Page' which hides all the news.
I don't really care about spoilers, but a lot of people do and a lot of them have teamliquid as their home page.
They should be able to at least go to the 'DotA' subforum without the risk of getting spoiled about a match they want to watch later that day.

Cardinals Bullpen shuts down Brewers. Win 4-3! Pujols with another multi-hit game! Details inside.

It's the same for Starcraft imo.

It's not, because no one outside of North America knows who the hell the Cardinals or the Brewers are.

This is not true. there are a LOT of baseball (MLB) fans worldwide. you just dont know it.

back to topic - maybe the main issue is to decide if TL is a News site or not. if it is, spoilers=news. if they do not want to make TL a news site then its fine to use the spoilers tag.
let TL-management decide what approach they want to take. maybe some1 else takes the time to make an SC2 news portal/magazine where there are a lot of pics, interviews and analysis of the games.

You can achieve more hype without spoilers. Spoilers aren't the issue here. I think the OP is actually complaining about TL coverage. The difference between having a huge title "minutes after a final" with spoilers or without is MINIMAL in terms of hype and reaction. But the effect is huge for someone who has missed the event / newer people just finding out about it etc.

It's dumb to say that having who wins in a title has this big an affect, as it simply does not. I think OP would actually be happy with big flashy headers of "IPL FINALS OVER!" etc.

^What I've been saying this entire thread. Most complaints seem to be the slow news posts and people are using a spoiler policy to blame for that, which imho really isn't the case. I don't even think there's any basis to assume they're delaying their posts for spoiler reasons. TL staff know how to make engaging titles that don't spoil & even put nice spoiler warnings at the beginning of their OP's, so the spoiler policy has nothing to do with the amount of content and when it's released. You'll find the % of people who voted yes also don't bother to read anything beyond the OP though.

I have never in my life met one. At any rate, I was being hyperbolic. Sure, there's niche support for weird regional sports everywhere, but the vast majority of baseball fans are in the Americas and Japan. Much like Americans don't follow cricket or cross-country skiing.

The main point is that Starcraft is not a regional sport outside of Korea. Any foreign fan, regardless of their time zone, follows the same players. We all watch MVP and Idra and Stephano and Huk and Kiwikaki and TLO. The EU audience is just as big, if not bigger than the NA audience. Therefore efforts should be made to accommodate people watching from different timezones. EU tournaments should keep in mind that there are lots of NA viewers, and NA tournaments should keep in mind that there are lots of EU viewers.

I've been thinking this for a while, it's very odd that after the biggest events in the esport the biggest site in the esport pretends nothing happened until the event is old news... It seems like collective madness to me.

It has to hurt the events too, I'm sure they want a front page article up there publicising their efforts (except maybe code s finals ). If 'we' can't get excited about esports, how on earth is it reasonable to expect everyone else to...

"IPL3 Winner interview" or "IPL3 Stephano interview". If you know the results or dont care about the spoiler nothing will change for you. You just open the thread. But people who do care about them have the option to not open the thread.
But I have to agree with people saying the frontpage looks bleak during / after a tournament. So I wouldnt care for a spoiler newspage (with the option to opt-out in the profile), or news like "Amazing IPL3 finals! A battle between titans & amazing games... read more"

It's still anticlimactic but it works for me and the guys who won't put the effort into spoiler dodging regular sports fans have to. Also doesn't require TL's devs to get on some wacky spoiler system, no names in the article titles.

no, you dont, that would be insane.

all the sports listed in arguments in this thread have primarily a country of origin audience, outside of special events foreign fans either watch their own countries rebroadcast or a select few have some kind of satellite package and stay up to watch it

EVERYTHING in starcraft is a world wide audience, not just 2 time zones but 20, you cant expect people to watch things live, this is getting ridiculous ; /

I can only agree with the OP, there is just no "big news" feeling for the current events due to the whole "spoiler" situation in E-Sports, which is ridiculous at first.

I introduced a few of my friends to TL and SC2, and they were very puzzled by the fact that huge tournament wins aren't instantly on the frontpage, it REALLY adds to the "feel" of things, it's hard to put into words but I think everyone understands it.

The best solution was offered a couple of pages ago, but probably most people come in and just read the thread title .. You can put a huge banner on the first page without saying the winner. The people that are interested will click it, the others will not. Q.E.D.

Agree with OP. Spoilers are dumb, i always check results before watching the games anyways, they tell me if they are even worth watching. Too much content comes out have to cherry pick.

Is the winner really more important then how he did it ? no it's not, it's all about his play, honestly it doesn't "matter" who wins only how they did it.

It would be nice if results were made more easily accessible.

Almost every other eSport to date has spoiled the results of live events. Take the old cs days and gotfrag for example.

Hm maybe you are right. But it's also worth noting that under Liquid Team News, they posted the update everyday after every IPL. So TL writers do have the capability to put fast news ( and the quality of those reports are good). It's just that the titles are : Midway Report, One day More. Etc. These are spoiler-free headlines that most likely are deliberate. As I have said before, after Hero got eliminated due to the groupstage fiasco and then having to face Puma, they could have made good headlines with that story in mind. Or any other result. That might attract more attention. Having very general headlines like Midway report doesn't really entice visitors to read and click and does not celebrate the hype especially.

So yea, TL do put up fast news. It's just in some cases( not all) , the spoiler-free nature of these headlines makes a lot of people unable to celebrate/discuss the news immediately (ie it does not really attract attention instantly)

Frankly i've never been so "annoyed" by spoilers. I'm European so i am used to watching almost all tourneys on Vods (during Korean times i work, and i can't stay up all night for US events), but until i have watched my Vods i simply don't go to reddit or similar sites to discuss the event, unless i want to be spoiled ("did my favorite go through, or should i not even bother watching").

So if TL had a quality newspost within 24h of an event about the final, i honestly couldn't care less, either i have already seen it, or i wouldn't read it, as simple as that.

Regarding a complete change in layout of the site to become more of a "newssite" as the OP seems to want, thats a decision which the admins/management need to make. Even if they do make such a choice, most people should be able to adapt easily.

And yes, to some extent the endless "thanks for spoiling XY for me" is hurting esports, in the sense that people don't immediatly go to their favorite site and hype the match while they are still stoked and pumped up from it. On the other side of that coin, if the final is disgusting and boring as many GSL finals have been, that would be known quite fast as well so fewer people might watch the Vod.

Kind of end that discussion!

Other gamin news have their frontpage full of the latest about what is happening in esports. As a swede I can mostly talk about rakaka, that is screaming tabloid headlines at you about every event as they are happening.

I always go to them when i want a quick recap of what is happening, it is easy and they always link to more sources.

I think it's more a case of lacking "news" such as "Player X wins MLG against all odds! Taking out blah blah blah" than "Nestea through to round of 32".

Some results, especially some recently it would be great to see front page announcements celebrating their victories. I would love to see that and I imagine that lots of people would too. There will be people who don't even follow every single tournament or might just simply have missed one (especially with so many coming on recently) so if they see a post saying a player has won a major tournament they then might be more interested in that player/team/tournament.
