We are currently talking about this issue in the mod forum. We take this issue very seriously, and want to find the best way to serve those who want faster results, and those that don't wish to be spoiled.
Yes. If Starcraft 2 is a sport, we need to be rid of the spoilers. Wait to go to teamliquid until the next day if you don't want it spoiled. Look at any major sporting news venue, they spoil nothing.
How cool would it be if we could have it be more like march madness, with great short news blips about crazy upsets and great close games.
Moving away from spoilers would probably help the live scene as well, as you have a greater motiviation to watch the event live instead of whenever on your own time.
All i wish for is to have special threads in the community news section with the [results] tag in the title, and in it all the results of all the important matches and cups of that day. It would be really nice to have all the results in one thread instead of searching multiple threads and or searching on the liquipedia . Just like Playxp has daily results threads for all gsl matches , Tl.net could have all the daily results for all the westerner tournaments and cups. Would make life a lot more easier and i would for on once actually know the results of more than 10% of the matches that happened that day.

Does it matter? If 100 people cry about spoilers, and 99 of them weren't even going to watch the tournament anyway, there's still one whose viewing experience now is ruined or diminished.
I don't get why this isn't crystal clear to everybody. ^_^ You're not getting instant results on the front page = minor inconvenience. Someone else not getting their results spoiled since he/she wants to watch the event from start to finish = huge deal.
Why are you ignoring the suggestion I made in OP about an alternate TL spoilerfree page with all the VODs ? Or as some suggested, just an option to turn spoiler-news off when coming to the homepage.
I think you really don’t understand the point I was trying to make in the OP. It is not just about “minor inconvenience” for the current TL users, it is about making the site user-friendly and with a lot of hype and excitement for the casual viewers/newcomers.
I haven't read all the pages, and I didn't see any mention of an option to turn it off. That's something I would support. Alternate TL spoilerfree page though, what does that mean? I'd like to be able to browse the different forums, check the livestreams, check fanclubs while still not getting spoiled by pics or titles of threads about recent results.
But yeah, a toggle in your profile settings, which would show or hide certain news posts from showing up on the front page would be great.
First of all, I'm quite critical with the op. Calling people that don't like being spoilered "spoilers-freaks" is not exactly a good basis for discussion.
The big problem with spoilers on TL is: It's not only a news site, but a place where you can easily go and find vods (or look up which games were played, so you know what to watch etc.), which are sometimes hard to find on the tournament page itself. Also it's a community site where I want to be able to go and read stuff about other topics where I don't have to fear a spoiler on the front page.
Different timezones add to this, which is a difference to "normal" sport events. Those are either only popular in a restricted area (very few people from the usa would be interested in soccer games from say germany, while a lot of german starcraft fans are interested in starcraft tournaments that are held in the usa), or you don't have the possibility to rewatch the event at all (or people are simply not interested in it).
Having the choice between spoilers and no spoilers would be a possibility, but it still would be a problem if you make it opt-out instead of opt-in: being on a different pc and wanting to visit TL would give you immediate and inevitable spoilers. And not everybody can always log in from the same pc (aka stay logged in). The best solution would in my opinion would be to have a news article as soon as possible after the event, while keeping the title itself and possible pictures spoilerfree. In the thread itself, it's then possible to hype it up.
most people (52% ) think it takes ~1 or 2 days before you can assume someone getting spoiled is there own fault.
So, since most people probably recognize that nobody can watch all starcraft live (especially since there are major tournaments for sc2 in korea, us, and europe; bw is exclusively korea), it's just a matter of "not giving a fuck" about spoilers to people.
And frankly I find that attitude fairly disgusting. Tl.net is about multiple games, multiple communities, and people browse here all the time from work/after events finished/whatever with the full intention of watching vods soon after. TL.net is not just a news site for sc2 progaming.
I for one don't want a gigantic picture of jangbi on tl.net the moment after he wins an osl finals, nor do I want a gigantic picture of stephano or whoever after winning an sc2 tournament. At least not for 24 hours of the event.
Nor do I want people bitching about getting spoiled or about which results warrant front page media coverage (which will happen, I guarantee). And I don't want anyone's viewing experience ruined by spoilers.

The different media organizations have to compete with each other to bring the news the fastest and with the best quality possible. This isn't the case in ESports where there are a handful of sites with TL being the biggest by far. The audience is pretty fragmented with EU / NA / SEA timezones. While 'regular' sports are broadcasted by popularity, meaning that in Europe football is the biggest sport, so when there's a big match. It's being broadcasted at the most convenient moment, somewhere in the evening when the viewing potential is the biggest. In the case of ESports it's what the best for the organizers, keeping in mind that players can be fatigued or jet-lagged. Specially when it's a multiple day tournament. You can't and shouldn't compare ESports with regular sports, because they're way too different of each other.
There's a lot of wisdom in this. However, your analysis doesn't really address the underlying question: why shouldn't TL have AP-style instant results coverage?
Why do the media outlets have to compete? Well because they want the viewers to come to their site first. We already come to TL first. For TL to stay alive and survive any competitors that may spring up(which is entirely feasible if esports explodes) and for the esports industry to become as big as we want it, we need to think big. Bottom line is everyone wants results extremely fast, and who are we to expect any different when every other major sports industry gets it.
May also be a logistical thing with manpower inside TL... although i dont know
How can you not compare this to mainstream sports when they are billion dollar industry and are so popular? One of Korea's main pastimes is SC BW. Theres no reason to not make the comparison.
Yes but only at the end of said tournament, for the love of god do not spoil rounds before finals because people like me miss said games often and catch up on the season before finals. But yes, when someone wins GSL, MLG, IPL, NASL please put on the front page. It would be helping E-Sports.
Yes. People are way too sensitive to spoilers. I mean, if you dont want to know the result of a Starcraft tournament then maybe you shouldnt go on a Starcraft website, pretty simple right?
So yea i'd really like it if the result of a tournament was on the frontpage.

With a 24 hour delay or something, okay?
Give the people who were at work/sleep/school a chance to watch the VODs.

It's not up to you to decide how "sensitive" others are allowed to be for spoilers. Go to rakaka if you want results. As has been stated before, Teamliquid is the #1 site for everything Starcraft related, it's not just a news feed of recent tournament results. We come here to watch streams, discuss/predict games and more.
I really dont care. I always check the results first (then vods on another day or when i got time)
also, when do they ever post who wins on the homepage or anything? It takes a few days for a well done article to be written. Its up to you too not go to these threads; or just dont come on tl?
results are always in their LR thread. If people create threads then usually they are closed right away.

Yea, this starts to hurt me physically when i read it but I have to say this spoiler stuff really annoys me but as long as it's just a bit more effort for some people and more enjoyment for a minority it's ok I guess.
From reading the posts in this thread and looking at the poll results there seems to be a pretttty big silent majority. I agree when the IPL thing happened it should have been on teamliquid front page right away. The first thing I did after the initial cheering in my head was check TL but there really was nothing so.. I went to sleep (not very exciting).
All the people saying this shouldnt happen. If there was a TL portal where the "NEWS" part doesn't show, I think they can just use that to browse instead. All the hype over events can just happen in threads associated with news or something.
I watch lot's of hockey too and half the fun is the post-game hype after something amazing/unexpected happens.
I think it's important to distinguish types of tournaments too.
just a couple posts ago i talked about stephano winning ipl finals vs jangbi winning osl finals and how I want neither of those spoiled; that's actually a poor comparison.
One is a major finals hyped up for days/weeks ahead of time. One was a result of a single tournament on a single day (well, quarterfinals - finals or w/e). If anyone out there wanted to watch the whole quarterfinal through finals run in vod form (due to being busy irl or just inconvenience of time zone) then saying "OMG X WONNNN!!!!!!" can ruin it quite a bit.
"Large" tournaments with more pre-hype times make more sense to be able to spoil (nhl, superbowl, world cup finals, proleague semi/grand finals, osl ro8-grand finals, msl ro8-grand finals, gstl grandfinals) since it is fairer to say "well, it's your fault for not avoiding spoilers or not watching it live" since you knew well in advance when the event was happening and what it entailed. but at the same time it'll make you (likely) angrier if you get spoiled in advance, especially if you were hyped.
if a live tournament makes interesting results (stephano wins vs koreans let's say) then insta-spoiling that does more damage than spoiling something a person could have expected. You don't even give people a chance.

The big difference between these two posts is that the TSL post is asking how long should we wait, with no option saying "instant post." This post is saying, should we wait at all. Obviously more people think instaposts would help the e-sport scene grow rather than have it be delayed.
I think that if TL adopted the insta-news policy, the spoiler cryers would eventually go away. By leaving this a delicate balance then the ones who don't want spoilers are free to complain every single time someone mentions a tiny thing about a game that already happened. They just need to learn to avoid a STARCRAFT NEWS SITE if they don't actually want any starcraft NEWS. If you want to participate in general forums or whatever, bookmark straight to that. If its that important to you to avoid spoilers, take precautions yourself. Don't expect the largest english e-sports news site to coddle you.

This hype is still present, in the Live report threads. When something amazing goes on, the thread explodes and you get 2-10 pages of OOOOMMMMMGGG.
