This is really a question for people who have gotten a Korean/Taiwan account from NA. How bad was the latency online? If you have done this and it has worked out for you can you post a speedtest so I can compare our speeds. I want to get on the Korean server but I have no way to know how bad the latency will be and if it will be worth it. I go to Georgia Tech so I have pretty damn good internet but I am still not sure if it will be enough. Also, do any pros that live in NA play on the Korean server?
Thanks in advance.
Also if this should be in blogs or something just let me know and I will fix it or if a mod wants to please do.
Here is a link to an average speedtest for me.
![[image loading]](http://www.speedtest.net/result/1503487316.png) ^ This is to a server in Atlanta, I am running through a router which has been slowing it down, also upload is capped D:
![[image loading]](http://www.speedtest.net/result/1503490701.png) ^ This is to a server in Seoul. I am really worried about that ping...
![[image loading]](http://www.speedtest.net/result/1473406072.png) ^ Not going to lie, this one is just for nerd-cred. But with out the router I am able to get speeds like this (although not always the upload as this was a special circumstance).
So, TL, what do you think? Could I play on KR without too many problems? Post your stories about playing on KR.

I could be wrong but wasn't low latency on BW around 200ms ping? That was playable for a while until better options were introduced. Eventually it will become playable but switching back and forth might be troublesome to get used to O_o

Well, I play with this ping everyday, and it's quite bad, but you get used to.

I have just about the same ping ~242 ms to KR. The latency isn't too bad to where it is unplayable.. but it is noticeable for sure. You will not have 1 second of delay definitely. I'd say for marine splitting and that type of micro I can still do it to the best of my abilities like on the NA server but ofc it is hindered.
So yes.. you will be able to play on KR with not too bad latency.
Edit: Also, ^ you will get used to the ping very fast. When you go back to NA you will feel a huge difference. Play some custom xel's or something to get used to it in the beginning.

O_O'
I play on KR from NA, the ping is fine.
I'm not a pro by any means, but other than a couple spikes here and there (Like once a game for 10-15s) I'd say the ping is occassionaly noticable, but most definitely playable.

From Chicago I have about 0.7s delay

Your internet is extremely well... most people have somewhat higher ping and lower speeds... There's not much you can do to change it, and with your speeds, I think you are being too picky. I'm curious as to what OS you are running though since if you have XP, it can make things alot worse. But yeah, you are extremely lucky.

From what I understand most zerg players have told me the lag is deal-withable. I've also heard TvZ is undealwithable. I'm not sure if it's just the race MU's or the internet for each person or location - But in general I have more people tell me it's ok than bad.
On a side note, what the hell - I thought my internet at my university was amazing but this blows it out of the water O.O

I am not trying to change my speeds I am just wondering if they are fast enough to play on KR. Also, I run Windows 7.

*Flex* And why is TvZ undealwithable, and for which race? I play T and I have trouble with Z so you can see where my concern comes from.

![[image loading]](http://www.speedtest.net/result/1503502526.png) The latency IS noticeable, the only time ive found it hurts me is when im moving out of storms, but all in all i actually think the latency helps you improve faster, it forces your macro to be much better, you will learn more about unit posture and positioning, IE you will know from his templar positioning that he is about to storm and you can be ready, same with baneling wars, its harder only because you have to be faster.
I think the latency is better because of the increases in mechanics you will gain from being required to macro over micro. Untill you hit the highest level of play i dont think the latency will be a problem.
EDIT: BEWARE on the korean server gold players are going to be able to take games off you

There there is no registry, or programs that will help you. Programs like Fixmylag won't help at all. I can tell you though that your speeds are significantly better than alot of people playing on KR from NA. That's not to say you won't have a delay, but nothing significant. What level are you, as well? That's another thing to consider... Korea server becomes more beneficial at high level, but in different ways. You'll have to learn to stop a huge variety of allins at high level, which will make you a better player, but that's what a lot of the server is... Difference between normal NA allins and Korea though is they are much more refined. That's not to say you won't have macro games as well though. At low levels, it's relatively useless.
There will be some days the lag is unplayable and others it is completely fine... There are several variables that change constantly, so you have to get use to it.. It also seems to change during different times of the day, might just be me though.
But anyway, yes, you will be able to play on korea server well. With a delay however, that takes time to get to used to.

Having high internet speed from a university is not special ;p

I use comcast and my ping is about 230-250ms. Tried both from MA and TX.
From a high master view, this is quite unplayable. U cant really micro marine or banshee.

I am a Mid-Masters Terran. Again I am not trying to "fix" my speeds or anything.

Im playing from West Coast Canada and have 0 latency issues on KR server

200 ping should be fairly playable.. you only really notice it when doing really fast chain actions (spamming infested terrans, snipes, etc.).
The only bad part is that when connecting to somewhere so distant you could experience some lag spikes and/or disconects.

It is noticeable at first but its very very playable. My net is about half yours and I have gotten used to it completely.

Sorry for not being completely direct. What I'm trying to say is your internet is good, and you will be able to play well on most days, depending on several variables... There will be a delay, and noticeable lag on certain days... Since you are terran as well, it will be significantly more difficult to micro, as opposed to you playing zerg and protoss. I do believe the practice for a mid masters player is worth it though.

I bought a TW account about a month ago (im zerg) and i think its worth it just because the play style is noticablly different ^^ its only 42$ for a tw account some places but having said that with the latency i never beat terran zvt's just to aweful cross server but to each his own ^^.
