Where did you buy yours?

From a high master view, this is quite unplayable. U cant really micro marine or banshee. you can micro just fine, instead of waiting for your units to shoot to micro them back you will learn to just know the timing so you will move a specific time after issuing the attack and you can do it just the same, only thing that should ever be a problem with the latency are things that are purely reaction based, moving out of storms, blink micro, possibly banelings but the latency should never make you lose your marines unless you are too slow at issuing the commands.

My internet is horrible but I got used to playing on Kr after awhile. Just play alot of customs before you hit up ladder.
Terrans safe early on from most things so you should be fine. Playing toss with lag is a bitch.

I'm east coast (quebec) and latency to KR server is definitely fine. I'm close to high masters and have been hitting a few GM's so far. Early game forcefields are hard to hit but as the game goes on it gets easier. Sometimes (rarely) it lags non stop for the entire game then I have to take a break from KR ladder and come back later because it won't stop.

btw I don't see why you would play on KR server, only useful once ur high masters =P glhf

From central Canada is its fine. High diamond z on KR ladder with the ping, high diamond on Na. Doesn't seem to make much difference.

Here is my average speed test

To server in Seoul

Im low to mid masters in KR server and I hardly notice any lag at all. Maybe I will lag in the beginning 1 out of 10 games but its something minor and clears up after 2 seconds.
Hope this helps
I play protoss btw

150-200's pretty regular for me on every game I play...
If I'm lucky anyway.

Is there a channel on Kr for American/English speaking players? Or, even better, TL'ers?

Actually a lot of koreans are aggressive no matter what race you are from experience as zerg, and talking with protoss/terran friends who have played on it.
But I don't get latency at all on korea its awesome I used to but went away . Its like playing on NA for me ^_^.

Useful when your already high masters on Kr. Playing on Na is never ever useful.

I play on the Kr server from the west coast of the u.s. and I play with basically no lag at all.

Yeah I am on East Coast. Could I get your bnet for KR so I can test my latency in a custom?
|
Living in Vancouver, bought a Taiwan account and I play on that server with absolutely no lag at all. My internet has around a 15Mb download and a 0.5Mb upload. Since my upload is terrible when I tried streaming and playing on the server I got a pretty bad delay but just playing normally there's nothing at all.

I am not exactly sure where the server is for the American region (Maybe near Irvine?) but there is basically no difference in lag for me. I can play on KR and AM with the same amount of latency. I live in Seattle, and I get 179 ms ping to Seoul.

Ah I'm pretty close to you (well 8 hours away). It seems people in states idaho or near don't get latency which is really awesome as I know a couple others who live in the general area and have the same. Sucks blizzard can't make everyone have good latency lol.

I've been hearing a lot about specific times that there is high latency for NA players. What do you guys know about this? What times should I avoid?
|
My ping to the KR battle.net server (done through a "tracert" in cmd) is around 200-230ms which scared me. I play on KR a lot after buying a TW account and though there is a TINY bit of lag if you're looking for it, it's not noticeable to me at all at the Masters level. And definitely NEVER enough to make me lose units due to laggy control or anything like that.
You should be fine.

just teamliquid channel. It used to be a ghost channel before the merger, but now you can usually find 8-10 people in it, maybe half of whom speak english.
As for the latency, expect around 200-250ms depending where you play from. I play from korea to NA (california) and I have about 250ms. I play about half my games there, but there are some things I can't do at all because of it (ling/bling micro in zvz for example).
Unless your internet is awful, you shouldn't expect to have any spikes in lag or anything, only the actual latency from the distance (200-250ish from NA).
It's a trade-off for sure, but I think you'll find the quality of opponents makes it worth practicing there (if you are playing mid-high master level).
I think that if you aren't at least in master league though, there is no point to get a korean account except for the novelty factor. (just my opinion)

seattle is a bit closer to seoul than california... maybe even 30-70ms closer
also this is completely irrelevant but: + Show Spoiler +

200ms ping is more than OK. I doubt anyone can notice the difference below pro level. The real problem though, is that it's not a guaranteed 200ms, and you will probably have lag spikes.
